How to Build a Hoophouse

- Learn how to extend your growing season by building an easy, inexpensive, and effective hoophouse. We use four of these on our farm and move each one to two locations during the growing season. In the early spring we grow lettuce, broccoli, greens and potatoes in them and in the summer we grow tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, and peppers in them. These are a huge benefit to our farm in our cool climate! For a materials list and written instructions visit our blog: simplegiftsfarm.net/how-to-bui...

This has to be one of the most practical hoop house videos on RUclips. Simple, practical, and budget conscience.
Thank you for not including annoying background music. Wonderful video.
You are the reason why I start to make one new greenhouse not so big but I start to install one new ydroponic greenhouse with your help and with your ideas. Thanks from Athens Greece you help me very much.
I have watched dozens of videos with all sorts of elaborate PVC designs, none of which was particularly simple or versatile, nor were any of them as detailed as yours. Bunching up the plastic on each end is genius, as is your use of ropes and stakes in various spots on the hoophouse. I also appreciated the practics of setting up and tearing down for year in and out usage. But I literally laughed out loud when you introduced your ventilation system! Love it!
Thank you so much for taking the time to produce this video. It was just what the farmer ordered! Cheers! Alan
Made it simple to understand and build. Anyone could do it and make whatever changes they want to it. love it man, have a great grow.
Takes real intelligence to make something so simple. Impressed.
Your definitely the real deal...Loved the precise simplicity of what you've shown here...Two thumbs up and I give you guys a five out of five star rating for your video...And my personal thank you for posting!
Thank you for this video so much. Wish I had found it sooner. You really made my day!
Really nice, strait to the point, my greenhouse will be made by your specifications, here in South Africa.
Thanks brother!
Thanks! This made me feel like I can do this. Easy to understand, simple design. Great video.
BEST video instructions, I found it late but not too late to use your techniques and specifications. Endless thanks with huge big hearts from my family :))
that was a great tutorial mate.. straightforward..and doable
My goodness you look like a giant when your adorable son comes into the frame. Thanks
Good learning and great that you show us fathers how to make a good citizen by example.
Great temporary setup for anyone trying to over winter plants or get a head start on the season!
i am impressed with your genius creativity. Bingo!!!!!
Nice job an I was impressed with your little helper picking up the tube an placing on the rebar then putting his weight on it to pull it down nice to see the younger gen do that
Awesome def. taking ideas from this video and applying it to my first hoop house I build. Thanks
loved it. Thanks
Great video, thanks for taking the time to share!
Great simple common sense design that anyone can implement. Love this.
Very good work! Well done! Got and best helper !!

