  • Climate protesters blocked a road leading to the Burning Man Festival in the US state of Nevada, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“The Nevada Police turned up and have a look at how they dealt with it,” Mr Kenny said.

This story is being reported FUNDAMENTALLY INCORRECTLY. These are not Nevada police. These are Pyramid Lake American Indian Reservation Rangers (police). The laws on their land are exceptionally different. Significantly more so than how US States differ. It is genuinely closer to having another country within the United States.

@@tritontransportWhile I agree mostly on your points, sometimes doing things the legal way isn't enough. America was founded on criminals doing illegal things to protest British rule. A revolution isn't legal, but it is sometimes moral and necessary. A protest that doesn't break any laws is ineffectual and cowardly. Frankly, I find the cause of stopping big oil more important than a bunch of burners who need to get high. As a burner myself I can tell you, I can get high and listen to music in my car just as easily. I agree that the trooper was very much right to destroy the blockade like they did, but I also think that breaking the stranglehold oil companies have on our government is more important than people going to the desert to take psychedelics and burn a giant effigy.
Just some food for thought. What is more important to humanity? Making sure we don't make the world uninhabitable to humans, or making sure some hippies can get incredibly high?

Handcuffing yourself to things is a time-honored protest strategy, but typically it would be something you didn't want disturbed. Or, like, the entrance to a chemical weapons factory or some shit. And you'd absolutely expect to be removed, roughed up, and arrested. Using that technique to create a traffic jam at the entrance to a festival is just pure scenester petulance.

Think of a restaurant sit in, they were taking up space in that business and patrons wouldn't come in, hurting said business and making a patrons day harder. They illegally blockaded a roadway. The same woman heard shrieking in the video obnoxiously was also caught in other videos being rude and condescending to motorists who politely asked her and the others to move before the tribal police showed up. In Nevada temperatures can reach well over 110 degrees Fahrenheit or more in the summer. So not only were they forming an illegal blockade which they have no right to do, but also were putting all the people, children and pets in their cars at risk for health emergencies in that heat. They were also trespassing on Native American land. So glad I live in America where we don’t tolerate this like they do in Europe where they do nothing about it. I can’t imagine how frustrating. That is the ONLY road for miles so if anything happens, intentional or accidental, it is going to have a huge impact for hours. Not to mention cars can overheat running the AC in high temps, especially just sitting there as there is less airflow over the radiator.
Were the cops forceful, yes. Do I blame them for doing what they did, no. I have seen the raw footage and they gave them the chance to clear out, they made ZERO effort at all, so the cops showed they were not messing around. Then when nothing changes because the laws were passed and no one wants to pass other laws, they move. I hate how fek'd the U.K. is at the moment. And with Klaus and the new Fake King of England scratching each others backs for exchanges of power I feel you guys are lost without full on rebellion. Charles sons are no better in my opinion. William may see the light if he wants to keep his head and be for the people of England. But I doubt it because as a parent I know you instill your values onto your children. God Bless from the States.

You missed the best part! The policeman then jumped out of his truck and with his gun drawn, ordered them all down on the ground and other officers arrived and they started cuffing them. They ad-lib'd some cuffs with tape and zip ties, then started piling them in the back of a pick up truck.
