Ice Fishing the Canadian (Fun) Way on Lake Winnipeg!

If you think ice fishing is dull, boring and not much fun, then you are doing it wrong. We head up on a remote part of Lake Winnipeg to enjoy our annual "Ice Fishing Bumbler," which compliments the fall hunting "Bumbler" that a group of friends have been getting together for since the '90s. A fair bit of fishing with a lot of bumbling fun... A small glimpse into how we do it.
This group (and some others who were unable to make it out this year) have been fishing and hunting a long time. Yes, catching fish is fun, and sometimes day trips we concentrate on fishing only, but on a multi-day get together like this we like to mix it up with a different beverage or cocktail nights, comedy movie or video selection, snack, lunch and dinner menus, and with our mix of characters, other kinds of fun happens spontaneously.
Our fishing excursions usually entail exploring new areas, often quite remote - success not necessarily in fish caught, but in the thrill of exploration, getting out of a tight spot, or meeting an objective.
Fish is always on the menu pretty much every meal - on this trip we ran into a some commercial fisherman and picked up a few fresh caught burbot (for the chowder at the end) and some suckers to be pickled for later.
