I had a business 10 years ago & closed it after 3 years for the same reason. It was a hard lesson. I then found my true calling 2 years later. In 10 years time this will seem like a little blip on your radar. Congratulate yourself on your hard work & what you achieved then start looking to the future again. Best of luck to you

As a successful small business owner who has failed numerous times, I'd just like to say that your work ethic, courage, creativity, personal growth, and honesty do not close when your business does. Take what you've learned a build something even better. Imagine if you had started your bakery with the knowledge you have gained from starting your bakery. You get a clean slate, and now, you have a leg up. The only thing between you and your dreams is fresh air.

And the business dies because employees are RNG. You can get great ones, you can get career-ending ones. Businesses need employee insurance. Stress, anxiety, and depression prompted me to leave my career back almost 30 yrs ago and to pivot in a similar manner to a much simpler lifestyle. Success is measured in happiness and fulfillment, not necessarily financial gain. I'm confident you will continue to blossom and grow. You can bet I'll still look forward to watching whatever your life brings you on RUclips. A thought, you might consider step by step baking videos aimed at us beginner Bakers just learning the basics. I've pretty much conquered sourdough and have moved on to gooey maple pecan cinnamon buns that are simply to die for. It's such a shame I'm diabetic and must greatly restrict how much of such treats I eat. You have such a mild, pleasurable manner about you, I'm sure you will do well as a content creator. Hi Lily, I just wanted to say that I completely understand how you are feeling at the moment. I made the decision 3 months ago to close my microbakery business in favour of working a full-time job. It was a really hard decision to make and I still feel sad about it. Although the business was flourishing and in a period of massive growth, I decided that the stress, cost and uncertainty of owning my food business was just not for me. I'd been offered a job that paid well but would require more responsibility than previous roles and I just couldn't turn it down when I considered how much more free time, sleep and just general happiness I would likely have, even though I did love baking. It's really hard to make these decisions especially if you really love your customers, as a part of you feels like you're letting them down, but the reality is that they will completely understand your reasons and support you 100%. And, although it does hurt to admit it, our customers will find another bread supplier. Like you, I have decided to continue sharing content to my customers as a hobby rather than business venture, and I wish you well in continuing your content creation journey. All the best - Megan x

This video came up as a suggestion to watch just as i was ready to return home from New Zealand at the weekend. I saved to watch for when i got home, and have just watched it. It really saddened me to see how emotional you got about having to close your micro bakery down. you have obviously invested so much of yourself into the business, and all the stresses & strains that come with it have taken there toll. The lovely thing is you come across as a very driven & determined person, and i’m sure that whatever direction you take next will be successful. I saw this in passing and listened a little, then I just had to click and comment. Lily I had to do the same thing in 2022 and shut down due to other conflicts, and I cried so hard when I came to the realization that it had to be done. SO I closed with the belief that I would restart when I was ready and it didn't happen at all last year, 2023, but now I am there and am going all- in with everything I've got.. and everything I've learned. All of my things are in storage, so I just needed the new place and I have it now.. so the countdown to reopen will begin soon.
That said. I just wanted to give you encouragement to go ahead with your closing because your health does come first! My hand would itch with certain ingredients and cramp up when stirring, but these are things I am overcoming. But health is of the utmost importance. You may be able to determine that one day reopening may be in the works once you get to a certain point, especially if you are able to hold onto your equipment!
Also, it's a blessing that you were open as long as you were! Look at the experience you have and the knowledge you have gained on growing your brand. Many don't have that and you will be great at influencing others in your new area of expertise and I hope that we can chat and motivate each other even though I am "across the pond" in the US! I will look for your social media and will let you know it's me
I'm so glad I saw this as I love showing support and getting some in return. Lots of love

As someone who has run a bakery for 10 years (just out of it) I know how hard the business is. To attempt to do everything by yourself is massive. I honestly don't believe the vast majority of people could do it. Nobody would believe what an enormously physically demanding business it is. You clearly have huge dedication, stamina and willpower to have made it for as long as you did. I'd say one of the smartest things you've done is to have the strength to realise that it was time to stop. Most people carry on until they are broken. I've seen that many times. You will have learned a lot which you can take to new ventures and you will look back and know for sure that you made the right decision. Good luck, good health and good days ahead. Well done :)

I'm trying to re-start my small business, and it came to a total halt when I had my child. Admire your transparency through your journey. You got this 🎉 You have an authentic approach & it’s incredibly relatable. I personally have gone through burnout several times throughout my life, I found it to be the biggest blessing as it gave me the opportunity to take that well needed pause to reflect & reclalervrate. I decided to pivot 20yrs into my dedication to the hospitality industry into launching my own health & wellness platform. Best decision I’ve made this far. Excited to see the next chapters ahead for you ❤

Thanks so much for sharing this very vulnerable video. It resonates so much with me and it has taken me so long to give myself grace from past experiences where things didn't go as planned. In 2020 just before the pandemic, I had launched a food business, went into a commercial space and all. Three weeks later, covid shut down the world and during the following 6 months I was under immense physical and mental stress that triggered health issues which led to a lyme disease diagnosis that was extremely expensive to treat and along with all of that, my 12 year relationship succumbed to all the stress we had both been going through. I started to realize I was completely overwhelmed by the business and I was not financially prepared and couldn't afford employees, but I knew I could no longer do it myself either. I pivoted my business and became a personal chef. Started a whole new life over again, all on my own but with my family by my side providing me the emotional support I needed. The thought of my first business failing used to give me crippling anxiety. I felt so much shame and fear of starting a business again. I felt like a complete failure. But with time, I realized that I learned so much from that experience and it has prepared me for my next venture. I often don't give myself credit for the bravery it took to even launch in the first place. It takes guts to start a business and it might not always go as planned but it will lead you where you are supposed to go no matter what. It's been almost 4 years now and I'm finally ready to take the leap again and I feel way more prepared than the first time around lol. I wish you the best on your new journey and I'm sure with your following and your talent, success will find you.
