Man! You just throwed a stone to my head! You have made me realized what I already knew... I need to go out of my comfort zone and stop procrastinating. You made me realize that the few gigs I got actually happened because I was socializing. I stopped doing that and I came back to be a bedroom DJ. The awfulness (and awesomeness) of truth just hit me in my face.
I agree heavily with having social skills and the ability to connect with other people. For example, in my high school, I’m well known for being “the DJ” and that has gotten me quite a few gigs lined up for the next couple of weeks. You not only gotta know people, you should know people that KNOW other people, if yk what i mean
DJ Carlo Atendido thanks 🙏🏾 , I am not a scratch dj still learning the art, but started djing in night clubs and slowly got out of it and went into the mobile market which is good for networking and getting your name out there it’s a more viable market, I find night club djs burn out after a wile if they can’t keep the hype other than mobile djs that are needed for what they can offer, professionalism, music knowledge, and products you can offer your clients.
I really appreciate you for the all contents you put out but especially for this one. Right now I am struggling with the same issue and this video gave me more cleaner direction where to go etc. One more time thank you.
Tanks Carlo, I’m just recovering from a nightmare gig and what you said make me feel really good and make me turn back to the essence. Have fun and make people happy. I’ m going back on my table now, big thanks, your awesome!!
I’ve been watching you a for a while now, and your Channel is really awesome! I’ve been a Dj for 20+ years. I took 8 yrs off, recently went back and now full time in Clearwater area. You have come a long way in this Channel and just want to say thank you for your motivation, sharing your skill set and being a great human for teaching.
I commented on the wrong video last night, it was late! I MEANT to say that *THIS* is the most most impactful instructional video on the internet. In the sea of online content, we go down the rabbit hole of technique and gear, but what matters is art, connecting to people, and moving butts. You are awesome 💪🏼
Your honest opinion is very valuable, you hold keys most DJs will never just from your approach. I appreciate you, so much and keep inspiring many people. Much love DJ S1, CALIFORNIA.
You're totally right! 2 year ago i spent all my time and money to practise hard skills which nobody care and buying gear, but after all i still a bedroom DJ. But a few month ago, i started going out and make friend and now i got a ton of invitation to many big shows in my city. More and more peoples must know about this. Thank you Carlo!
haha, no matter where i go, i always have that CDJ-ready USB drive with me. You never know what happens and it already gave me some awesome opportunitys to play😁🙏🏻
So much truth in this video, this industry is fully about being in the right place at the right time, making friends and being nice to everyone, CDJ setups in bedrooms don’t get you gigs they only make big holes in pockets.
Really nice advice Carlo! I realized this a little bit by myself. I learned last year a lot of skills and it’s nice. But I also thought always, big DJs didn’t use this skills on their gigs. They concentrate more on the music production. Why I should spend so much time on skills development? I don’t mean the basics skills (this kind of skills you have to master), I mean advanced skills. I keep always in my mind to produce my own tracks. But this is my second step. I also realized this year, how important connections are! And you don’t have to know a club owner or promoter. Sometime it’s enough if you get know an another DJ which have connections to a club owner or promoter, who can make a little promo for you. I would love, if you do often videos like this. Or at least one video per month. It motivates people to get out of their comfort zone and go out of their bedroom!
Yeah, its true, social habilities is among the most important skills you should master to crush it in this world, it will help you in all areas of your life, great tip Carlo :)
Best. Video. Ever!!! The social barrier gets tougher and tougher as time goes by! I realize you just have to do it, get out there and let people know what you think! Thank you for your existence and providing such good advice!

