  • Network types depend on how large they are and how much of an area they cover geographically. This video explains the difference between a LAN vs WAN, along with other networks.

    The SAN you talk about is the first time I've heard about it, but it makes sense: instead of having your storage servers hogging the main, user-facing network, you have a network in a cabinet that just manages the servers in that cabinet, only sending out to the main network when a user needs a file fetching.

    The way I typically explain a SAN to people is to think of a NAS, but instead of sharing files/folders over SMB, it gives out virtual disks like candy called LUNs that appear in the user's Windows Disk Management as if it's a physical drive, but it's actually thru either fibre channel if your company has money, or iSCSI if they're poor
