Thank You, It's the Perfect Video for my exact same coat. Yes I've made the mistake before not allowing for shank space, and then too tight to button coat. A fake button spacer, might come in handy, like fat O-Ring protecting shank from wear. Just an ole farmer, a stone throw from Rochester. Cheers
@@TailorItYourself I bet I spent 3 hours just looking at basic sewing kits at Amazon, then gave up. There are some clever travel kits by Fiskars. To lock down a small kit with heavy duty waxed thread, is tough. Cheers
You don't necessarily need a kit. You can buy needles and button thread on their own. I would browse wawak.com or pop into a Joann Fabrics store if you have one locally. Even Walmart carries decent sewing supplies.
@@TailorItYourself Thanks' Hugely. I tried Amazon, and it's a nightmare for hours trying to sort through all the nonsense. I'll try Walmart as well. Cheers.
Hi. I am glad I came across your video. In my city, dry cleaners and tailors have become a rarity, so I had to risk sewing a button on a $500 Ralph Lauren pea coat. Thanks to you, I learned far beyond what I thought was necessary, and my project worked wonderfully. I have a question. You mentioned waxed thread--Is there any gauge or company you prefer? Thanks.
I'm glad you found it helpful! There's a recommended tools list in the description. Any brand thread is fine, but for coat buttons you want a heavy or button weight thread. Or at least 4 stands of regular weight threaded through the needle. Thanks for watching!
I would like to see more videos of yours. The ones listed on yuppie you tube are at least one year old. Have you posted since then? This video really helped me sew a button on a wool coat, I have not used a backer button and I just did it thanks to you. I would like to follow you. Thank you
I haven't in a while. These videos are extremely time consuming to make, and with weddings resuming and lots of events happening, my tailoring shop has been very busy. So for now I'm focusing on running my business. I'm hoping this fall I can start preproduction on some new stuff. Is there anything you'd like to see?
@@TailorItYourself I appreciate your answer. You are very Blessed for sure. I haven’t sewn for years and I’m in the mending mode. I’ll look at the other videos you have for now. You are a great speaker. Thanks for your reply. May you always be busy!

I'm envious of your thread collection. Thanks for the clear and concise tutorial.
It's many years in the making! Thanks for watching.
Thank you…this may seem obvious, but it’s helpful to have a complete guide.

No problem, you as well!
Great tutorial, thanks! I just sewed button and backer on my coat and it worked perfectly!
That's great! Well done.
Thanks for teaching me something absolutely new, (to me).

You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for that! Fixing my jacket as we speak.

I have a ton of polyester machine embroidery thread. Is that going to hold up or should I look for button thread?
Embroidery thread is fairly fine. It will work to some degree, but not as well as a button thread, or even a regular weight thread.
