I always get goosebumps when she gets up and stands in front of Gale. It’s sad to realize she was willing to die for him but he was part of the reason her sister died.
In this scene it’s Peeta that gets me because instead of just going in front of Katniss he jumps in front of Haymitch too, I think leaning he’s willing to die for Katniss and Haymitch.
Telling the Peacekeeper that Katniss is not smart protects Katniss, because it means Katniss does not act on a plan against the government, but acts emotionally impulsive because of her friendship with Gale.
In the books Gale was stated to 40 whips for poaching one turkey Another peacekeeper of district 12 Darius stood up for Gale at around 20 whips and was then turned into an Avox Gale fell unconscious near 32 whips katniss was told by Gales fellow miners
Do you ever wonder if Thread killed Katniss, a victor, that he would get tortured? Or that the districts would go into rage and rebel for revenge? Causing the entire country of Panem to break down and kill off society as we know it?
That wouldn't have inspired the Districts to go into rebellion. She inspired the Districts while being alive. It might have angered some Capitol folks, but that's about it. Thread'd be punished, though.

I know what Gale did here wasn’t accurate to the books, but it’s totally in his character. Just the way he saw the woman on the ground and immediately ran to protect her/distract the peacekeepers from her is amazing. He’s an awesome character

Yes, it is morally wrong, but no one in their society cares about morals, or at least the Capital and their enforcers don't. Now, you mentioned 12 year olds? The Capital uses a mix of hope and fear to constantly remind the districts that their forefathers rebelled against the Capital, and this is the price. Dissent will not be tolerated in any form, that's the foundation of a Totalitarian society. Back to the Peacekeepers. While no one breaks the law, there is peace. If someone, young or old, speaks out or defies anyone deemed above them by the Capital, that is seen as dissent and therefore rebellion against the Capital. To make sure no spark of rebellion is seeded in the other citizens, the Peacekeepers beat them into submission or just put them down. Peace is a neutral concept. It doesn't have to be happy for all, only those in power. And thus, the Peacekeepers keep the peace of the Capital.
My theory on Commander Thread: I think he originally came from District 2 (as most peacekeepers do in the books) and grew up in an academy training as a career for The Hunger Games. But when his time came to volunteer for the games, someone else beat him to it, and he has been bitter ever since.
Love how Peeta comes out of nowhere, ready to protect his Katniss and anything she loves. I feel like he was mad that he didn't get there before Haymitch though.
It's the way Thread looks around when Haymitch mentions President Snow that makes it clear he's figured out just how screwed executing Katniss would make him. Even _he_ fears the state's wrath.
I read the books before I watched the movies so it’s cool to see that Katniss didn’t get smacked in the check with the whip instead the commander just punched her.
