Good Morning Y'all ☕️! You know you're a Close Nit Family when you can discuss RV poop odors 😂! I remember back in the day when we would keep a box of kitchen matches in the bathroom! Now they have Poo-Pourri and other odor-masking products on the market, but nothing works better than the good 'ole Fan-tastic Fan to completely exhaust the stink bomb😂! I'm going to give Tom's black and grey tanks methods a try too! Interesting theory which makes sense to me too! Thanks for the tips and safe travels y'all ☕️!
Great reminder and I also use DampRid around my home and it collects humidity especially when you have window air unites. I do agree that fresh air is better. Thanks and hope your having fun. When I was a ACE hardware I saw the perlites that you use in the bar be que thing that you have and thought of you. Take care and Love y'all
Hey Leann! We had good experience with DampRid removing extra moisture. It was amazing how much water it would collect. Hope you're having a great Sunday!
I recommend "Happy Campers" tank treatment for both the Black and Gray tanks. Happy Campers will not harm the tank sensor probes (if you have them) also will not harm the gate valve seal. If you store the coach for months at a time, I also recommend pore RV antifreeze in the P-traps. The RV antifreeze tends not to evaporate as quick as just water.
thanks for the tips! my wife and I just went full time and are loving it. Something we use to help with black tank odors is after emptying the tank and flushing it I put a little water in the tank and pour about a cup of borax in the tank, best thing ever its cheap and totally works! its a cleaner, deodorizer and water softener.
Need to get a camco part # 40595 cyclone sewer plumbing vent. It uses the wind to draw the smells out of the tank. Also the fan is great but do not have it on when you flush toilet. What happens is the fan creates negative pressure and draws vapor smell into the rv when you flush. Turn the fan on after you leave and make sure to leave water in toilet bowl that covers flush valve. Just a few more suggestions from an old rver. Great video about a stinky subject.
Great video and tips! Our bath fan is not a fantastic fan but it does a great job moving the air out. We also use Poo-Pourri or something similar. No odor issues at all.
Hello! Loved this video, great tip on using the dishwasher detergent! Thank you! We took a pool noodle sliced a piece out just wide enough to slide under the bathroom door, it helps keep the smell inside the bathroom and up and out the fan. 👍🏻 it makes for a more pleasant living arrangement. We recently had to replace our water pump, upon investigation as to why it failed, our repair people discovered we had an issue with algae growing in our fresh water tank. 🤢. Thankfully we never use that water for drinking. Did you know these holding tanks are *not BPA approved? Glad we own a Berkey. We often use bottled water. Right now we have algicide breaking down and killing the algae, giving that a few days then will be flushing the tank several times and adding bleach to the water anytime we do fill it. Keep a watch for this it was pretty upsetting, the algae was a pretty serious matter, that clogged the lines and caused the water pump to fail as well as the circuit board.
We put 2 oz of RV DigestIt down the toilet, with a couple gallons of water, after every black tank dump. That stuff is amazing. I’m told it can go in the gray tank as well, though I haven’t tried it yet.
Hi Tom And Stacie, Thank you for all the good education and advice always helpful. I use a little Dawn dish soap in the toilet after flushing and it puts soapy water in the tank never had any issues. Thanks for your funny approach to this situation. You guys are both fun... Happy Thanksgiving friends, wishing you guys a Blessed continue travels.. Your doing an excellent job building your channel. Don
You've cracked the case, Tom! The Thinker is really just an external expression of Rodin's deepest pondering: "Do I leave the grey tank constantly open, or do I just dump it every few days?" 😂😂😂 Thanks for the videos and hard work, y'all. We always appreciate your efforts! P.S. Even though I'm a Cardinals fan, I was rooting for ya in the Series!
I always take a paper towel and wipe the excess food off of my pots and pans and dishes before washing them. I try not to put any food scraps into the grey tank, because decomposing food can be awfully stinky.
We use Happy Campers in our black tank & always clean it out really well.... after our last clean before leaving we add a few gallons of water with happy camper... while driving it will slouse around & clean more.... never had an odor issue....I believe public toilets are the worst
May I ask a question what's the best odor eliminator and waste digestor to put in your black tanks because I use is biodegradable stuff and it just stays in the room with the smell and stuff and it just bothers me. What's a good odor eliminator and waste digester solution
First and foremost, Tom has always said his #2 doesn’t stink! When I want to freshen the air in our RV and our home I’ll boil orange peels. Thanks for tackling the tough issues.
I always use the chemicals (enzymes) for each grey and black. Tanks are empty when I store which eliminates smells. I always wait until I have a full "load" before dumping. Always put a bunch of water in each tank when putting the chemicals in, that way the enzymes are hydrated before eating. I'm more worried about the formaldehyde smells.
Smells in the RV? Open the windows. I'm glad I have you to tell me these things. LOL. Don't get me wrong. You have a fine channel. Have you considered upgrading to a composting toilet? I'm strongly considering upgrading that way.
The P-trap in the RV servers the same purpose as a house, preventing sewer gas from coming up into the house/RV. I still use "happy camper" tank treatment. I never understood the idea of keeping grey value open. I use the water from it to clean the hose after dumping the black tank.
So, a dehumidifier only removes moisture from the air. It doesn't solve whatever is causing the odors. I'm not even sure it does anything for the odor itself. It wasn't designed to. As far as the closing the grey water tanks and flushing the black tank, that's much appreciated advice.
I have a fantastic fan in my bathroom, However, when I turn it on, it pulls air from the laundry room which is located in the bedroom and the odor from the washer drain is horrendous.. I've tried everything from using washing machine cleaner to Borax. Any ideas about what I can do?
It could be odors coming from the grey tank. Try putting hot water and some gel dishwashing detergent into your grey tank before you go on your next trip. As you drive, the water and soap will slosh around and clean your grey tank. Dump when you get to your next campground. We use Cascade Complete ( amzn.to/3ks47Th ) and it seems to really take care of grey tank odors that come up from our shower from time to time.
Fantastic fan eh? All I've got is this little 4 inch fan in my bathroom. It doesn't even have a shroud. Most of the air blown from the fan bounces off the screen. Time to upgrade.

