    Yes! I totally get this! I switched from Fuji to Sony for around a year and as much as the Sony A7iii was a great camera , I always felt like I was fighting the colour in post production (especially when I came to skin tones/ people). I do shoot a lot of low light (Urbex) and the A7iii certainly had some advantages but I just missed the colours and the whole Fuji experience. I’ve moved back to an X-T3 now and I can safely say I’ll be sticking with Fuji. I’m not disparaging Sony at all, it’s a great system, but I just find that Fuji makes my photographic life easier and more enjoyable. I’ve shot many cameras and systems and,for me, Fuji is the most complete package.

    I LOVE Fujifilm colors and the film simulations. I shoot Sony and like it. I shoot Fuji and LOVE it. Likely unloading Sony A7R iv soon. Full frame has its slight advantages but Fuji just brings so much joy and pleasure to use. The sound of the shutter nothing compares.

    Great video! I just got my first Fuji, the XT-3. I was researching, looking for a decent video camera for real estate and ran across a bunch of video on the Fuji cameras. I'm loving it for landscapes as well.

    Hard to stay away from the Fuji system right? I find as long as you preserve the highlights there is quite a large amount of latitude in the shadow recovery or when in doubt, bracket obviously.

    Hi Steven, I’ve been a Fuji man for the last 8 years or so. Along the way I’ve also owned both Canon and Nikon full frame cameras. Both of these offered incredible resolution, but, neither gave me the colours I’ve taken for granted with my Fuji cameras. I loved your honest approach to the new XT4 as well as your obvious excitement at getting the shots into Lightroom. They looked fabulous. Enjoy the new journey and I look forward to watching more of your work. Paul

    Great video Steven, and welcome back! I moved to Fujifilm a year ago from Canon, after having the opportunity to spend a week working with a certain Mr Hamill. I knew that the chance for me to upgrade/change system was coming up, and after seeing Alistair using the Fujifilm system first hand, there was no hesitation! One year in and no regrets!

Those early videos were what got me interested in the Fuji system, which I love! I was so sorry when you switched to Sony but I understood why. Hi Steven, I have one question. The xt4 is a cropped sensor camera and as far as I know you are selling prints. Based on the ideas that have been perpetuated on the internet that you cannot print big on a cropped sensor, how will you go about this? What is the biggest size you have printed so far with the xt4? Have things started to change or have we been brainwashed to think wrongly all along? Just an honest question. 😀

    • @johnpouw3352
      @johnpouw3352 4 года назад +1

      Hey Marieta, I think you will find you can print large prints just fine off a crop sensor camera, especially one with a 26mp sensor. It is a bit of a myth really, a full frame has some other advantages like having a slightly better dynamic range, different depth of field abilities etc because of the larger sensor area but print size generally is not one of them. :) My 2c

    • @marieta.s
      @marieta.s 4 года назад

      John Pouw thank you for your reply. I actually thought about that too and occasionally I have printed up to A3 size with my cropped sensor camera but never bigger than that. However, everybody on the internet still perpetuate this “myth” and I wanted to hear someone else’s opinion on the issue. 😀

    • @marieta.s
      @marieta.s 3 года назад

      @SF6 yeah I’ve done prints up to A3. I just don’t know how much bigger I can push it before having to enlarge with programs such as gigapixel etc.

  • @Luigi13

    But Steven, the medium format Fujifilm that I saw you shooting in another video isn't it more appropriate for getting detailed landscape images? I also have the Fujifilm XT3 and I love the camera but the resolution from the APC sensor isn't in par with medium format or full frame. Yes, the details for closer shooting is fine but not for larger vistas or larger views. To get more from afar I would have to take several frames and stitch them to have more detail. How is your experience?

I have never shot with Fuji, but love their look and capabilities. Plus their firmware is always being upgraded which i a big plus in my book. @@nicostrappazon I don't use photoshop, but a quick google search looks like that is an option, round-trip editing. Depending on what you're doing, maybe you don't need it anymore :) Na not for real, but Capture One does A LOT. I specifically like the color options, being able to add layers and every tool is available on every layer, makes the perfect adjustment possible. Also, having a three way color wheel on top of the regular HSL sliders is awesom. Tones for days. And the same color wheel available on every layer if you want. I love it.

