I’m a 30 year Post Office window clerk veteran here and yes I’m still working. Kevin is correct, Priority Mail is cheaper in some cases. If you doubt that, I encourage you to seek employment with us and see for yourself. I’m a part time reseller and personally ship out 1000 items a year through the Post Office so I believe I’m an expert at this subject. Anyone who argues this point need to check into the facts. Thanks Kevin!
Usually Flat Rate Boxes are cheaper, for heavy items. When you ship Priority Mail, in the same state, or nearby states, it can also be cheaper, or only slightly more. I had 34 years for USPS. I retired last year. 😊
Pirate ship Box in a Bag!
Thank You For Your Service 🙌🏽🥰
I sold a clock recently and was no nervous I packed it with an old towel in addition to a ton of cardboard, bubble wrap, you name it. I wrote to the buyer and apologized in advance and received very nice feedback. He also asked me if I needed my towel back! Whew!
Thank you, Kevin, I love all of Turner's jokes & pass them on to my granddaughter!
Yes, some are cheaper for priority mail, you just have to look :) Totally agree with you
🥰🥰Aww, that black kitty is my favorite!🥰🥰
I constantly upgrade buyers shipping to Priority cause it is a few dollars cheap on some cases. Always good to double check if you can save a buck or get it to them faster. ✌🏼💚🙏🏻
I'm 100% with James. I think there's throttling going on. I'll have excellent weekend sales, views, favorites that I can send offers on, etc. But at some point, it seems to hit a wall even with GOOD new listings up. Once packed, or showing scanned at PO, things improve a little. HOWEVER, as soon as a few items I've shipped start showing delivered, suddenly I start getting views, offers, and favorites again! It's been happening in that pattern for 6-7 weeks now...
And from a business perspective, eBay wants to sell as much as they can. But also from a business perspective, they want to limit their risk. If they have too many orders (or too much value) pending completion, an unscrupulous buyer could scam eBay. Maybe it's the age of the account, I've only really been selling on eBay two to three years and have tried to ramp things up this year more than others. But it seems too consistent to be coincidence...
I had a huge sale day (for me) last week and the next day it was like someone turned the lights off. Sold one item that night for 10 dollars after a 300+ dollar day the day before.
eBay sellers have been wondering about throttling for 10 years or more.
This is what has been the pattern for my Ebay since August. It has become an inside joke with my husband and I. I figured it was because I only sell part-time.
They throttle me at about $500 /wk. I take payouts on Tuesdays. Sometimes I'll get sales during the week but once I get around $500 it stops and I won't get sales over the weekend. Sometimes the week will be slow then Sunday, Boom! Sales! It always comes out to around a $500 weekly payout.
I would have canceled that clock sale. People like that cause problems.
People like what? Lol some people need to be told how to pack items. - better safe than sorry from their point of view. Some people ship so horribly they shouldn't even be allowed to sell on eBay.
I absolutely believe eBay has total control over sales and where the sales are sent to. I'm not upset by it but I am also not an idiot. I have watched it for years how my own sales are "throttled" to mine and other stores.
Etsy does this and they tell us point blank. If you have received a bunch of orders, Etsy will stop sending you traffic until you ship. This was because of the pandemic and all the mask makers were getting hundreds of orders and they could not fill them. Etsy will also put your shop on vacation mode until you catch up. The difference is these items had to be handmade and then shipped. I could see eBay doing this to a newer shop, a seller who has a bad track record of shipping on time or a shop that has double or triple the sales they normally have.
Went to mail a robe today that weighed just under a pound. It was going from Indiana to remote N. Dakota. It was almost 11.00 for Ground Advantage. 7.20 for Priority Flat rate.
I'm almost never seeing Priority rates cheaper than Ground Advantage, but I'm all the way East in NY and the majority of my buyers seem to be in the Midwest or West. I had one item go to PA recently, and I upgraded to Priority for a few cents cheaper. I have been upgrading packages to Priority the past week or so to move them a little faster for the Holidays, but in most cases it costs me an extra 20 cents to $1 to do so, not less. I use mostly recycled boxes, so there's not really any savings there...
