    Your image of a mega pack for the inverter section is Mega pack 1 which did have a stack of inverters hooked to a common DC bus, Mega pack2 puts these with each battery module and thus has a common AC link in the cabinet. Look at video from Lathrop, Three bus bars. Also look at first responder guide for MP1 vs MP 2 shows MP1 with batteries that output DC but MP2 battery modules output 480VAC meaning all power electronics are with each battery module. Simplifies protection and adds even more redundancy. Plus these 162kwh/ 80kw battery + power electronics are very mass producible and can rack into a MP faster then MP1 battery plus individual inverter slices.

    Just a FYI, a device that converts AC to DC. is a rectifier. A device that converts DC to AC is an inverter. A megapack would have to have a device that performs both functions. Most EVs have an onboard rectifier that converts the AC coming from the wall to DC for the battery. An EV also has an onboard inverter that converts the DC from the battery to AC for the motors. A super charger provides DC directly to the battery in the car substituting the rectifier in the car with a bigger one in the super charger. I understand that most people don't know the difference and really don't care. That's ok. :)

    That first major power backup Tesla installed in Australia a few years ago was game changer in my opinion. I don’t know if Tesla made money on that, but what they did get is great PR. Since then countries like California ( joke ) have realized just how economical and instant power on demand they are. I’m sure many of the viewers here have heard that Tesla Energy could very well become bigger and more profitable that Tesla auto. And I would agree….. One example is the Philippines. They have brown outs on a regular basis. With some of these mega packs brownouts would be a thing of the past.

      Much of SE Asia is the same as indeed much of the world. Indonesia seems pretty keen as does Mexico. Both these vast regions would see a massive increase in the standard of living for everyone. If he's going to build cars then it would create lots of jobs all down the line. Good stuff and he's going to use local South American minerals because he obviously will build batteries. Break ground March 1st on both locations. Get battery production up and running toot sweet because the Megapack effectively negates the possibility of overstock. This would please the shareholders because profits would go through the roof and it would also have a positive effect on society. Good for Elon and good for the brand name.

    • @Steppenkater
      @Steppenkater Год назад +1

      A rectifier converts AC to DC but doesn't change voltage level which the Tesla Megapack is doing for sure. Let's call it "converter" for both cases (in and out) :)

    • @soundslight7754
      @soundslight7754 Год назад +1

      @@Steppenkater It's complicated! Let's say it depends who is talking. Those of us with engineering and technology education know the difference.
      For example a Tesla car can accept AC to charge up, energy stored in batteries hence DC and the car propulsion, speed regulation and control requires 3-phase AC. In simple terms: AC - DC - AC
      A Tesla Megapack gets and supplies AC, therefore again it has both rectifiers and inverters inside it.
      Please note "A rectifier converts AC to DC but doesn't change voltage level..." isn't strictly true - it does change the voltage level as it needs some voltage difference to operate

    The new Sodium battery hybrids coming soon will bring these megapack prices down even further making them even more cost effective to install and were you aware that the Tesla Powerwall software not only manages your solar charging but it sells your spare solar energy and pays you for it. It's an incentive initially designed to support matching commercial solar with storage (i.e. Megapack) . The IRA has expanded this credit to any grid storage system that supports renewables or grid stability. There seems to be an ITC/IRA requirement that battery storage must use US manufactured batteries. If Tesla is importing LFP cells for cars and Megapacks because there are no domestic LFP battery manufacturers, will they qualify for the credit?
