I can't believe this was 12 years ago already! There was sense of comradery that I miss from running like this. I completed two 100 mile runs then my career picked up & my training weened off until I stopped a couple years after. I miss the days of sleeping in the woods with my friends. Running, sometimes in silence for 5 hours at a time. Losing all of the skin off my back from a new backpack I wasn't used to. The heat strokes & hallucinations. I'm happy right now but I really miss these days.
I have watched videos, read books, and dreamed about running a 100 mile race, but I still cannot get my mind around how this is humanly possible! Just incredible athletes!
Eating the perfect diet for yourself, natural foods, avoiding all processed foods. On top of that, taking a suppliment to boost muscle endurance and oxygen retention within the body, and these same suppliments help a lot with the recovery process after the grind of a 100 mi race. I have ran this exact race course with some friends. We took the best muscle endurance, oxygen retention, high elevation suppliment in the world, home made by our mt everest mountain guides in their incredible off grid location in the lower valley of the himalayan mountains near a large glacier water fed lake. The suppliment is all herbs, plants, some himalayan salt, and some extra minerals. We took this when running this course. My lifelong lady partner, and myself, along with 2 other good friends of ours, also a lifelong couple. We ran this course in exactly 22 hours 8 min 3 seconds. We ran this in mid July of 2015, hotter then blaze durin the day, we took it very easy in the extreme heat when no trees were around, then ran faster the final 20 miles when the sun was mostly and completely down. For the longest time we were over a 24 hour pace to finish the race, but those final 20 miles, we had plenty of juice to make up time and finish strong, eating tons of fruit, mostly melon based fruits, grapes, and a few different types of berries. Along with jerky, some all natural chips for extra salt, seeds/nuts, and some high energy grain/seed/nut bars.
After unsuccessful attempts at filming WS100 in 2006, 2007, and 2009 it became clear that even with 7 cameras, this race is much too difficult to film without limiting the focus to a small group of runners with similar paces. The mens race had three undefeated runners and a chance at a course record, so we went for the mens leaders. However our last film Rowing the Atlantic featured a woman adventurer and currently JF is working on our next film focusing on women ultra runners! Coming soon!
Not sure what web page you are looking at, but the DVD is available NOW at the store on Journeyfilm website or you can follow the link in the description of this video. Hope this helps. JF
JB, What Luis Escobar did for WS that day with his mind blowing phtotgraphy you have equalled with this footage and coming DVD. Congratulations and thank you for giving ultra runners all over the world an insight into the battle and behind the scenes of an amazing day. Chapeau :)
Deeply touching! Keeps me going out for a training every time! All the emotions you can have in one movie! Really captured what ultrarunning is all about! Thanx for sharing this!!
@MattySchwartzLPW The song is actually called Chapter 7 by Blackyear. It is available at iTunes and Amazon. They changed the name on the album from Credit Mess to Chapter 7.

