England and Germany too both have extremely strong second divisions with the English championship being by far the richest second division on the planet. The championship is valued higher then the MLS with 6 less teams.

Then look at Germanys second division, this season there are 7 stadiums with 49.000 seats or more. The league is also more attractive than our first one with big and traditional clubs and fan bases like Schalke, HSV, Hertha BSC, Nürnberg, Kaiserslautern, Hansa Rostock, etc.

Sunderland's Stadium of Light and Rotherham's New York Stadium are the only two in this division I haven't watched a match in yet (went to one at Rotherham's old Millmoor ground twice). There seems to be some kind of unwritten, unspoken curse attached to my attempts to watch a match at Sunderland. I went to Roker Park on one of the supporters' coaches once, having to haul myself up at 6 o'clock on a Saturday morning to be ready in time, after being out late on Friday night as was my wont. Three accidents and a lorry fire caused us to have to divert off the motorways, and we heard news of the matches up and down the country on the radio, which informed us that we were one and then two goals down, while still hoping to get to see at least some of the match. As it turned out,we got into Roker Park just before half time. Just before we got to the turnstiles a big cheer went up as a third goal against us went in. At least we saw the second half. We lost 4-0. One freezing Saturday in December a few years ago I made the long drive north to attempt to take in a match at the Stadium of Light. The snow came down more and more heavily, causing vehicles (not mine) to break down or be involved in prangs, causing blockages, jams and delays. I was still hopeful of getting to the match on time until a huge tailback at a snowbound Scotch Corner scotched my chances. I got into Sunderland just as the match was nearing full time, and by the time I arrived outside the ground it had finished. After staying the night at a hotel at the Northumberland settlement of Kirkwhelpington, run by a chap from Sunderland who told me the history of the place and how it got its name,I stopped off to take a walk round the Stadium of Light. It's a big, impressive ground, and a couple of unusual things about it I noted were the proximity to the River Wear that meant they had to build special extra strong foundations and those vents around the outside of that let gases escape from the old colliery workings beneath rather than build up and become dangerous. Perhaps one of these days I'll actually get to watch a match, and preferably a whole one,at it.

@@rjjcms1 well actually i'm a korean student and i'd never watched english football games in stadium but only by television at night. Since many korean players have played for sunderland afc, i had already known about the club, and after i I watched the netflix series 'sunderland til i die' i have being fan of sunderland afc. It's very sad for me that i can't watch efl championship in korea and i could watch the games' highlights by only youtube. I have been to London when I was 11 years old but I couldn't watch any games. After my studying for university, i'd like to go sunderland and watch a match. I didn't know it is very difficult to reach the stadium at time and watch a full match. I appreciate you for let me know about it and I hope you get to watch a match perhaps one of these days.

@@살비오헥시아 Just in case you're wondering what the Roker Park is that I referring to,it was Sunderland's old ground before they built and moved to the Stadium of Light in 1997. It wasn't as big as the Stadium of Light and a very old ground but the sound the home crowd used to make there became known as the "Roker Roar".
