- This is a quick video I made to help people with their brake light problem this video will work for any car the has combined brake light and signal light. This example is on a Ford Econoline but should be the same for any car. My problem was that my lower two not work sometimes, but my third brake would always work fine. This is how I solved the problem.
I had a problem with my crown vic when I installed new rear light (led), the brake light would always turn on when I turned the lights on, well low and behold it was as short in the new connectors, the wires were so close together that the silicone used to separate the opposing wires within the connector was installed improper caused the two wires to make contact, simple pushed the silicone between the two and problem solved, hopefully this post will help others as it had nothing to do with brake switches or bumpers,,,,,,
this video saved me a lot of headache on my 2000 ford ranger. thank you! never would of looked here.
Dude You're A Genius! My third brake light was working but the lower two were not working. loose wire in the steering column and Problem Solved! thanks Brotha!
Your welcome glad that I could have helped.
How do I fix this????
04 ford interceptor with same exact issue.Spent a lot of time researching, like you said "not many videos" on this. Your video is by far the best one I've seen on this type of brake light problem. I thought it might of been a short in the wiring due to the cutting of all the wires that were spliced in for all the police mods that were removed before being sold to me. Glad it wasn't that...
Shaun Piatt Thank You for the kind words. I thought it was a short at first too, our van is a conversion van and there is a lot of non-OEM wiring.
Thank you and thank you again! Toyota RAV4 gave a hell and once I saw your video I Dang! You save me hours of testing.
Great thinking !!!
CrazyMotorMaster- Thanks for the video. I had replaced my turn signal the other day, it was worn out, and a few days latter my wife told me my brake lights were not working down low but we're working up top. I had found it perplexing since both had gone out at once. I found your video online and when you pointed to the turn indicator switch I new that was where the problem was and when I took off the outer housing I also found a loose tag. I got a mirror and put in the the open hole and presto the lower two back brake lights were working again.ThanksJohn
+John Jordan You are welcome John, glad I could help steer you in the right direction (pun intended).
Thanks guy..... You saved me some time and money....my break light switch connect was loose on the floor board..
Your welcome glad I could help point you in the right direction.
Great video... Lots of ideas for my 02 benz..... And props on having a shaggin wagon ;)
Thank you for this video CMM, brake lights were not working out of my trailer plug. After many hours and tests on my 99 Ford Ranger I looked into this solution and sure enough the wire was out of it's plug. I plugged it in and everything is back on.
Same issues solved tysm🎉
thanks you got my on the right way with my 98 blazer. i had a faulty hazard switch. new switch or nearly new but i had to mend it a little to get the lower brake lights working
My sons 1500 had same. On his it Turned out it was a weak ground connection at Battery that when the first issue as 1 bulb blew it triggered the computer and when computer tried to regain enough ground connection it could not.. wire inside connector had corroded ovr years.. Installed new connectors and all is good..
You were very smart to figure that out. Good work.
on my 1998 toyota tacoma when i press the brake pedal only the cab light turns on and when i turn on my running lights the left brake light and the cab light turns on but not the right brake light. and also when i turn the right turn signal on with the running lights off, the reverse light on the left taillight flashes dim too.
I have this issue with my audi. When I bought the car the main brake light never worked but third brake light and bumper lights worked. Then one magical night I noticed the main brake lights were on. Shocking! That was the first and last time they worked though 😂not i need to check my steering column for loose broken wires
Did u fix it?
@@CrazyMotorMaster it turns out that audi issued a recall for the problem which they stated the BCM needed to be updated.
Hey dude I'm just telling you I won't so you and I'm enjoying your video because my Chevy Express 1500 year 2000 van brake lights are not working except for the one in the window is working but thanks that's what I'm looking for a solution to Keep On Keepin On
Sprayed a little WD40 on the Monte Carlo turn signal switch, thanks!
Thank you for taking this video. Hope this is my issue, but thanks either way.
