Love your comments to all the "haters". Some people aren't here to learn and you just can't reach them. I stumbled across your videos and they are wonderful. Honest and interesting with a no nonsense attitude. Keep up the great work.
I just came across your videos and i have been trying to paint and just get so nervous doing it but when i seen you using something I had never heard of "water color pencils" I am now more excited then ever to try it. Your work is amazing I love it!! Thank you so very much!!! Your a wonderful artist!!
I am a graphite sketcher, i picked up color pencils to see if i can do color pencil sketches only to find out that the pencil i picked up were lyra water soluble... but instead of regretting my expensive purchase you have made me think of it as a lucky pick and made me fall in love with water color pencil... hope my art comes out well! Thanks for such amazing channel !
I only started painting for the first time in September and have learned so much from your watercolour videos and your excellent books that I have bought, Thank you, you are a joy to watch.
I love my watercolor pencils! They have replaced my travel pan for sketching outdoors. Great tips! Took me way too long to figure out I could wet the brush on the pencil to get my color! Thank you Charles!
I just discovered your channel and I really love your content! I hope there are more watercolor pencil videos to come!! Thank you so much for this!! 😇💖💖
I do love your one-liners in response to comments! You remind me of my much-missed Dad with your humour. He was a fabulous watercolour artist too. Thank you for making me giggle!
Hi, thank you so much for producing these videos and sharing your art. I have purchased most of your books and find your videos really complement them. I just enjoy giving it a go. Cheers.
This couldn’t have come at a better time! I just received your book “Quick & Clever Watercolor Pencils” today! It’s amazing information. Still waiting on the “Pocketbook” to get here, can hardly wait for its arrival. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy watching you paint! Every painting is amazing. Starting tomorrow with the pencils and working through the lessons. Thank you so much for all you do!
Charles you are an ACE for translating your gift of WP, I am in my 87th year now and still learning your terrific advice; you are a star furthermore some of your old copies of books are on my shelf in fact waiting right now on 3/1/23 for some of some more copies to arrive! keep up this terrific standard of teaching, regards for the New Year Peter Wright Sheffield yorks ; I was friends of many geordies when I was stationed at Carrick Camp, they were very sincere buddies God Bless you and keep well during these challenging times Peter
Thank you Charles! I have watercolor pencils but not very adept at using them! Thank you for your tips-you’re a great teacher! I will check out your website for your supplies and paints!
Hi Charles... A great video. I've aways painted in oils for many years and since watching your videos realize that using water colour saves so much time when apposed to waiting for layers of oil paint to dry. At the age of 77 the clock is ticking but I now continue to pump out more paintings and enjoy using water colours. Thanks for your excellent tutorial
Happy to have stumbled on your channel. I've recently rediscovered my dusty water-soluble colour pencils and am having a lot of fun already. Thank you for all the tips and tricks your videos provide.
I always though water colors and water color pencils are not for my type. I did a few very small water color paintings and some more water color pencil small paintings. But most of the time I used my Derwent watercolor set just for color pencil drawings only. Seeing you now I feel like venturing into water zone with or without pencils. You are very natural teacher who can inspire in a very easy way. Thank you for your nice tutorials.
Man! I’ve had watercolor pencils for years and never knew how to use them right. Thanks for sharing this👍... I’m also getting rid of the damn pencil sharpener and using my knife. The sharpener just frustrated me anyway lol. That was an awesome quick painting too btw. I’m going to go grab my pencils right now😁
Well my wallet is not pleased with this video but my heart and mind are jumping with joy at the idea of using these techniques for when I don’t want to lug all my watercolor supplies around with me!! Thank ya for another fantastic video!!! Now off to your shop I must go :)
I’ve been doing pencil sketches and then a photo to capture colors. But watercolor pencils are better for capturing the mood for a future painting. Thanks for such a great idea!
