    Hi, best review I have seen on the amazing class 37 locomotive, the dash lights are superb along with the sound, I’m sure Accurascale can produce an add on motorised unit that can be fitted to this loco, as far as I’m concerned it an ultra detailed model, Hornby’s class 37 is so inferior it’s not funny, for £75ish more you can get this work of art, it’s a no brainier in my opinion, thanks for sharing.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад

      Yes the dash lights are very cool, especially given that the overall cab lights would be turned off when running. And like I said in the video, Accurascale are looking at possibly motorising the fans for Run 3 and beyond. I think it's just the extra tooling costs that need to be figured out and how much that would impact the price of the model.
      The Hornby Class 37 is pretty old now, it's been relegated to a Railroad model hasn't it? There is also the recent Bachmann Class 37 as well but like I said in the video it is more expensive so I think the Accurascale version sits in really nice middle position in terms of price. Thanks for watching 😃

  • @nigelweir3852
    @nigelweir3852 Год назад +1

    This is by far the best value loco, sound and without on the market . Puts Hornby and Bachman’s in the shade , now they could be the new kids on the block but along with their original format of Irish model railways they have now got a range of models diesel, wagons and soon steam to make their future look bright

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад

      I almost don't think it's fair on Accurascale to say they're the new kids anymore. • @tjfSIM
    @tjfSIM Год назад

    It's wonderful to see the easy access to the decoder fitting. I've just had to take apart their Class 92 to fit a decoder, and that was a very nerve wracking and unpleasant process. If manufacturers are going to continue to add such fine detailing parts to the models, it's essential that body removal and DCC decoder installation are factored in.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад

      Yes I appreciated the easy access too. I think for me I worry more about diesels because they often rely on clips holding the body to the chassis. One wrong move and you could break a clip or crack the body but if you're too tentative it doesn't want to budge. This Class 37 aside, I much prefer the steam engines where often you just remove a couple of screws and the whole body lifts off! Thanks for watching 😃

    • @tjfSIM
      @tjfSIM Год назад

      @@ThatModelRailwayGuy Exactly right. I always hate 'clips' and much prefer screws. It just feels wrong to be bending the plastic, and as you say there is always that worry about breaking something. I bought one of the Dapol Class 73s and have had nothing but problems with it - and there is so much fine detail attached to the bogies and chassis that it's virtually impossible to remove the body without breaking something. It's ridiculous.

    You should do diesels more often! It does look impressive. My class 37 is Bachmanns previous tooling, and its fine, and so I can't really justify buying this right now. But I have Accurascales Deltic, and if this is anything like that, it seems a winner. Thanks for the vid - great to watch

      I may have another Accurascale diesel on Pre-Order so I'll definitely be featuring that in the future! I do think it's an interesting point though that, with the detail on locos getting better with each iteration, the actual upgrade over the previous model does get smaller each time.
      I wonder if we're about to hit a ceiling for what can be achieved on 00 Gauge, which is perhaps why manufacturers are looking more to add extras such as working fans, lights and smoke generators. Thanks for watching 😃

    Nice and useful review.
    I'm mainly a steam fan but as a kid I also had a couple of early BR diesels and wanted something similar for my current layout. However I wanted a modern model that was DCC ready and with working lights.
    I looked at the Hornby Railroad diesels but they're VERY basic and most don't have working lights. Bachmann's latest efforts look good, but are VERY expensive and at the end of the day I could get a couple of pre-owned steam locos I like more for the same money. Whilst I've never owned a Hejan they don't have a great rep. Dapol look good in most regards, but I've heard of quite a few people having issues with their motors apparently dropping off in performance quite quickly. This puts me off as a good and reliable mechanism that lasts is the priority in my book.
    I don't have any Accurascale models yet, but have only heard good things about them so far. £170 is still a lot of money for something I still consider a 'Box on wheels' compared to a beautiful steam engine, but nonetheless I've taken the plunge and ordered a class 37 in BR green with yellow ends. Based on your review it looks like a good decision.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад +1

      Amazing! I'm definitely with you in the "steam fan camp" but as far as model diesels go I think you've made a great choice with going for Accurascale. They've really come out of the gate swinging with their first few releases and have given the big names something to worry about with the amount of detail/features they're able to include at such a competitive price.
      Fingers crossed it's not too long until the BR Green 37s are released and maybe in the meantime it might be worth taking a look at their GWR Manor which is supposedly coming soon too! Thanks for watching 😃

      @@ThatModelRailwayGuy Yes the Manors look very good too, the liveries I like best have sold out, but hopefully they'll do a second run.
      As for diesels I'd also like a class 47. Bachmann's latest tooling looks very good, but I'll wait until I see one on the second hand market. I might go for one of Accurascale Deltics from the second run as well.

