Skillet are a good example on how a true rock/metal band should look like. Songs with real message not messages about suicide, killing people, devil worship, voodoo or witchcraft. And it's a big thing to witness to people from the mainstream media where rock/metal music is all about the things I listed above. In one interview John Cooper said that when they were asked from popular artists about the Christianity thing - do they take that seriously, they answered with YES. He also explains saying you’re a Christian and that you love Jesus doesn’t mean you love him. That’s for god to decide if you’re a true Christian. Are we really going to go there? Scripture never forbids tattoos. There's only 1 verse which talks about cutting or marking your skin FOR THE DEAD but that's not even close to the tattoos that John or anyone else has. It was a pegan practice to mark themselves whenever someone close to them died. That's the only forbidden thing. John isn't doing that. Not to mention, scripture also says to not cut your hair or "trim the edges of your beard" (i.e shave). The main reason people tend to bash Skillet like this, is because it makes them feel better about being self-righteous. They think that if something isn't explicitly about God, its automatically Satanic and should be avoided like the plague. That mentality is very much like the Pharisees in the first century, caring more about their traditions and reputation than the love of Jesus. God has standards to be sure, and we should never deny that or Him...but most outside of the church won't respond to strictness very well.

Thank you for clearing this up; cause if I'm to be honest I got a little sick, and tired of some people saying Skillet isn't christian. I mean John always during concerts, and interviews always talks about how Jesus came into his life, and changed him. The same way he did for me. I really enjoy Skillet, a lot; went to their concert, and it was awesome!! In fact, I brought my entire family to it, and had a blast. There is ONE thing that makes me wonder why they do it, is to raise their hands with a 2 middle fingers down the other 2(besides the thumb) up. Skillet are a good example on how a true rock/metal band should look like. Songs with real message not messages about suicide, killing people, devil worship, voodoo or witchcraft.

The main reason people tend to bash Skillet like this, is because it makes them feel better about being self-righteous. They think that if something isn't explicitly about God, its automatically Satanic and should be avoided like the plague. That mentality is very much like the Pharisees in the first century, caring more about their traditions and reputation than the love of Jesus. God has standards to be sure, and we should never deny that or Him...but most outside of the church won't respond to strictness very well.

Thank you for clearing this up; cause if I'm to be honest I got a little sick, and tired of some people saying Skillet isn't christian. I mean John always during concerts, and interviews always talks about how Jesus came into his life, and changed him. The same way he did for me. I mean when I listen to Skillet I always find myself singing it, and it feels like the songs come from my heart. Like it is saying how my heart really feels. Plus I know this might sound weird but I've also found myself helping people, and telling them how Jesus cared about them, then when I'm done. I usually have that thought like did I just do that?
People attack Skillet for this all the time and I honestly don't get why they're so hard on them. "demonic symbols" come on! People find negative in anything. Yep; it was a very fear-minded childhood, all around. I wish I could say I was kidding about the more crazy aspects, but its 100% true. I remember being at a youth church service when I was 15 or so, listening to the "Bad" album on headphones. One of the adults came over, noted the CD booklet, and said in effect "that kind of music isn't appropriate here". I'm actually glad my aunt passed away before the 2005 trial; she'd have been all over me for trying to maintain my belief he was innocent. I grew up around people who, in many ways, believed that accusation equaled guilt...especially if you settled instead of trying to fight it. My aunt watched two things on TV - Bill Cosby and TBN. My uncle liked the news and Star Trek TNG. My sister and I were also allowed to watch most Disney films on VHS, but a lot of other fare was prohibited.

Anyone can CLAIM to be Christian. The Bible says "you will know them by their fruits". I saw a comment earlier trying to justify such bands by claiming the even Jesus dined with sinners. We really need to understand to be a true born again Christian, we need to put to death the deeds of the flesh. On their own Facebook page, they say they are a "rock" band, not a Christian rock band. And being friends with influencing Satanists is not a very good sign. Jesus said, You are either for me or against me.
They found a lucrative niche in the music world. Just like many country singers of the 1990s, they tried to make it as a rock group and we're just one of the 'also rans', but in country, they found a niche and became wealthy and famous.

The difference, Peter thought he may be crucified next to Christ if he exposed his relationship as a disciple of Jesus; whereas Cooper and Skillet believe they will make less money if they identify themselves as a "Christian rock" band. Yeah rather than being worth over $25 million in net worth as they are now, Cooper and his wife may only be worth $20 million if they overtly claimed they are a "Christian Rock" band.
For some, I guess it is all about the 'Benjamins'. At what point or at what level of net worth will it take to stop surrounding oneself with avowed Satan worshippers? Personally, I could not knowingly be in the same zip code with demons like Manson, Zombie, Osbourne and the rest of the hedonists in that crew. I guess $25 million plus is not enough pieces of silver to fully call themselves a "Christian Band".