Amazing movie! So inspiring. The end was one of the best of any movie I've seen. Truth be told I kinda had to fight the urge to get out for a long run right after watching lol
I have the film and can't get it back. I loaned it out a few weeks ago and it keeps getting passed around. Hopefully I'll get it back before the end of the year. It's rewarding on many levels. Just as distance running is. I think I could go on forever, ironically. Congratulations on making a great running film. Western States is coming up. It will be interesting to see how Ryan Sandes handles the course. I think he's confirmed. I don't know about Kilian, but wouldn't that be interesting!
@stopgapper Digital Downloads will be available. There is just a lot of lead-time and red tape in setting this up. We are aiming for February when we do an iTunes and major retailer launch.
@tlcollier2 The release date was announced in UltraRunning Magazine this month, but for those who missed it, screenings and pre-sales begin 11-25-2011, we just updated the webpage and added a full release schedule and a signup page for those interested in hosting a Digital Download Screening in their theater or living room in their local areas.
Hi everyone thanks for your comments. Here are a few answers for the past few comments: If you search Western States 100 on Amazon.com, you will find our DVD along with our films by JF. You can also find Unbreakable as a DVD, SD digital download or HD digital download located on the store tab on the Journeyfilm website or you can follow the link in the description of this video. Thanks for viewing and for all your comments - JF
Same thing here. Please make the digital download available. Right now we see the three options for resolution available but that's about it. After going to the kart it says that none are available...
Run for pleasure, not for a minutes-per-mile talking point. Run trails, avoid pavement, run alone, together, whatever you enjoy. But, the important thing is to just relax and take it easy, and you will find your zone.
I no longer purchase DVDs, but rather store movies on my computer/Ipad/Ipod/portable hard drive (for backup). I can't find this movie in digital/streaming format, and would gladly pay the DVD price for it. I read that it was coming out in Feb, but it's June. Will it come out soon in digital?
I think they were just focusing on runners who had a good shot at winning the race. Not to say women can't beat all the men, they can, but I think they wanted to set up a rivalry that would be focused on in the film. Hopefully the movie will show other runners too, including women.
As everyone else has said, is there ANY chance of this movie actually being released in any format? I can't even get a copy through their own website. TAKE MY MONEY!!
Thanks to JB for my moment of immortality [4:03], where I was working the Nikon, which climaxed here on my flickr site at larrygassan/4750386683/, with Geoff, Anton, Jenn, and Lou in frame...
@journeyfilm Definitely! Awesome community over there with a ton of talented people. I curate the documentary film channel over there and would love to post some of your work up there.
As to the WS-100, once is cool but twice is stupid. So, I cheerfully admit to being stupid as I ran it twice. But I advise you approach this mother-of-all-races with caution as it is like opium--highly life-changing and very addictive.
I agree. I have never run the race itself, but ran the course with 3 friends in mid July of 2015. A combination of mostly slower running, jogging, and occasional walking up the steep hills(the 1st 4 miles, thenleading the Michigan Bluff, Devils Thumb etc). Ran it in 22 hours 8 min 3 seconds using a suppliment our mt everest mountain guides in Nepal, have made right off their off grid himalayan mountain valley landmass by their medicine people. That suppliment helped us a ton, if it werent for that, we would have been pushing closer to the cut off time of 30 hours. We also soaked it up in the all natural streams/rivers along the way, that helped us a lot as well, the water very healing to the body while cooling us off at the same time.
Harlan Stockman thanks for the question, unfortunately you might have your mountains mixed up. If you are referring to the shot with the moon right at the very beginning, that was shot from Emmigrant Pass at mile four of the Western States course looking towards the west, the morning of the race.
at the very beginning there is a picture with "journeyfilms" written in mid-frame. That is unmistakably Mt Humphreys in the Sierra, as viewed on the flats just north of Paiute Pass.
Harlan Stockman oh... gottcha. That has always been the backdrop for the Journeyfilm Logo intro title card, ever since our first film The Runner. It is not specific to the film, but is emblematic of the Journeyfilm spirt. Just a peak climb from the past.
Steeltherion Let me see if I can shed some light on this for you. In terms of cost, all Niche market films sell in this range. Look at the cost of a ski movie. They are $30 and there is 10x the market for ski films than endurance films. You also have to look at the time and cost in these projects. They take two years to produce and cost about $75,000 to $200,000 to make. Music alone costs $30,000-$60,000. There is only hope to sell, 2000-8000 copies. Without a $20-$30 price, $10 of which we get to keep, it's not a very sustainable market. I hope this clarifies and I hope that you opt to support this type of content, so we can invest in future projects. Best John Journeyfilm
journeyfilm Thanks for the reply, I live in the UK and the dvd is on sale at amazon for £26.95, which is $42.45, even if I bought from you directly, the cost would be near the same, adding on postage and import tax. So you can see why I question this, but as you have shown me the reasons for the price, I will still have to decline.
journeyfilm This is the best running movie I have ever seen - it just never gets old for me and was well worth every dollar. I watched the dvd a few times while training for my first ultra last year and I must say, this soundtrack just kept popping in my head during the race. There were times at night during the race when I would look down and my Petzl would illuminate my shoes shuffling in the dirt and it reminded me of some of the low angle shots in the film. The free spirit of the movie just stayed with me during the whole race and kept me going (and singing). I hope you enjoyed yourself in making the film because you captured something timeless and soulful in the project and it is tough to put a price on that.