Honestly, I am glad someone else has said this. This is something I have known for a long time but being a Dj in California is not easy at all! Still trying to this day to put in that social work.
A short video with an abundant amount of knowledge! I was on that mindset to take classes online for DJing, but I held back after finding your channel. That is why I always come back to your library of tutorials, because they are a goldmine of easy to follow tutorials. Not to mention very fun to try. No matter how much I mess up, I can always rewind and watch over and over. You are also the only DJ here on YT that I watch in terms of tutorials. Keep it up LODI! I don't think I will ever become a full time DJ, but I do plenty of family and friend parties. Watching them having a great time to music is reward enough for me. Plus they tell me that the party was fun more so with the music I play. Not to mention I am doing something that I truly enjoy, playing and listening to music.
You are spot-on! I love your videos. High quality, straight forward & real. Been a DJ since 1989 & your tutorials have totally helped me keep up. Time goes by pretty fast...bless you Carlo!
Great advice. DJed house parties back in the early 2000s and getting back into again after almost 15 years. Getting the limited silver DDJ 400 soon and really excited to practicing again.
Really appreciate this, Carlo. I agree that skills aren't everything, but they certainly can help you set yourself apart from the crowd. Networking has mattered so much to me and my career, however. It's been SUCH a blessing to get me gigs that I'd never imagined I'd get, but networking also helped me meet so many amazing people that have helped my journey, too.
I get you man; Personally, i've started late (2012, at the age of 30). Went to full dj school, and full production course, got everything from new (xone 92, 2 x cdj 2000, cdj 900, 2 x 1210's MK2 + all production kit: Yamaha HS80M, Yamaha NS10M Studio, Yamaha A100 amp, iMac, soundcard & midi). I've also won 3 dj competition in the row within the next year. I've learned the hard way that if you don't have the RIGHT connection/connections will never happen, no matter how much/hard you will try, even socialising and supporting nights, Yes, you will work your way up a little bit, that is correct; however - I'm wondering how many nights Paris Hilton did support until she reached 1 MILLION paid in 4 gigs @ 90 min.per gig.
Man you're the best, you do the most legit stuff that's out there... You make me realize what's really important to be a good DJ! I shall always be your fan...❤️
Man you always make awesome videos, i spend a lot of money with equipament that i don't need! You just say everything that i need to hear right now! Thank you so much from Brasil!
*Dude....* you really encourage me to push myself out of my comfort zone! For a few months I've been procrastinating in DJing. And socializing. I'm not good at starting conversations, or making sure conversations go on. I'm not even good at making friends in general dude...😭 I'm also going through some personal problems which decreased my socialization by a big amount. This really helps me though. Especially this part of the video 3:55 - 4:40. What you said was just...I don't know how to explain it but all I'm saying is, thank you so much man!!! 😭
Coming from a dj business owner my self what he says is right. Practice, practice and practice some more and learn the skills and craft. Also what I did was record my mixes and played them back to hear the mixing, blending, and transitions. Because while doing so you're all into it and can't really hear the mistakes, but when you listen the recording you can pick up on them and learn what to practice more on.
Speechless ako kuya carlo knowing that me myself is not that good in socializing but thank you for sharing this story and thank you for waking my passion up. 😌
Omg I needed to hear this! I’ve been djing for a month and I know I’m good, but I am nervous to put myself out there (although I know I’m pretty good from my family and friends’ reaction towards my mixing). ❤️ I also just lost my job, and I’ve been a home body to not spend much money. But I have to make some sacrifices.
I get where you are coming from, Carlo. I'm a social introvert. I can be the life of the party for 4 or 5 hours, then I need alone time to recharge. When I was isolated from the crowd in a club, I could do what I wanted and not have to "people". I'll never be a DJ that is always on the mike. Just let me play and mix and make people dance. I will rock a festival stage one day, but I'd rather work in a club and burn the place down every night. My happy place is watching a dancefloor come apart at the seams as I mix from track to track. Best job on the planet.
@@djcarlo My DJing is now relegated to lucrative hobby/side gig. I did my full-time club gigs back in the 80s and early 90s. My real job is IT Security geek.

Just another thought: To DJs today, I would HIGHLY recommend also diving a little bit into some simple production. There is unimaginable value in a DJ who can also produce music, even if It is nothing spectacular because It lets you learn the basics of how songs are arranged and what makes them work well. Just a thought. I do find myself in the production seat more. 😀

I did my first “gig” last Friday and man that was awesome it was just a party at my friends house we invited a shit ton of people. Sadly at the end the cops came but people were enjoying the music, bitches were grinding and all that. I’m only 17 and it felt super good to get out of your comfort zone.