@ CrazyMotorMaster I have a ford Econoline E150 van i have bought turn signal light bulbs and break light bulbs in had them installed and didn't fix my break light from not working and I also had my fuses all check out and all the fuses checked out to be good fuses! What can be making me not having any break light work ir my turn signal light isn't working on my van either please someone help me out with some idea what it might be causing the break light and turn signal not be working!
Good information... Thanks!
Great shot from your phone
02 silveradodo 1500HD, new brake switch, power to both tail ends and trailer hitch. still no brake lights. led lights. put new conectors and new lights. still no break lights. please help
Thanks for the video - My 1997 nissan pickup has this issue, please help - I have only 2 lower brake lights which work and function fine when my headlights are NOT ON, but the moment I turn Headlights on - I do not have Break Light working - so it is very dangerous at night because I have headlights on and i am driving without break lights - till i have fixed it I have stopped driving this truck at night and I make sure I comeback home before it gets dark out there - please comment - I also want to add that my headlight switch is integrated with the turn signal in the same switch under steering on the left - thanks
hello, i have dodge caravan 2001, hazard works, turn signals work, third stop light works , fuses all good , BUT NO BRAKE LIGHTS on lower stop light. what i need to fix ?? thanks
kajus001 I would try checking the grounds or the brake light switch. If that doesn't work check the turn signal switch.
Im working on a 1996 crown Vic police interceptor. Problem I’m having is that the brake lights (and hazards I might add) are not turning on when engaged. The third light will come on, but not the other 2. Hazards will not turn on in rear either but they do come on in the front. Blinkers work fine. I’ve tried messing with the hazard switch, replaced the brake switch at the pedal, and checked bulbs/fuses. Something to note (unsure if relevant) is that the hazard “clicking” when engaged is faster than the blinker (unsure if that is normal) but it’s almost as fast as when it’s telling you the bulbs are bad. I have not tested the lighting control module because the blinkers are fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
So if your 3rd brake light is working and the other 2 are not the brake switch is not the problem is that correct?
Hi , my driver brake light isn’t working and when I press the brake down enough while having my passenger turn signal on it start to blink very fast and doesn’t blink in the back , could a faulty brake switch or turn signal switch fix both of these problems ??
Did you figure out the problem? I’m having same issue.
@@DannyGrc yes it ended up being a burnt out or faulty rear passenger tail light bulb. I would try changing that before attempting to change anything else or doing what is shown in the video. It’s the cheapest option to start with and requires the least amount of work. If your vehicle has multiple rear or front bulbs per side turn on your hazards and see which bulbs are not flashing wether it be front or back and replace that bulb and it should be good afterwards. The reason vehicles do this is to tell you a bulb is out and it’s time to change it.
I changed this part but my brake lights are still not working. The bottom 2 don't work but the third does. Any solutions
What was your car's problem?
had one brake light out, went to the dealer for an ignition switch repair (recalled part). they tell me both are now out. I replaced both bulbs, brake switch, and turn signal switch, in addition to checking fuse. top brake light works. hazards and turn signals work, which use the same bulb. 2004 Honda Element. suggestions?
would this be the same issue on my 2004 nissan murano, the third light comes when the brake is pressed, the light come when the turn signal is on and with the emergency light on?
Does this work the same for Jeeps? I have a Grand Cherokee and the 2 lower don't work; upper light works.
gunner74 I believe that particular jeep has a separate lamp for the turn signal so it shouldn't really have an interrupter in it I would recommend checking the fuses first then the brake light switch itself.
2008 Honda civic lower tail lights not working just the one in the back window checked fuses, bulbs,
Glenn Comeau do they turn on when you turn on your headlights?
On my camping trailer, one tail light ok, the other lights up with headlights on but does not work for brakes or blinker. I have replaced the bulb. Don't know what to try next
I would check the wiring itself, sounds like some kind of bad connection. I would love to hear how it works out.
turns out my problem was not the camper at all but a short in the wiring to the hitch that it was plugged into
I am happy that you found the problem.
