  • This a compilation of old photographs of Fort Shafter, Hawaii. The base was established in 1907 and continues to operate today as the location of U.S. Army Pacific's headquarters. These are photographs I have acquired and restored over the years. As I walk around Palm Circle and through the streets of Fort Shafter each day before lunch I think of the many soldiers who have passed through this beautiful military facility. Many of the buildings depicted in the photographs are long gone, however, many still exist, and amazingly look much as they did in the old photographs. A new headquarters building T100 was built at the onset of World War II. It was affectionately referred to as the Pineapple Pentagon. The USARPAC headquarters is still located in this building. A new HQ building and command center is in the works.

@Sgtwack62 It was a fun place to be an MP, Derussy was a dream for an MP. I saw more action there than I do as a civilian cop. I experienced AMR before the tear down and rebuild. Hibiscus, Plumeria, and all the other ghetto streets. I worked traffic almost the entire time, but went to as many calls as I could. It's hard to believe that small of a place has that large of a call load. had that big of a call load.

Thank you, Billie. I am doing research on Lt. General R.C. Richardson had his headquarter at Fort Shafter during WW2. I enjoyed and found your video fascinating! I have his footlocker with contents. Thanks, Greg Krenelok - Director - U.S. Army Veterinary Corps Historical Preservation Group. Walked those streets 92-94. HHC 29th Engineers. Really neat to see that they had a rifle range and a pool. The football field looked like it was where the softball field was when I was there. Thanks

I was in the USASCH MP Company 1981-1983. Did the Detachment detail at Fort Derussy and have great memories of playing cops and robbers out in AMR

I was there from '69 to '71 at the Telecommunications Center (underground!). I loved it there. Got married and got an apartment near post in Honolulu. Wonderful life there. So many great memories.