I always check the difference in cost between Ground Advantage and Priority. Has a bunch to do with where it's going. My sales picked up recently AFTER I complained to MANY at Ebay about the slow sales, and the way their glitches mess with my listings. Coincidence? I think not! We also have to remember.....it's Christmas shopping season! I see January, like usual, as REALLY slow.
Awesome video as always!
I'm guessing your clock guy has had stuff packed poorly and arrived damaged before.
I had a buyer buy a fragile action figure from me and he said the last guy he bought it off packed it poorly and it arrived broken. So I made an extra effort to double box it. Buyer was super happy.
I get requests like that every so often - I am happy to reassure them that I will take extra care to keep it from getting damaged.
Ebay definitely ARRANGES THINGS !! Between 8am and 2pm exactly today I sold 22 items!! It is now almost 7pm and I have not sold a THING SINCE 2pm !! VERY STRANGE !!
yup, 29 sales yesterday,....3 in the last 13 hours today
I actually shipped something pretty sizable yesterday. 16x12x8 box. Going from MA to OH. It was almost $2.00 cheaper to ship Priority instead of Ground. So I made a couple extra bucks on the shipping and the customer is going to get the package sooner. Win win :)
5:55 minutes in... I send MANY items Priority Mail because it is CHEAPER than G.A. or equivalent to G.A., so I will choose Priority Mail 97% of the time in these cases. I have seen a substantial increase in "outside of eBay" business coming in this quarter and my internal sales are slower by 12%. If I didn't see the reports I wouldn't have known - other than many buyers are "new" buyers without feedback - and I am finding a higher percentage of those new buyers QUICKLY leaving great feedback on their purchases with us.
I love the Fragile Rock tshirt
I'm not one to speculate about algorithms, but something interesting happened to me this last week worth noting. A Nintendo Wii that I've had listed at a low price point for months just wasn't selling, even during this hot time for Wiis on eBay. Then I saw that eBay was reporting zero views on the listing (!). I did a search myself and sorted by price, but mine didn't show up in the results. Then I noticed a message that said eBay had "streamlined" search results for a better experience. Don't know why mine didn't make the cut, but I delisted and relisted (not a regular practice for me) and it sold the next day.
I just received my denver Auburn Tigers damn it doll you showed pulling in this video as I am watching it lol! It’s awesome and a gift for my Sis 😁 Thanks so much 🙏
Several 2023 comments. We have tried Promoted listings most of 2023 and we are no longer promotion minded. Sometime in October my sales started falling. Currently they are down 35%. We sell a lot of items across the board as a family. So the throttling described we can sort of see. Our big sale days are Fridays & Sundays evenings. The month of July we tried the eBay Promotions anywhere from 5% to 12%. It was not a good idea for us and we saw very little difference. Then for a 3 month run we did 2.5% across the board. Not helpful overall. We do ship Ground normally, if Priority is cheaper then we ship Priority. We do all we can to make the buyer happy. After the New Year we hope to make some changes and also try other sites. Thank you for all the advice and opinions. Blessings to you all.
I still use Priority a lot, and I use UPS a lot more than I used to.
I think that it depends on where you live. If you are in the midwest the Ground Advantage is probably still cheaper in most cases. I'm finding that it's EVEN cheaper on Pirate Ship for over a pound packages.
I have found most packages that are going somewhat close that are in the 1-5 lb range will be cheaper on Pirate ship and sometimes the 13-16 oz ones will be cheaper as well. I have been checking nearly every package for the last month and probably saved a few hundred dollars through Pirate Ship.
Yes, priority is cheaper in many cases. People must not be weighing their items. Many are rounding up the ground advantage to 1 pound and that’s also not right. Below a pound works the same way first class did and priority works the same that it always did with cost increments.
At least that prescriptive buyer didn't tell you how to take it to the post office 🤣
If in the same postal zone, yep, priority is often cheaper. It's funny how some people refuse to listen, isn't it? I experience the "throttling quite often and have for many years now. I have been unable to find my items when searching. I called ebay and they couldn't find them either, and then another ebay rep told me once that they don't "throttle" but they control our visibility so sellers don't get overwhelmed. This was after I had been selling over a dozen years and said there was no reason for this. She said it's just what ebay does. This was years ago when you could call and get a US rep.
