    Did a Hersheypark trip last year. It was pretty great actually. My biggest criticisms are they need some more indoor family things to do and better food that’s not sweets.

      MORE indoor family things!? 😂 They have musicals, zoos, seal acrobatics, an indoor coaster, arcades, games, the chocolate tour, and all the shops, restaurants, and public areas. You could spend a whole day at Hershey with kids and not do a single ride. If you get tired of all that, just hit the boardwalk for a while and relax. Not indoors, but you get my point.

      @@stephen8797 Dude, that’s what I’m saying lol, especially compared to all Six Flags parks and all Cedar Fair parks. Obviously, it’s no Disney World, but this guy simply has never spent much time at Hershey. If he thinks there’s nothing to do inside for families. You could spend an entire day at the park and never do a ride. And all the restaurants are incredible. From Gyros, to Wood-smoked BBQ, to their new restaurants in chocolatetown, to run-of-the-mill stuff like Chick-fil-A or Starbucks…it’s all there.

    I think you also gloss over the fact that Hershey has the best theme park hotel I have ever experienced. The food was fantastic, the grounds of the hotel were *gorgeous*, there's free chocolate at every counter and on your bed each time it gets made, on top of all the usual amenities. its just all around such a great hotel and is one of the main reasons i want to return to Hershey park at some point.

    I am a huge coaster enthusiast, but I don't have the privilege of visiting these massive amusement parks very often. I basically get 1 park a year so when I go, coasters are my top priority. I value coasters 100x more than anything else because of how rarely I get to ride them (and I have to imagine my situation is pretty common). SteVe, MF, and Maverick being better than everything at Hershey more than justifies visiting CP instead. Plus, the location of CP is pretty spectacular. The view (especially from MF lift hill) is just unreal. I still think Hershey is a top 3 park in North America, but CP is in a tier of it's own for me.

      While I do enjoy the theming at SDC/Dollywood, I think people give it more credit then it deserves.. making a Western theme is the easiest of all theming... Only their commitment to staying in character and forcing everyone to dress old school makes it more then other places with Western sections. But that isn't that difficult, any park could recreate it fairly easily.

    I understand why CP was used as a reference for the best park in the US, though I feel you could make a really good argument King's Island tops both of these. Most enthusiasts agree SteVe beats out King's Island's top coasters of course, but the level of quality of their lineup applies here, but what really does it for me is how well the park is run. Kings Island, compared to Cedar Point, has excellent operations and very little downtime on rides, a massive selection of merch for every ride, and very kind and welcoming workers.

CP has the better coaster lineup (which you proved trying to prove Hershey has the better lineup, lol), a better atmosphere (I’ll take the beach and island feel over candy theming everywhere), and is more of a destination park. I also for one love how Cedar Point feels so big and spread out, it makes everything feel like a new adventure rather than crammed. HP may have better food though, I’ll give it that. Overall though Hershey might be a more UNIQUE park, but CP is by far the better park.

However, I've also been to Cedar Point five times with the most recent being last year on Memorial Day weekend. While I definitely agree that Hersheypark is the more themed and family oriented park, Cedar Point has more rides that are top end and IMO runs their rides more efficiently and quickly than Hersheypark. I was unhappy with the slow lines considering that I never remembered them being that slow back in the day & with an 11 am to 7 pm park hours in the beginning of the park season. I can understand both sides, but I guess with me having gone there numerous times and worked there, after a while it gets a little boring on some rides. I'm excited for Wildcat's Revenge next year.

    Hershey being my home park, this is certainly not going to be the best in the country, Hershey is a very good B+/A- park, at most things, however it has glaring issues with operations and staff morale. Still have not put the effort into returning to normal hours this decade, those things alone disqualify from best park. Atmosphere is good and the park is clean, this is correct. It does many things good, few things "great" and few things underwhelming. Solid B+, I have always considered it almost but not quite best at literally everything. Which there is no shame in, in any way. Where Hershey shines is it's seasonal events, "though dark nights was a disappointment to me personally", again the staff😒. Christmas candylane is very good and has been improving yearly. Springtime is "fine", definitely worst part of the year as they don't seem prepared to operate, but rather then vs summer season. For my money KI is the country's best park with Silver dollar city on it's tail based on experience.

      I 100% agree with your take of Hersheypark and grading of it between a B and B+ for me. I live less than 20 minutes from Hersheypark, visited the park numerous times since my first visit in 1996 & worked there from 2005-2009. The staff (ride ops particularly) there does make it less than satisfying for park goers and having worked there in the past, that disappoints me. They really make or break the experience whether they believe it or not. I prefer Knoebels over Hersheypark because of that and other obvious reasons - reasonably priced food and ride tickets, free admission and parking.