    Great review, thanks. I have just received mine (with sound) and have discovered (as others have) that you have to run it in without sound before the sound works. When I first got it the sound kept cutting out until I found another video on here describing how the running in process fixes, what I assume, is a common issue.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад

      That's really interesting. I can't say I'd heard of anyone else having that issue before making this video, and obviously this sample had been well run in before it made it's way to me.
      I'm curious as to why that would be the case though. The running in process is usually to bed in the mechanism/motor but the speaker shouldn't need that. Hopefully it's just something simple like a slight film on the wheels that wears off and allows the full power to get through. Thanks for watching 😃

      Yes the dim lights would be my main criticism but like I said, possibly easy to adjust with a CV change. I wouldn't knock the sound until you've heard it in person though. As I mentioned in the video, it all depends on the mic used to record it, the placement of that mic in relation to the loco and the audio compression RUclips puts on the file when uploaded. What will also make a big difference is what speakers/headphones you're listening on.
      I will say that, in the room, it was very impressive and didn't sound tinny at all. The speaker is one of the best I've heard (my Bachmann Class 47 is the only thing that comes close in my opinion) and the base rumble was literally shaking the baseboards in the fiddle yard when I first turned it on 😅 Thanks for watching 👍

      I can't really pass proper judgement on the Bachmann version as I haven't had any hands on experience with it. However I will say that looking at photos I would (personally) disagree with some of your points and, if the forums are to be believed, there are other modellers out there who would feel the same.
      That said, it's all down to personal preference, the only thing you can say for certain is that the price of the Accurascale version is cheaper but it certainly doesn't feel like an inferior product to me. Thanks for watching 😃

Looking forward to seeing progress at the end of the week on your layout! Also, I have heard that the new Bachmann one doesn’t run as smooth at the really slow speeds as the new one. The Accurascale one looks super smooth, but I would be curious to see how it is on standard DC. If it’s up to the same standard as the rest of the model though, I imagine it would be good, as the slow speed on DC was definitely the weakest point of the Bachmann, again going by what I’ve heard.

    Very nice loco. Which one are you going to be buying? I was tempted to buy the class 37 but I've opted to get the Class 66 next year from Accurascale as it fits more my interest.

      I've got my eye on one of the BR Green ones currently with the head code box... I think those are in the second run due next year. Awesome, the Class 66 is a really interesting project with giving new life to the already good Hattons tooling. I'm interested to see how it goes. Thanks for watching 😃

    Not enough detail for me, for example how much does it actually weigh and what about its pulling power? It looks nice enough and the detachable roof feature must be the way forward.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад

      The weight is around 640g-650g so pretty heavy. I wasn't able to test it with a train as there were no couplings with this particular model but with that weight I have no doubt that it would be fine with the sots of trains most modellers run. Thanks for watching 👍

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад

      Yes and with the sound versions needing more power too it's very useful for just general running too. As it's quite a long loco it could be considered overkill but it's really nice of Accurascale to include it as standard. Thanks for watching 😃

    I realise I seem to be in a minority on this, but it just doesn't sound like a Class 37 to me. Apart from the sound though, it's an absolutely brilliant loco

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад

      Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I would be very surprised if Accurascale hadn't recorded in actual 37 for the sound project though, considering they've been working in co-operation with some of the groups. Thanks for watching 😃

    It's a shame the roof fan grill looks as if it's about to come off and it doesn't do any justice to the magnificent relief it actually has compared to the Bachmann pancake.
    I think when companies send off loco's to be reviewed they should ensure everything is properly intact otherwise people's views of the model may end up less than favourable.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад

      Yes a little bit of a shame but a lot more noticeable in the extreme close ups than it was in reality. Just to be clear, Accurascale didn't send this out as a review sample and they didn't ask me to do a review. They just sent me one of the early production samples to have a play with once they were done testing it. I imagine when the magazines get sent review samples they will be perfect. Thanks for watching 😃

    lovely loco but omg that sound decoder sounds really bad the TTS decoder sounds better if that was my loco i would put a Zimo sound decoder in it with double base speaker like my class 68

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад

      Like I said in the video, you can't really judge the sound quality based on the video as it all depends on the room, the microphone used, the distance to the loco, RUclips's audio processing... the list goes on.
      What I will say is that the huge bass speaker in this is the most impressive I've ever heard in a loco, it was literally vibrating the baseboards in the fiddle yard at one point. I'd definitely recommend hearing one in person if you can before making any judgements. Thanks for watching 😃

    Quite a number of issues with people who have bought accurascale 37 model…. Checkout out RUclips for issues…

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  8 месяцев назад

      I wouldn't say there's a "number of issues". There's a small but vocal minority who had some problems (as is always the way) if you go looking for them but generally most people have been happy with their models.
      After all wasn't the 37 awarded the Best 00 Loco of 2023 in Hornby Magazine, BRM and Model Rail... these were all public votes.
      If anyone does have problem with their Class 37 (or any loco for that matter) I always recommend talking to the manufacturer about it. Accurascale in particular have very good support, especially now with their Lifetime Guarantee. Thanks for watching 😃