Ebay definitely hides listings! Whenever you refine your search from best match to lowest price there will be less results. Where did all of the other listings go? Makes no sense
I noticed that too!
There Are Definitely Items That Ship Priority Cheaper Than Ground 😉
Yes priority is cheaper on certain things, with the holidays I’ve been upgrading every order to priority mail even though I have ground advantage as the default shipping, and I’ve noticed maybe a quarter of the items were cheaper with priority.
Not only is Priority cheaper than Ground Advantage if you are shipping something over a pound to closer regions, you then save money by using USPS shipping materials rather than your own.
I shipped a package yesterday weighing 1.5 lb to an address within my state. Priority was almost $2 more.
That said, I have seen cheaper priority rates before, but it was for packages going to the west coast. I'm on the east coast.
I can't see to well but now I know that the action figure on top is not ric flair. It's Hulk Hogan! Even better!
Had 4 heated blanket power plugs listed for months. Yesterday and today I sold out to 4 different buyers. Seems like this time I benefited from the throttling. I do believe it because I see it happening. Lol
I have been selling on Ebay Since 1997 off and on I have been fulltime since 2010 I honestly think people look too much into all these ebay "conspiracy Theories", I know someone that every morning does all these ritual things with their store on ebay. I don't know I just list and sell, our store has been up and down like a roller coaster One day will be 1800 and the next will be 600 it is crazy but just keep going and you will be fine!
If you don't buy into the theories you need to go start watching James at My Boring Reseller Life as he provides his analytics on a regular basis, the dude has like 50,000 listings and has been a reseller for over 20 years and can tell you when ebay is "turned off" and back on again!
eBay has been weird lately, but I have no idea what is causing it. It could be the back end implementations as you stated, but that is a very bad practice to leave all your sellers in the dark about possible slow downs.
Just packaged, 2 pounds shipping from zip code 60046 to 66215 and usps ground is $7.35 and usps priority is $7.20 which also comes with a free box. It is not always this way but also not rare :-)
In some cases for me ground has been cheaper then media mail and you get insurance on ground
Yes, you are correct, Priority is cheaper in some cases.
Priority is always more expensive than ground for me. Idk I live in fl and cannot beat ground 99% of the time.
I absolutely sell items where the Priority Mail is cheaper the Ground Advantage, but I always list it as Ground Advantage and will upgrade to Priority is cheaper.
Same here, up and down sales, awesome then nothing, repeat
I feel throttled! Lol. I was selling g 1-2 a day like clockwork. All of the sudden after a busy weekend.....6 day straight no sales. Same type of stuff? Top rated seller etc. Not sure what is up. Thought it was weird
Well, I have seen a surge in my sale to where I have just about more sales every day so it may be considered throttling not sure. I have been shipping a lot and I love it. I have one day shipping on all my items on Ebay and 3-day shipping on Mercari but I get them all out with no hassles. I try not to hold any packages if possible. Top things going out are DVDs, Blu-rays, and games for me along with shoes have been going out very quickly.
As I stated I am a new viewer & was so excited to hear you had other utube platforms !!!! I now subscribed to those. Merry Christmas to your family.
I absolutely find that on occasion when I check Priority Mail rate, it's actually a little cheaper! I always check anyway, because I already get that shipping discount, so if I can ship Priority for just a little more, it's nice for the buyer, AND I get to use the free shipping box! Once Ground Advantage came into play, I really use that most of the time.
I'd love to see (or be referred to) a video about how to file a claim if you do have a Priority item arrive broken. I asked at the post office and they pretty much said, "You have to do it online" with no other guidance, and I just haven't been able to find out how to really file a claim. So I've always just refunded and took the hit.
I have been finding pirate ship has been cheaper on ground advantage for the 1-5 lb packages that are going closer. Many times its $1-2 cheaper. The last month I have been comparing shipping on both for cheapest shipping even the 13-16oz packages can be cheaper on pirate ship too.