      @@trentschlamp good to know! lightroom just put in primaries wheels and it is probably one of my favorite additions they have made, finnaly some innovation haha. Hi Steven, great video. I think we all know that the most important aspect of any camera we use is the enjoyment we get out of using it, be that the ergonomics, colours, tactility, anything. Although I take your point on some being better suited for some work requirements. I went from Canon to Fuji and then Nikon (Z6) and will say I am pretty happy. I loved the X-T3 but am also enjoying the full frame of the Z6 and the colours are very useable on it, something I always liked on the Fuji as well. I still have an X30 simply for street and so I can still use the film simulations which are awesome. Keep it up, enjoying the content. John Pouw NZ

    I have the same experience! I shot Pentax ff and Fuji apsc. Then I thought a Sony a7iii would be the best of both worlds. Loved the portability, battery, lens selection, af and to a certain degree the sharpness from the Sony. But as with you, I felt I had good light and the photos still was a bit ... blaaah. So I sold the Sony A7iii with some great lenses and got a Canon R5 to go as my main camera next to my Fuji. Since I won't get that much for my K-1 compared to the photos it delivers, I'm keeping it. The IQ is maybe the best out of them all, but the size and AF is a bit blaaah. Love Fuji though, If they made a ff i wouldnt use anything else. As you say, the colors are the best.

    Interesting. I hear what you say about the joy of using the Fuji cameras and their colours, but I changed from Fuji (X-T2 W/ 10-24, 50-140, 23 f1.4, 35 f2, 56) to the Nikon Z7 (W/ 14-30 & 24-70 f2.8) this year. My reason for changing was that I wanted higher resolution (not an option with Fuji unless I had an X system and a GFX system), but more importantly corner to corner sharpness. Maybe I had a bad copy of the 10-24 but it would (quite often) give me one corner slightly out of focus, as if the lens was de-centered. Even after repair by Fuji it still did the same thing. I tried it with OIS on and off, but my theory was that the lens elements weren’t returning to a neutral position with OIS off. Unfortunately I found this unacceptable. I also had to have my 50-140 fixed under warranty for a similar issue, but they did fix that one. I must say that I’m very happy with the Z7 & 14-30 and don’t regret making the change. I’ve seen a lot of great photos taken with the X-T’s and 10-24, so maybe mine was just a bad copy. I’m not knocking Fuji as I loved using them and I hope your works out for you. Looking forward to seeing some great photos.

    13:33 - haha, must be odd to walk in a beautiful landscape to find a guy who is alone, talking to his camera. Other than that, everything that's being said for colour I totally can relate to. I had Sony for a while and always - from day one - struggled with color. I tried 3 different converters, it's just so different, only Canon can come a bit closer to Fuji but the RF system is expensive...

    First of, welcome back, once Fuji is in the blood you will always return 😁
    The worms effect is still an issue, lot less these days. LR has never been the best at handling RAF files.
    Are you still shooting Sony for weddings?
    What other lenses did you Get? If you're looking for some primes then Viltrox make some great lenses, real bang for your buck, the new 56mm is sweet and less than 300 quid.

      Thanks Mark. Yeah I’ve been using Capture One for some of the other stuff so will probably keep using it for the Fuji files now too. I’ve heard some great reports on the Viltrox stuff.

      The "worm effect" is non existent if you know how to process the RAF files correctly, for one knock the default sharpening down to 0, Adobe have it set to 40 which is far to high for XTrans files. That's just one step, also use sharpening mask heavier than you would with other RAW files

      I have actually switched back to film. Nikon, Canon, Sony, Olympus and even Fuji, all are or have been in my arsenal. All are more or less the same and do the same job. I decided that I wanted to be in charge and not the algorithms or the processor made in Japan or China.

    Fuji files are always recognizable when processed. ALWAYS RECOGNIZABLE IN A BAD WAY.