Great tutorials for the complete beginner. I have a set of watercolour pencils with not much of an idea on how to use them. Now I can use these videos as a guide. Thanks
Thank you so much for your tutorials I now feel comfortable taking my sketch book and colored pencils on my next cruise knowing I can bring back plenty of colored sketches to turn into larger paintings later You are spoiling me I now even though a beginner is saying this is so easy peasy ❤️🙏
I followed your advice a bought a set of Lyra Rembrandt pencils like you use - they made a huge difference. Also, the technique of getting paint from the pencil with a wet brush to paint the sky rather than scribbling with pencil worked much better and gave a much more consistent and even colour. I learnt so much in just 20 minutes of video and I now have two paintings I'm quite proud of now (the other being mountains and lake). I'm going to see what other watercolour pencil tutorials you have and have a go of these. And the "Christmas Bundle" I ordered from your website (for my Christmas present off my wife) arrived the other day so I can try some proper landscape painting in the New Year! Thank you SO MUCH - this has given me a huge amount of pleasure. P.S. I love the way you wipe your brushes on your sleeve - you're a "proper" artist !(Ha ha)
Greatly appreciated Charles for sharing your talent in watercolour pencils, not tried them to produce a picture. I'm really enjoying the chance to watch your videos again, thanks and appreciate how you achieve amazing results. Stay safe and healthy as the wife says you tell it as it is no messing! ,,
Thank you for your time making these videos, I love it. Its full of good tips and techniques. Im still very much a beginner and you inspire me. Great to learn from a professional artist!
I’m doing this picture for the fourth time tonight. It’s still nothing like yours. But I like my sky and bushes at least on this attempt. 😳. You make it look so easy. Your instructions are very clear so here’s hoping I get a good tree eventually.
Brilliant tutorial Charles, what a brilliant painting with the watercolour pencils, you are a star,. I,m getting a couple of your books for Xmas , can’t wait for Xmas,😂stay safe,.😘😘👏😘
Wow Have started following you, what a fantastic steady way of showing how to do it,, You have just shown me how to use my watercolour pencils properly :) Love your work, and will keep following you :)
Thanks for a lovely demo. Your book and watching you got me using my watercolor pencils, I love them. When I dont feel like setting up my bigger palette, scribbling with my pencils is so satisfying. Thanks for sharing your expertise
This is a fascinating video on the way to use watercolor pencils thank you, as a person that has come back to art now that I have retired I am exploring a number of options but watercolor is still my personal favourite medium. Finding that these pencils can be used this way is fantastic. Will be investing in a new set of pencils very soon. Do have a very cheap limited set which will do for now. Love your demonstrations and the way you explain everything thank you for these videos, of to the easel to have a crack and experiment with pens and watercolor pencils.
Out come the watercolour pencils which just happen to be Lyra bought 26 years ago at an art show. They haven't been used as much as they should have been but your demo shows a different way of using them which I like.Cheers Charles for that.
Nice one. I have not tried the pencils yet, but right off the reel that tip about scratching in the sky part and leaving lines, that’s good. I know that I would have begun by scratching it in dry instead of taking it from the pencil with a brush. As winter approaches all these good free instructions are very good. Thank you.
Hi Charles I’ve just purchased a set of 12 pencils from you and am looking forward to using them I am using Derwents at the moment and the Lyra look far superior and some of the colours look very vibrant

Do these pencils come in a left handed version haha I think that’s my problem

I think I mentioned in the video several times that they are Lyra pencils.
@@charlesevans7706 Thank u so much Sir.
This is the second video of yours I have viewed Charles - I could sit and watch them all day - fantastic and so helpful.
just a quick question. I had a go at your mountains and lake watercolour pencil exercise and drew the mountains by "rough" colouring in on dry paper as you did (the same techniques as when you applied the yellow and brown for the field and tree in this picture) but then when I applied water with the brush the colours didn't really flow and merge like yours did - the scribbled lines were still visible. Why might this be? I am using a very cheap set (only £3 as i have never tried this sort of thing before) of Daler Rowney Simply pencils - might this be the issue?
