  • Senator Murphy on Sunday, February 11, joined CBS News' Face the Nation to discuss Republicans blocking a bipartisan deal to help fix the asylum system and deliver aid to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and Gaza, and prospects for passing a national security supplemental this week.
Murphy also discussed the Biden Administration's efforts to reduce civilian casualties in Gaza and pushed back on Special Counsel Robert Hur's report.

I’m glad Biden put out the foreign aid accountability memo, but I would still like Congress to act so it applies to all administrations.

It sounds like you’re more concerned about Ilegals than Americans and taxpayers.
Maybe you need to go back and re-read the Oath you Swore to when you were Sworn in to Office. Read it closely this time.

When Donald Trump mistook E. Jean Carroll for his wife during that deposition, I didn't hear one member of the press report about it.

Senator, I saw your chat with Brian Tyler Cohen, and you referred to China "expanding their boundaries". Congress passed military aid for Taiwan. ... The Japanese returned Taiwan after invading, understanding that it was part of China. After the Guomindang lost the "Chinese Civil War" (not the "China-Taiwan War"), they tried to claim that Taiwan held the Capitol of CHINA. Why? Because they understood that it was all One Nation. The entire world rejected that, including the US, because just like how our Confederates could never have claimed victory, the Guomindang could not, either. The entire world accepted the One China Policy, and that Beijing was the Capitol. This is not Chinese propaganda, this is all just boring, historical fact. Well, maybe not boring if you like History.
The Taiwanese people largely speak Mandarin Chinese, just like mainlanders. Sure, they also have their own dialect, Hokkien, but so do Fujianese, the Cantonese of Hong Kong, and many others. Beijing's accent is difficult to understand with lots of "r" sounds, and the Shanghai accent often combines "shi" and "si" sounds. Having a dialect in China is normal. Well, what about ethnicity? Ethnically, almost all Taiwanese are Han or have a lot of Han ancestry, just like most mainlanders.
So, the Taiwanese have historically accepted that they are Chinese, was returned to China after the constantly-invading-everyone Japanese returned Taiwan, are ethnically Chinese, speak Chinese, and was internationally accepted as Chinese via the One China Policy.
So why are we spending $5 billion to send military aid to Taiwan? What, because a bunch of DC war hawks want to provoke Beijing for whatever reason? Seriously, our relationship with China has been mutually beneficial, and we're perfectly fine with buying cheap shht from them. Maybe we should repay all of our debt they hold, instead of making them out to be an enemy?
We can do beneficial things, like help the Uyghurs, by tying conditional trade upon Beijing's better treatment of their minorities, and also by tying it to more open society that Taiwan promotes.
I'm going to copy-paste my message across a few of your videos, hoping you might see this and have rational conversations with others in government, and maybe change your guy's views and start relaying reality to news actors during your guy's interviews.

What about the laws that are already in place? Immigration laws have been in place for decades in America. Mainly to control diseases. What has changed? Elections.

In the 1930s we were too reluctant to get involved with Europe again. If we had been more helpful in Spain, we could have stopped Franco and Hitler in Guernica in 1936, and saved millions of lives by avoiding World War Two and the debilitating rise of Fascism. There are too many parallels now to our behaviors in the 1930s. And we don't even have the excuse of the Great Depression now. Everyone needs to reread the chapters on the 1930s in their social studies textbook! Pay attention to history.

Grown ups know how to compromise and cooperate. Let's try that again. Let's teach the lessons of cooperation and compromise in kindergarten; let's hold all of our politicians to that standard in legislation.
Thank you, Senator Murphy. Please continue to work on immigration legislation because working with immigration legislation from the 1980s and 1990s is obviously not working. Don't give up, please.
We will give you the congressional majorities you need at the ballot box: 60 Senators, regain the House majority. Looking forward to getting things done. Voters, our turn to step up. 🗽💙🌊🗽