I hate when people tell you how to package things like i havent been doing this for 10 years.....
i have always supposed that ebay has to have some way of letting all of the milliions of sellers sell.
I look at GA vs Priority on EVERY order over 1lb. It's amazing how often I get cheaper on Priority. Most of Texas to Florida up to most of TN and the Carolinas because I'm in MS.
Agree with the "a few months ago", they were up and down and it was all ebay. Nov Dec seems to have calmed.
I agree that keeping your ship items, offers, etc empty does help traffic, sales, etc. At least for the newer/smaller sellers.
I've sold a few of my big golf cover buy. I made all my money back off a set of 3 Calloway.
#1977BestYearEver #MyGoToTape #EbayGiftCardForChristmas #myresellergenie
I got I new job with 100 people under me, I cut the grass at a cemetery
If I list, I get buyers. I just ended about 10 items and did the "sell similar" I'll let you know how that turned out. I did notice some years ago my sales only went to a few states. Don't have a clue why. Lastly 90% of my orders come in at night past 8:00pm Another eBay mystery.
yes, depending on where the item is going, priority mail is cheaper under a certain weight. Many of my sales, priority shipping cost 7.20 and ground advantage cost 8.35 for the same shipment.
Dear ChatGPT, how do you pack a clock properly?😅
So annoying when buyers instruct me how to ship items... been selling/shipping for 30 years thank you
I know exactly what you mean! Now I will ask sellers to wrap up marbles where they don't get all banged up during shipping. But other than that, I let them do it however they see fit! But I sale online as well & I've been instructed on how to ship a few times... But if they'd check my feedback, they'd see I take care of the products I sell and I ship them wrapped up really nice and secure.
Are you in any Facebook ebay groups? I can't blame buyers for making sure the seller knows what's expected. There are a ton of horror stories about how people ship their items. Buyers don't know you personally, so they are just doing what they can to assure their item arrives as it should.
That's what happens when eBay sellers ship things in cereal boxes.
@@AllieJL several... I also sell on mercari & Amazon as well as Ebay
@tamichaffee932 I'm saying because in the ebay groups they post what people actually ship products in. It's crazy, which is why I don't fault buyers for asking to have their items shipped a certain way.
I was never one to think ebay is throttling stores but november was my best month ever and now december has come to a screeching hault. I did slow down on listing a little but not that much. I also did have a few items removed for policy violations so its got me wondering if im being punished.
I was never a Redskins fan, but never should have changed the logo.
I sold on Ebay from 1997-2012; 35000+ feedback. Throttling was a huge topic of conversation even back to 2010. My experience with it would be:
6 hours with no sales, 7 sales within 15 minutes scattered all over the country.
5 hours with no sales, 8 sales within 15 minutes scattered all over the country.
etc...
It wasn't constant. Sometimes sales were throttled, sometimes they weren't.
Anyway, that's my perspective from 11+ years ago.
I dont know about throttleling but i think there is some kind of cycle or rotation going on.
I have a lot of items that are cheaper to send priority mail vs ground advantage. Also sometimes have packages that ground advantage is cheaper than media Mail.
I found an issue last night. When first class mail became USPS ground advantage, I changed All my current listings, to reflect ground advantage shipping. 99% of those listings (that were left) somehow got switched back to First Class Mail! I kept thinking why are these things not selling? Now I know why. eBay glitch changed my shipping back to 1st class, for most of my listings, INCLUDING About 60% of my new listings all the way up to last week. It's a headache. Hopefully I have fixed (most of) the problem and with any luck my staile sales will pick up. Just a heads up. Maybe y'all should check your listings too.
Iits just like wearing white shoes. If you care they get dirty. If you dont care. They stay clean. Why I dont care
I had 29 sales on ebay yesterday,....today 7,...only 3 sales since 10:30AM(now 10:50PM), -I do same day shipping. Socialism. eBay throttling me because apparently I made too much already this week.
That's funny. I was packing up an order and was just checking to see what was cheaper... Ground advantage or Priority. Priority was $1 cheaper. :) I always check. GA isn't always the cheapest.
