Yeah, Tony. I like your playing ! Thanks for the generous lessons. I am a Jazz Guitarist who also likes piano , so I know music but the piano applications you show push my playing forward.
"Treat 9, 11, 13 as 7th chords, but have to pay attention to the flat 5" Brilliant!! I struggle to prioritize what's necessary and what's not in these complex jazz chords. You could make a video on this concept alone. Maybe also talk about the similar situations with dominants (altered is sometimes necessary given the melody)
Thanks Tony ! I'm working on that song right now and my wife would like to sing it so the accompaniment part of the video is a great help and full of ideas ! So , again , Thank you for sharing all this !
Hi Tony , i am so glad i found your channel tonight by accident . Thanx to you , now I know how to play that particular song properly . I always knew I missed some notes with my left hand each time I played the chords ( I like to play by ears ) . Have a wonderful day :)
Thank you so much. Feels like back to the recent normal past, where we fell in love and longed for someone, and not just watched people get sick and perish praying that our most dear ones survive...
Thank you for breaking this down to us. … I played this just using guitar tabs,,,and I was figuring out melody since I know the song,, and I was running into this kind of chords ! I was like what are these chords???? But after watching you ,, it made sense to me now 7th and 11 etc,, thank you so much for wealth of information!
This is wonderful. I’m an amateur with lots of gaps in skill/knowledge and these videos really help fill in those gaps and keep me wanting to learn more. Great pacing and explanations. Thank you!
Me too, Tony Winston lessons are Gold. I got to grade 5 piano in the UK but always wanted to learn jazz ballads. My only regret is we didn't have the internet 30 years ago.
Thanks for this wonderful video. It seems to me that today there is greater clarity in seeing your hands. Whatever you are doing, keep it up. The Mantooth books are favorites- please continue through them. Thank you.
Hello Tony, thank you so much for posting this detailed tutorial. I'm currently learning how to play it and it's really helpful. I've checked your playlist and it seems there isn't "Everything Happens to Me" yet? Would you please consider giving the beginner intermediate tutorial on that song?
Thanx, Maestro. I appreciated the breakdown. (Julie's version is so warm and sexy=Julie Londonrock on the Flintstones😉). Thanks again, Tony, for(re)introducing great repertoire. 🌹🌹🌹🔥
I says B9 or Fm7 ok Fm7 is a flat 9 on the 5th 3rd on the 7th a 13th on the 3rd flat 5 on the root .. ah cool that sounds good with a B pedal playing Gbm to Fm 3rds on tops to B9 5th on top
Hi Tony, where you played the accompaniment for the singer really got my attention because I'm going to a small informal jam session at a guy's house and I've started practicing to play for a singer with a root in my LH and guide tones in my right, or rootless voicings in my RH using some simple rhythm here and there. Your comping sounds so much more advanced and interesting to me. Have you done any videos explaining how to comp for a singer? How does yours differ from what I described?
No sorry, thanks for asking. In the future I might but right now I only teach kids - it is one reason why i think my videos are accessible, I don't dumb them down but I have years of practice explaining stuff . In person is way better than zoom for learning jazz. However, I did a vid today where I will trade riffs with the viewer - so it's kind of the next best thing to a live lesson. Let me know if you found it useful when it comes out in a few days.
I never noticed those clunky harmonies because I always cringe so much with the rhyming lyrics 'plebian' & 'me, and...' Just the most clunky moment in all of jazz 😝
Yeah, Tony. I like your playing !

Wonderful teaching in this. Thank you I'm so glad that you did play it in Julie London's key. She has such a beautiful low smoky voice.

It’s a bit above my present level but I find your instruction almost mesmerizing. I fully appreciate your expertise.

I love that F# "rub" on that G7. Works really well right after that great EbM7 resolution.
Another superb lesson Tony, thanks very much. Unbeatable
Very fine information from a very fine musician.
this is beautifully explained
, beautifully played and a true inspiration to pick our instruments and play.
thank you sir
It would be nice to see that great work you are doing beyond the chord progressions notated. Maybe a midi file, Sibelius, Notion, etc.
This is a jazz piano and harmony masterclass! Incredible content.
Thanks for this wonderful video. It seems to me that today there is greater clarity in seeing your hands. Whatever you are doing, keep it up.

Another great video. BTW, the opening phrase is the saxophone hook from Wham's "Careless Whisper"
Wow,! great lesson. I like Eb, fingering/scales good in this key.
Mmm I like this song n thx fr th great lesson as usual👍🎵🎹
Cool

Also, the practice on Major Minor relatives around minute 6, where can I find it? It seems hardly available on youtube!😂

are those drop 2 voicings around 13:30 anything related to the Benny Harris voicings? The diminshed alternating pattern sounds similar to me
I think you mean Barry Harris. Yes, he talks about this .
Tony: To me you are relaxingly EASY to follow *. Are you accepting Zoom students ?? - If you are then I wish to be your 1ST Class, A-#1 student 👍👍😄

Wasn't Julie London fabulous!
