Ronnie Barker wrote most of the stuff you see, much of it under the pseudonym of Johnathan Cobbald as he did not want to hog the limelight, He submitted the sketches for approval using Cobbald as his cover.

I new about Gerald Wiley (his most famous pseudonym) and Bob Ferris(when he wrote "Clarence") but not Jonathan Cobbald. Had to look this one up

Been watching two ronnies xmas specials on youtube. Great stuff.
Barker wrote some sketches under the alias Gerald Wiley amongst others. He did it so that the sketches would be judged on their merits rather than because he starred in the show. He later 'came out' as Wiley at a dinner with his fellow writers.

Beard, that scene you mentioned from Singin In The Rain, first time I saw that as a kid I was a mess the rest of the day! 🤣🤣🤣 I was getting on everyone's nerves coz couldn't stop laughing! 😳😅😅
That's one of my all time favorite movies and scenes. I'll still watch just that scene (or the other singing ones like Good Morning) on youtube and have them in spotify play lists

Interesting fact: Ronnie Barker wrote many comedy sketches and material for his show, but sent them in using a made-up name.

The two Ronnies never knew what it was like writing these sketches because they were never in the room when it happened, they constantly stole not only sketch ideas but pilot scripts and took them for themselves

In the 1970s, The Two Ronnies were part of the highlights of a Saturday night. Before video recorders, the pubs would be very quiet until these tv programmes were over. People would shower/bath and get ready and watch the tv in their best clothes so they could make a quick exit for the pub after they had finished. Truth.