Well when you print the shipping label, it'll show the buyer that a shipping label has been created, but that USPS is waiting on the item. So until someone from the post office actually scans the item, then it'll show up as label created but hasn't shipped yet.... So if you ship within 24 hours of a cleared payment, then the pkg has to be at the post office within that 24 hour window. Or you'll take a chance of loosing top rated seller if you have too many late shipments....
I think as soon as the label is printed it counts as "shipped", not so much when the PO scans it in but i could be wrong.
I don't mind at all when I get packing instructions in the message. I would already have done all of that, but I know that they are writing that because another seller didn't. I'm hoping that I restore their faith in ebay sellers.
100% I am using less Priority shipping, however there are instances where Priority is less expensive than Ground Advantage. And you also need to think about the cost of the box you might be using to ship when deciding between the two.
Does Ground Advantage give free insurance like Priority?
@@buyatreasure yes, $100. Good luck collecting from USPS.
Yeah USPS doesn't pay the insurance often anymore .
The Better you serve your buyers the Better Ebay will serve you!?
Absolutely check before shipping, sometimes priority is less and you can use their box, even if it’s slightly more I will still go priority and save the cost of a brown box.
Priority shipping being cheaper is definately based on location. I am in a sweet spot i guess.. I am central, so with the cost of boxes these days I have shipped 80% more priority. Using the usps free boxes has absolutely been cheaper on tons of orders. For most of the middle of the country Pirate Ship rates seem to be within 50 cents priority vs ground advantage. Absolutely I will ship priority (and I actually charge customers for ground ONLY 100%)
There plenty of times that priority is cheaper. It is usually when it is staying within your zone. Once you get out of your zone ground advantage is cheapest.
When list allot, I sell allot.
Hi Kevin long time watcher of your channel and I can say without a doubt eBay does throttle you I have seen too many times in a row over this last year that as soon as I start printing the labels new sales start to come in immediately as soon as it is printed. And the same thing applies when I'm getting items scanned at the post office my phone literally starts chinging as they are scanning the packages. It's not a fluke it consistently happens for me that's why I try to run to a computer to print the labels as soon as possible to keep the flow of sales going. Because if you hesitate or sit on your hands you're going to lose your place in line
MAJOR EBAY ISSUE: Twice this week, I've had Buyers make me Offers. When I hit, ACCEPT OFFER, it does not recognize it, it cancels the Offer out. I've lost 2 sales already. Any other Sellers experiencing this problem?
Gotta love the people that priced one of those Carolina bags super high to test the market and set the price around there. The pioneers of eBay 😂.
I constantly do that, why give it away when you know they are worth more and sell higher...
@@littleluluscraps if I pay $1 for something and the next similar comp is $50 but a different team I’m pricing it at $50. I’m not pricing it 10 times higher because I’ve done that hundreds of times and never sold one item that way unfortunately.
@@picklikeapro6952 You do what works for you! I have made lots more $ with strategic and extensive research and pricing. Why work harder if you can work smarter or in the ebay reselling business price smarter...
Kevin do u promote? If u do what percent?? Merry Christmas!!!
Good god I’m usually pretty tactful but I would say look at my feedback this ain’t my first rodeo.
How do you keep your Final Value fees in check?
I’m no conspiracy theorist but about an hour a day brings all my watchers and in that hour I get around 10-15 watchers then none for the rest of the day. If that’s not throttling happening then we’re in the matrix. 😂
That NC bag is awesome!
I do almost all priority shipping, people really appreciate fast shipping. Its worth paying a 1 or 2 extra for happy customers.
I agree that ppl appreciate faster shipping but I'm on the east coast and many times it can be an 8-10+ dollar difference when things are going to West coast.
@@anthonyc7900 Have you tried flat rate? I guess it depends on what you're selling. What I do sometimes is offer both, that way the buyer can choose whats better for them.
I’m regularly active. Yet eBay does seem to throttle me after selling an item that’s a lot more expensive than the vast majority of sales.