My dad met Hal at his last hundred like three days ago and got me his autograph, he told me to run hard :) I love it!
Finally a movie about ultra running, I am SO excited! On a side note, Yes Jenn Shelton is ridiculously cute.

Looks like another quality product from Journey Film. Can't wait
Incredible interviews and interviewees; I can't wait to see the whole thing.
You missed something: you forgot to interview Dusty Olson, Scott Jurek's pacer with some great one-liners!
Deeply touching! Keeps me going out for a training every time! All the emotions you can have in one movie! Really captured what ultrarunning is all about! Thanx for sharing this!!
I could watch this movie everyday. So inspiring and awesome!
@MattySchwartzLPW The song is actually called Chapter 7 by Blackyear. It is available at iTunes and Amazon. They changed the name on the album from Credit Mess to Chapter 7.
Such a great movie.
I can't wait to get my hands on the full movie. WS is my dream race and one day I will toe the line AND get my own buckle.

You have to make it digital. iTunes or whatever. I want to give you my money too!!
Nice work, saw a screening last night in Ashland, OR - could you tell me the artist/track at the end of the film? Inspiring!

lol 1:24 "He is just the toughest MOFO alive"
They should do a western states film of Jim Walmsley
AWE-SOME!!!
any news about the digital download? It seems we can only purchase a minimum of 15 person license??? For 150$!!!???
yes!!!

I wish it's on iTune!
is there a release date set yet?
I agree with togue, it's time!!

Can't wait for the digital download. Looks really interesting. One note though. What a horrible horrible font to use...

What about digital download? Or netflix?
Any way to buy the stream online?
Whats the instrumental song playing in the middle of this trailer from 1:15 20 about 3 minutes?
As everyone else has said, is there ANY chance of this movie actually being released in any format? I can't even get a copy through their own website. TAKE MY MONEY!!

Can anybody enter this race?? Im from Ireland and would love to do this!!
Where can I get this movie?
@journeyfilm Definitely! Awesome community over there with a ton of talented people. I curate the documentary film channel over there and would love to post some of your work up there.
Killian has the best legs.
Is this a real documentary someone!? I really want to see it but can't even buy it on Amazon.
How do I get this movie?
Where can I buy this film? Someone Please.

Yes! You can go to www.journeyfilm.com and purchase either a physical DVD or a digital download of the film that you can store on your PC.
What is the name of the song that plays towards the end of the video? :)
Blackyear and the song "Chapter 7" open.spotify.com/artist/6MxLknQ9qYfVqLsWN48FH8?si=ti-sfLXwQOa8L7RCfZ_01Q
I've waited 9 months to see this movie. I live in France...how can I download it for a normal price (not $150)??????
digital!

Finished in 16 hours? Just in time for bed!
the lyrics are different. Between the song here and on blackyear's album.
How the hell do I get this movie??
Am I missing something? The video is $30? How many people are going to be spending $30 to see it? I'd love to see it, but not for $30.
Unbreakable movieeee here => twitter.com/5b20657f2b9b563b7/status/826263886353485826
I paid. Well worth it.
Andrew Hess Its worth the money
I bought the DVD and I've seen it approx 25 times!
Quit whining - your gonna die with money in the bank - watch the movie 🤪
Nothing like watching inspiring clips about ultra distance running while eating ruffles to make me feel like a fat piece o' shit...
So Scott Jerek doesn't actually run in the race?
He's ran the race and won it quite a few times...
+Devin Murphy 7X
+Devin Murphy ....in a row
i have the same question
Did anyone else see Jesus in the center on the start line?
Why so expensive? I see a few dvd's of yours that look interesting, but even buying one is steep.

Awesome, but it's a shame they don't seem to be profiling any of the female front runners.
wtf can jesus run always without tshirt?