Yikes! So sorry that happened to y'all Marie! We absolutely agree with the importance of keeping your fresh water tank fresh.

Great point! Thanks! We agree 100%. We wipe everything off with paper towels also.
good job

LOL Greg! Bet those orange peels smell good. We'll have to give that a try.

LOL. I don't think a composting toilet is in our future.

The dehumidifier doesn’t control odors just takes the moisture out of air, sorry for the confusion! Thanks
Can you use pooperi (the spray before you go stuff) in RV toilets? Will it hurt the septic system? Thank you the helpful tips! 😘
Good question. We're not sure since we've never used it. We try not to spray anything in the RV since sprays tend to fill up a small space fast.
We use it all the time, no problem. We also spray WD40 inside the toilet bowl it helps the waste slide out easily.
I have a fantastic fan in my bathroom, However, when I turn it on, it pulls air from the laundry room which is located in the bedroom and the odor from the washer drain is horrendous.. I've tried everything from using washing machine cleaner to Borax. Any ideas about what I can do?

It has made a huge difference in our RVs.
What kind of fire extinguisher should you have in an rv?
Hi Erik. We have ABC extinguishers.
How to get rid of musty smell in camper
We just open the windows & let the outside in!
Hi Tom & Staci.
Hi Ty! 👋
Thank you. :-)) :-))
You’re welcome! 😁
What about baking soda?
We use baking soda in our refrigerator, Robert. Do you use it in other ways?
Took out the cheap bathroom vent fan and installed a Fantastic Fan. Problem solved.
We agree Norman!
Do you put some water in the toilet before you do your business?
Yes we do
* Great info.........we use dehumidifier also............your not a plumber?..........come on.....you can do anything!*
LOL! Almost! 😂