Fantastic. thank you for sharing.👍👍👍
very nice and simple thanks for sharing this
I'd like to borrow your son to help this old lady in the yard. He's a good little helper!
I'm going to try this so I can extend my flower farming business. Best one I've found yet!
Well done. Nice video.
Very helpful, thank you!
clever guy. useful. thanks
ACCIDENTALLY Built a hoop just like it but forgot to tie the first tube duh. had everything else exactly the same, when i get home I'm fixing mine. thanks man.
boy!!!! cool!!!!!!!!!! nice information.....................
Great Ideal
Nice work and cute baby
Thanks, you used least amt of material and made the most amt of sense!
this guy is so cool!
I'm going to do this .. thanks buddy.
great job
Really elegant design, very inspiring. We are wanting to use the same type of two-bed tunnels to harvest a wide variety of greens through a Pennsylvania winter. I wonder if we could use our tomato stakes as vertical supports when dealing with snow load..The wind is not so bad. I'd love to get away with using such a light material as 1" PVC. Thanks for your work.
is a good iedia. .
thank you .
Thanks, super 👍🏻
I love the baby helping this is a real education. better than all the crap they learn in school
I know right cause math and since was a waste of my time.
That's a fair point! Coming from someone who graduated with a B.S. in biochemistry, it's pretty shocking how many college grads are inept at solving basic problems that require mechanical inclination.
Also, pdsavage, if you are going to tout the wonders of education, you may want to consider using proper grammar and punctuation. Just a thought.
And it appears English was a waste of your time also.
Michelle Gervais Wow! Baby.
Wesołych Świąt od jerry do wszystkich moich fanów
Good job......
Good info
that is easy one... thanks
too cute kids are so loyal
Thanks for the video. I followed the instruction to build a small hoop in my garden. I used a 4 mil. plastic because I want to grow sun loving vegetables, i.e. zucchini, okra, etc. I notice the 4 or 6 mil. plastic is not as transparent as the commercial grade sheeting. Do you think it allows enough sunlight in? Do you have to lift up one side of the sheeting once a while to let in more sunlight?
Nice Family.. thanks
Its awsum
Great video. What's the name of the knot you are using on the side?
thanks
nice!
muito bom chique
Thanks, very cheap ,i will do
Love the concept, but we're having our first wind storm, and don't think this design will work for us. What types of winds do you have where you are, and how do you deal with them? Are you using steel or PVC for the hoops? Thanks!
Any wind issues? Here where i live this would fly away like a kite...
2:05 "it really helps to have two people to help, it adds a little more strength " as the kid is struggling lmao
Super
Is it safe to build in heavy wind and strom prone agriculture field?
Good
What's the spacing on the rebar?
What length are those conduits
You say you use 1" PVC conduit and that they are pre-bent. Do they need to be pre-bent or can you bend them to install without pre-bending? Also, how do you "pre-bend" them? Thanks for any clues! Great design by the way! -John
Actually, they were not pre-bent when we first used them, the only reason the ones in the video are already bent is because we used them the previous year. They do not need to be pre-bent as they are easy to bend into place, especially if you have two adults setting it up.
+Simple Gifts Farm what schedule pvc was used? We are being told by local hardware stores that schedule 40 & schedule 80 & conduit can not be bent.
Patti Rosenswie I am a retired electrician. I have installed 1000s of feet of pvc conduit. both 40 and 80 can be bent. we typically make bends up to 90 degrees by heating the conduit. that is not required for this project because there is enough flex to get the bend required for a hoop house.
Link does not work. What is the length on the pvc conduit please?
HELLO SIR I AM VERY INTERESTED DOING SOME FARMING ON MY PROPERTY IN NORTHERN ONTARIO ANYWAYS JUST SEEING WHAT YOU AND YOUR LITTLE FAMILY CAN DO I THINK I WILL MAKE IT THANKS FOR POSTING AND GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY MANY MANY THANKS
how long are the plastic pipes.
Are those 2 10 ft pieces?
Super easy to construct... yet you didn't show the entrance and how you wnywr and exit and how do you go about
We just lifted the side to go in and out there was no actual entrance.
After watching that I feel like the hoopers I make are way overkill. Nice job..
Good video but i wish USA would finally go metric with their measurements
Will this hold a snow load? How about high winds(60+ MPH)?
We always take ours down in the winter, I think you would need something stronger to hold much snow. High winds can be an issue. We have found that burying most of the edges with dirt really helps with wind problems.
Okay..thanks for the answer back
Little David obviously build this but the dad take all the credit, what a shame...
The moaning lol😂😂😂
Link for the materials list, in the description, is going to a page 404 not found.
Sorry about the link. It should be fixed now.
Simple Gifts Farm Sweet, thanks!
Good thing that kid didnt trip and fall face first onto that stake....
You are so right that kid should be inside safe watching tv.
i dont like it..
Child labour!! Call social services and start the anti-child labour activists propaganda!! He should be watching TV and playing with GI Joes!
+Charles Laferrière - your an idiot
+Charles Laferrière Without work how the children learn anything. I like that smart kid who help his father.
Charles Laferrière ,
if the government had its way, the child would be in school being indoctrinated with all the Obama crap and liberalism that comes with it!
Charles Laferrière I hope this was meant to be a joke...? If not your a moron....
