Cutjack Mini isn't as flipping good as the Modus, disassembly.

I too have this knife with a very stiff flipper tab..after disassembly I greased the stop pin and oiled the track where the track pin travels..world of difference ! One tip I got from Nick, is to have the blade half way out when you tighten the pivot screw, perfect centering..I didn’t bother taking out the backspacer screws either..they just spun..and mine came with zero locktight..they must be lining to their customers..

Might I suggest you invest in a small can of Aluminum Oxide lapping compound, in the 700 to 1200 grit range. Aluminum Oxide because it will cut/polish a wide variety of metals, up to around a Rc62 hardness. A little goes a long way, and it will quickly surface mate axial thrust washer surfaces... removing burrs and high spots that can cause blade drag and bind. Cheers

I’ve had this knife for two months took it apart used Flitz to polish up all of the friction points, reassembled using Vibra Tite and have been carrying it quite a bit. Flipping has gotten much better with use. What I would like on this knife is a deep carry clip. I love the blade shape and may get either the larger 3.5 model or the Modus (don’t like sheep head blades)

I think the problem with mine was the stop pin on the blade rides in that plastic track. Seemed like after I flipped it for a while it it kinda rubbed it smooth as weird as that sounds. But I hope it gets better....

My cutjack has gotten better with use. It's has a pretty smooth action now and will drop close.

You could try polishing the bronze washers to smooth it out. The ApostleP has a video about doing that to the washers in a Sabenza and he uses a strop with green compound to do the trick.

You guys cost me money.. I decided to order an Modus from Blade HQ.. OMG the dang thing is soo smooth and it was sharp as hell out of the box and mine is "smooth" in deploying without any tinkering.... a new favorite with the rotation. :-)

Got the Cutjack Mini from BladeHQ. It flips and closes very smoothly. It’s a very good fidget flipper. I guess I lucked out. The flipping action is not as strong as the Modus, though.

A tip fpr making knives smoother use 800 fallowed by 1500 then 3000 and finally 7000 grit wet and dry paper on the bronz washers and the flats they sit on on the blade and frame .it will mirror polish it making it self lubricating basicly .tje problem woth any oil is it will collect dirt .smooth dry opperation lasts longer but takes more maintenance. Thats all .less oil is better i add a drop to tissue paper then wipe the parts so its a nano amount on the surface so aa to collect as little dirt as possable slowing everything down .love you vids guys keep it up

I've had a D2 Cutjack for months as a daily beater.. It's cut tons of cardboard.. I make waking sticks and have used it to strip off inner/outer bark on a bunch of sticks.. It's still sharp.. It's definetly not 8CR or AUS8.. I'm sure it's D2...
The question about the D2 is with the Bestech knives.. I've read and seen people say they have problems with the edges just chipping out.. It seems like it might be with early Bestech knives..

Good job guys. I'm hearing that there seems to be inconsistencies in tolerances, etc. knife-to-knife in the Chinese Cutjacks. Mine is just fine (for $40) but it did get better after a break in period. Hope you're staying warm. : )

What do you guys think of small scratches on knifes? I dropped my delica 4 the other and was pretty upset when I found a scuff mark on the frn Handel. Do you think I should buff it out or just ignore it? I know a knife is a tool I’m just a little paranoid about stuff ! What’s your opinion?

Hmmm very interesting. I recently bought a modus in D2 and I’m pretty pleased with it (I still think the RATs are much better despite how most seem to feel). My modus is pretty snappy and drop shutty, haven’t taken it apart yet. I am interested in the D2 in these, especially with Pete’s test of the “M390” (hopefully it was just a bad knife or a bad batch but I guess we’ll find out). As for now, the RAT 1 is still my go to budget folder.

So Locktite has a "stick" version of it's blue compound. Aside from ease of application, is there a curing period at all? Is this something you are just trying out or have you been using it for sometime and consider it your main threadlocker? Anyway, good video. I enjoiyed the teardown and the TLC given to the knife, which really did improve the action, based I what I could see. Nicely done!

My little brother just bought the modus. I thought it was just a hair too small. Do you have any experience with the full size cutjack?
I need a new "beater" knife (I don't abuse my knives at all, just need one that I don't really gotta "worry" about using for harder stuff). My Razel and my Rat 1 have seen better days, and I just don't feel like my Rat 2 is large or burly enough for extended harder use.
So I guess I'm asking: Large Cutjack? Or is the Modus just better overall?

  • @mt_baldwin

Yes it is D2. It corrodes like d2 and acts like it in use and sharpening, If it isn't D2 then it's another steel that acts just like it in all its positives and negatives. This "controversy" probably started shortly after Pete did his rope cut test on the m390 modus and it failed miserably, in the comments there people were already questioning the d2 version even tho they're made by different oem manufacturers on different continents.

My D2 Cutjack was sluggish at first, totally disappointed after EVERYONE was saying that the action was excellent. After a couple months of use, it got a lot smoother. As far as whether it is D2 or not, i have kept the factory edge on it and only strop it every once in a while. Bought in June, still sharp. It also has developed a slight patina. I am no expert, but it behaves like other D2 I have from companies I am confident in (Benchmade).
I figured the controversy would be over the Steel Will M390 after Cedric & Ada's cut test, not the D2.

Gun clothes in million packs? That would be useful.
I'll say this though, I won an Amazon give away, for 100,000 zip ties. It sounds funny and all... But I've zip tied everything. My dog, my woman, my car... I have zip ties on things that should never be zip tied. I haven't even dented the first 1000 pack. I still have well over 99,000 zip ties. So laugh it up about your gun cloths... Because zip ties, are no joke.

Pug hairs are like sand at beach campouts - they get in EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING. Sand gets in the most tightly-sealed things, like cameras. No light can get it. You would assume no sand could either. WRONG!
Pug hairs may start out in various parts of the house, but not to worry: though you swept and vacuumed ferociously in the daytime, at night while you sleep they will crawl towards each other, and by morning they will be in several big clumps. In the shadows where no light reaches. They will never clump up where bright spots of sunshine fall on the floor. NOOOOOO!

My female iguana died a couple weeks before I loved to NM. I buried her near the garden out back. One day about 3 years later I opened the front door for a weather check, and at the threshhold there was stuck a little piece of molted skin with the chitin-like covering of one claw attached. It's still a head-shaker today.

I think the phosphor bronze bushings need to wear a little bit. Then you'll see gradual improvement. My Lone Wolf Harsey T2 was pretty decent out of the box, but it's improved with age. If you get good ones I don't think you'd ever have to replace them in the course of a lifetime. Beyond that, who knows? I sure won't. I've had it somewhere around 15 years and it's a champ.
DAMN Benchmark to HELL for buying Lone Wolf just to let them die. I hope the Sleep Hag sits on their chests every single night until THEY die~