    • @cpdragster420
      @cpdragster420 2 года назад +1

      @@marquessmith7428 agree totally on the staff make or break, and I hate saying it regarding Hershey as it takes away from the many amazing staff members they surely have. Compared to other parks I've been to the good/bad/lazy/disinterested ratio of Hershey just doesn't hold up compared to Knoebels for sure, even Great adventure this year was leaps and bounds above the Hershey staff, and given that's a six flags park I really hate saying that, but the staff there was fantastic. Kings Dominion about on Par/slightly above Hershey as was SFA. It feels being a local Hershey has cried wolf on staffing now going on 8-9 years, it's enough to make me question how staff is treated from above, I've never worked there and can't speak to it, but it's entered my mind. They seem to have problems staffing all over the complex from Chocolate world to events at Giant center, and this started before COVID. I actually hope to someday for a year as I feel all theme park fans should work 1 for a year in a way just to see how much BS they actually put up with, I can only imagine.

    I agree with virtually every point, atmosphere, food, extras, flags, Hersheypark all the way. I’ll take the coasters of CP, but I still love Skyrush and the others.
    However one thing that easily keeps Hersheypark out of one of my favorites is the ride operations. I visit a lot of parks, 25 parks in 2021, 23 parks in 2022 and Hershey has some of the slowest moving ride ops around. I don’t expect Disney/Universal or even Cedar Point/Kings Island quick ops, but with how great that park is their lines move very slow. If their ride ops moved with a sense of purpose I would absolutely call Hersheypark one of the best in the county, in my opinion it’s the only thing holding them back from being one of the best.

But Hershey is great too, love how things are crammed in, although it's really stupid how that came to be necessary and the entrance layout etc. The Point is also a victim of its own success, can be an ordeal even before talking about how far away it is. HP is also getting more crowded, but you still might have a better time there, or even further southeast.

    4:43 actually disagree. Cedar point completely dominates the carousel department. you have three antique carousels. including a D.C MULLER, one of only two left in existence, a racing derby, one of 3, and a dentzel menagerie. cedar point is not only the rollercoast, it’s the carousel coast. but hershey has an exquisite PTC carousel, so no complaints there

    You have some good points but I still think Cedar Point is better. Imo lineup is better, and some areas in the park have a better atmosphere, such as the Midway. Also, hershey feels more so an amusement park than a theme park. Cedar Point is too, but it’s hard to beat Frontier Town in terms of amusement park theming. Even though I absolutely love going to hershey, I think Cedar Point is slightly better.

    Yeah... i might just be coping cuz cp was my first park, but cedar point would need more
    Better food (this doesn't really matter as much, cuz some people feel like vomiting after eating and going on a coaster.)
    A modern hyper. As much as we all love magnum it would be best if replaced with a b&m hyper.
    Some coasters should have theming but there's not much to them when most of your coasters break 200 feet.

    I dunno man. I kind of disagree with this take. I have never been to Hersheypark, which I know kind of discredits my points, but I still think Cedar Point is a great park, and it’s hard to see another one topping it. However, one bias I had is that I had the Fast Pass for Cedar Point, whereas you didn’t which may have impacted your ability to really slow the pace of your visit.
    1. I really like Millie. I got a front row ride, and It was just perfect. It has the best view from actually on the roller coaster from any coaster I’ve been on. The station music is great, the ride is smooth and intense. Millie is extremely close in quality to Steel Vengeance for me.
    2. I think Cedar Point was extremely beautiful. The beautiful views of Lake Erie and the pond around Iron Dragon were mesmerizing.
    3. I don’t really like overly sweet desserts that much.
    4. I think that with everything operating, Cedar Point was a much better coaster lineup.
    5. The Weather on my Cedar Point trip was immaculate. 72 Fahrenheit, No wind. This is just a bias thing for my visit, not an actual point against Hersheypark, as I’m sure the weather there is better on average.
    I know I shouldn’t draw conclusions before I go to Hersheypark, and I do think it will be amazing. However, from my visit to Cedar Point, it’s hard to picture any park beating it.

    Tbh I think both are super good parks, but with Hershey being the park I went to when I was 5 and my first major coaster was comet. It got me scared, but I am riding a giga every 2 weeks. I think cedar point is more beautiful and have better rides but Hershey has the nostalgia for me. I can’t really decide which is better, but I give cp the slight increase, mainly because steel vengeance is there, I didn’t ride iron qwazi.