The person about wrapping up the clock may just want to make sure that they get it, just as it is. It is something that they really want. Not everyone is going to be a problem. They may have had things shipped and broken or damaged in shipping. They may not know how much effort you will put into the packaging. Good luck, I hope they are an honest person who just wants their precious item.
they also spent good money on it so its within their right as a buyer to ask for extra attention to shipping, and I believe Kevin always does that no matter what the item is
People always ask me to wrap well. I have never lost an item due to poor wrapping/shipping in 26 years on eBay! I used to ship crystal..and China..got it down to a fine art!
eBay is most definitely throttling sales and it has become more obvious as of lately. Sales are fine then you get extended periods of time with nothing, no matter what you do, nothing will sell. The question is why are they doing this? In the past you would have consistent sales but not anymore. Why can't they go back to that and share the wealth with everyone like they used to? Why make it so difficult for sellers without any transparency about what is going on?
Yes! Priority mail is sometimes cheaper than ground advantage!, for me it's usually stuff over a pound, and to the states around us, but sometimes it's even to the east coast, but never Texas, California or Oregon. So cheaper shipping, free box, that's a win baby!
I think eBay makes the stupid decision, whenever one is to be made. I don't think they're bright enough to figure out throttling, to be honest. It's probably a side effect of running the latest and greatest and trying to make it compatible with whatever is still running on drum memory and paper tape. Or a Win 7 desktop. Or both.
That ask really one thing of note when you send here. Lol. Takes effort to unpack😊!
I just shipped out a pair of shoes. 3 lb box was $7.20 priority mail / $8.07 ground advantage.
Yes, sometimes Priority is a little cheaper for buyers who live in neighboring states. I only offer Ground Advantage but will upgrade to Priority when I see it's cheaper.
As for the throttling, I have no idea but I do know that my sales are unpredictable. I have activity on my store every day by listing and selling similar and sending out offers when I can. My sales seems to come in spurts. Even the views and watchers come in spurts. I've stopped trying to figure it out because it will drive me crazy. Sometimes I feel like I'm on a Ebay roller coaster.
I’ve been sending more priority because it has been cheaper than ground shipping most times for me. I can also use the usps box so that makes it easier, and I save on a box.
UPS has also been cheaper sometimes too.
Yes - many times, Priority Shipping will be cheaper than Ground Advantage. I’ve found that it’s ALWAYS cheaper if it’s going to the same USPS ZONE as I’m in (basically 1 state away from me on all sides, as I’m in Colorado.) Works like a charm…
I have personally used priority over ground advantage multiple times because it was less expensive
Yes Priority is sometimes less depending on percentage discount!
If i find priority is a buck more than ground adv i still ship priority so i can use there boxes and you are right sometimes priority is cheaper than ground

eBay, Amazon, Etsy, even Pinterest is completely glutted with mass merchants from overseas, mostly China. And the ones that are not are drop shippers from there. Everything I type in a search brings me key word spam items I do not want. I used to shop on eBay daily. Now I almost never do, because it's not a place for individual sellers anymore. Which is also why I quit selling on there. I've been selling on there since 1998. I might sound like an old curmudgeon, but back in those days you didn't even have to have a photo. If you did, it was twenty five cents. And everything was easy. Now, I can't even update my seller information without giving away my bank account info. So, the answer to your question is YES. They do what they want and really don't care about individual sellers. If you've even figured out how to navigate their mess of a system, my hat is off to you, sir.
I do the shiping tags the same way
heavy items priority flat rate boxes yes
ebay does throttle listings Yes!
I frequently sell large lots of flatware, often 25 pounds. Flat rate Priority is the best way to ship heavy items. I have even shipped a box of 50 pounds of knives: Same price.
There are definitely items that I have sold that I will bump to Priority because it is cheaper.
any wizard of oz?
Nope
I do three days only because with kids I like to have that extra time incase something happens. Most of the time I have items out within a 24 hour period. Especially this time of year figuring it may be a Christmas gift although the closer we get the holiday I tend PM buyers on eBay reminding them it may not make it I. Time especially if it’s passed the PO’s guaranteed day.