Thanks, crazymotormaster!!!
Please help ! I just bought new led tail lights for my 2000 Silverado and the reverse , turn and 3rd brake light works , the brake lights don't work/I gage at all ... They do turn on dim when I turn my running lights but when the brake is applied there is absolutely no brake light , please help , Iv been reading forums for the past 5 hours !!
Ruh I have been having the same problem and can’t figure it out. I’ve bought new bulbs, replaced brake switch, checked all the fuses, even cleaned all the ground points under the truck, still can’t get them to work at all
@@Trucks-kt9gt what did you end up doing? I have an 09 burb and im trying to figure it out too
What did you end up doing? Have an 09 burb and cant figure out what the prob is
I have a 2004 mini cooper, and my third brake light will not go off. Does anyone know how to fix it, aside from going to the dealership, or just removing it?
Selina Meier do you lower 2 work fine, if so it might be a short in a wire somewhere.
i have a 99 ford explorer xls all three brake lights stopped working im hoping that this is the same fix so i wont need to spend unnecessary money
Sounds like it might be brake light switch, or a fuse, good luck.
I found out that it was the switch
my right turn signal on a 07 Ford Ranger is not working also brake light and the traveling light when turn on turn signal flashes real fast on the front can anyone help
Thomas Martin sound like it might just be a burn out bulb element is replaceable but should be fine
My 98 chevy cavalier break, tail, and turn signals don't work. Think it's a plug or the multifunctional switch
jahviair sounds like you need some blinker fluid
i have a nissan march 2012 and iam having many electrical problems , right now fog light works and headlight works, front wiper but the electrical lock system not working and turn signal not working , and back wiper not working , any idea what do i have to change ? btw turn isgnal is flashing rapidly but no signal is on from the bulb. this means its a problem of the whole electrical system ? not only replacing fuse or relay or bulb will fix it?
We do not have this car in my market so I am not familiar with it but it sounds like one of the computers, or a loose connector, or even a bad ground maybe the cuprite. I really do not know you may have to take it to a dealer.
Would you recommend this if it's just one of my break lights out? Also it only doesn't work when I turn my lights on. Thanks for your time in advance
It sounds like you might have a bad ground somewhere, check for a loose or corroded ground wire. Good Luck I would love o know how it turns out.
It's called a multi function switch
wish you'd have showed how to take the screws out
You unscrew them.
^ lmao
Hi when I turn my lights on my fuse blows instantly I have brake lights but not running lights in the back any help is good
wxynz12able sounds like you have a wiring short somewhere it could be anywhere in the circuit.
CrazyMotorMaster where do I start looking
im having this prob now on my mitsubishi lancer
It should be your brake light switch or brake light fuse.
would this work on my ford ranger 2003??please answer ASAP it's a emergency
MEX BOT if it has a red turn signals these trouble shoots may give you a solution.
CrazyMotorMaster ok thanks alot but only my brake lights don't turn on now
MEX BOT all three or just the lower two?
Just the lower two
MEX BOT ya just do what I do in the video check the turn signal switch interrupter
hi HV. 1994 FORD MONTAGO MOTOR HOME CANT FIND FLASHER OR RELAY IF U NO WOULD APP. LETTING ME NO
I am not too familiar with that particular vehicle but there are three possible locations it could be.
1. under the dash,
2. under the hood in the fuse panel
3. or it could be located in the switch itself.
I had a huge problem you are going to hear from my solicitor (lawyer) about this my truck got wrecked because I fixed what you said to fix
Maybe if you talk a lot louder and keeping your video recording steady and not letting it move all over the place.
Can't here nor understand - bad audio

Jack Sprat recheck the fuse if that hasn't blown again then you might have a grounding issue check to see if you have any lose wires in the sockets.