    Steve > Wildcat's Revenge
    Don't even need to explain this one
    Maverick > Skyrush
    Just the more aggressive and violent version of skyrush
    Magnum > Candymonium
    The better hyper with a mix of floater and crazy ejector
    Dragster > Storm Runner
    Launch is punchier, better restraints, fast af, and insane tophat
    Valravn = Farenheit
    Farenheit's layout is slightly better but those restraints are trash, also it's much scarier diving 200 feet and going into these massive disorienting inversions
    Raptor > Great bear
    Has all of great bear's snappy elements and more, and just contains more intense elements
    Blue streak < Comet
    They both have ejector but blue streak is just shorter and rougher
    Laff track = Wild mouse
    Their really just the same but Laff track is just in the dark and has theming
    There's no real answers Hershey park has for Millenium Force, gatekeeper, Rougaro, and Gemini
    Lineups honestly don't really compare here
    For flat rides CP is just better
    Power tower > Hershey's triple tower
    It's everything Hershey's triple tower is but better, and with a space shot
    Windseeker > Kissing tower
    The view for windseeker alone just feels stunning, and you really feel free with these rides
    Flat rides is another w for CP
    As for atmosphere, I gotta give it to CP, the whole peninsula feeling is just crazy. Even driving up to the park just feels grand, it's pretty insane. Especially when you can take a fricking BOAT to CP. Walking through the park really just feels like a palace but with rides. You have the on site hotel giving you an amazing view out on Lake Erie, the coasters dominating the skyline, and just the sheer mass of the park.
    I will give the win to Hershey park for the food and dark rides since Cedar Point doesn't have any answers to either, but every other category is beaten out by Cedar Point.

    I think you should account for how long you have to wait in line for the 2 best coasters at Islands of Adventure and other than that all you have left for a thrill coaster at Islands of Adventure is Incredible Hulk which has a meandering second half. The vast majority of your time will be spent in line at Islands of Adventure since there’s no Express option for Hagrid’s or Velocicoaster. Islands of Adventure is a bad value compared to Sea World Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa. Velocicoaster is great, but I have it placed just under Maverick in my rankings because I don’t care about theming. I just got back from Florida and I’ll be going back to BGT & SWO within the next year. I won’t be going back to IoA until they add another coaster. Cedar Point, Busch Gardens Tampa, Fiesta Texas, Silver Dollar City, Sea World Orlando and King’s Island all offer vastly superior value for roller coaster enthusiasts compared to Islands of Adventure.

    • @supremefan

      I consider IoA and Universal one park as if you have a season pass they are basically one park. Wait times for VC only runs 20 mins during school days on the off season and Hagrids 60 mins. Of course your can't goto CP in February to compare... It's really hard to find a slow day at CP that isn't weather related as they do reduced hours as soon as school goes into session. So for me being able to go year round makes IoA rank so much higher. Also VC slaps in the last 2 rows, it's tame in the other seats. it's my #1 due to the comfort of the trains and the speed of the ops. You can marathon VC easier then ANY other top 10 coaster except maybe a 4 across B&M like Mako.

      @@supremefan Not really fair to compare home park advantages vs parks you have to travel to. Besides, I was just there the week of Hurricane Nicole on weekdays and couldn’t believe how crowded it was. The vast majority of people aren’t able to travel to parks during slow times, which is exactly why the parks are slow at those times. Even with Iron Gwazi being closed at BGT, I found BGT’s coaster lineup to be vastly superior to both parks combined at Universal (Let’s be honest, it’s really one park). I love Velocicoaster, but if I’m looking to ride coasters, Universal might not even crack my Top 10 after I hit up the Pennsylvania and Virginia parks in 2023. There’s just not enough at Universal in the Thrill Coaster category

    • @supremefan
      @supremefan 2 года назад

      @@theheardtheorem neither is my home park... I'm stuck between two shitty six Flags in IL. I agree the coaster count isn't there with only 5 real coasters... but out of them 4 are awesome. If you are looking for forces only then sure any CP park will beat it. But when comparing quality, atmosphere and overall fun UOR is definitely a competitor. I do agree however that BG is likely the best of both worlds, either location. I haven't been to Hershey yet but that also appears to be up there with atmosphere/ride quality.

    • @rodneyp9590

      Busch garden Tampa sucks. I can’t be alone on this. I went and they had 4 coasters running. A couple were scheduled maintenance and a couple were just down. Iron gwazi was opening in a week so season pass holders could ride so they released half train after half train on that and everything else had a multi hour wait. They have good employees overall but I ran into some of the worse I’ve ever seen outside of a carnival. One guy pushed my 5 year old daughter for not getting off fast enough. The layout is stupid. Areas that look like the path are dead ends and the path is inconspicuous. The food is fine, but who wants to stand in line an hour for overpriced bbq. Kracken is fun, that’s about it.

    • @theheardtheorem
      @theheardtheorem 2 года назад +1

      @@rodneyp9590 Kraken is at Sea World. I went on 2 consecutive days (Sunday & Monday) and both days were 2 of the best days I’ve spent in a park. Sounds like you went when it was busy and the more busy a park is, the more likely you are to run into jerks and bad employees since the bad employees pretty much only get scheduled during peak hours.

    I’ve never been to Hershey but as a nicotine addict cedar point kinda sucks. Having one smoking section on a peninsula that long is awful. Any smoke break is an hour plus. When I was a kid people smoked everywhere and that sucks too I just think a second or third small corner should be added. Also operations during Covid sucked, I haven’t gone in a couple years so I don’t know if they improved. Mostly it’s a good park but it’s in Ohio so it has a strong desire to do everything a little sucky.
