  • Our DIY RV SKIRTING using FOAM BOARD for RV WINTER. Winter is here so we had to DIY our RV skirting using foam board right away to make sure our pipes don’t freeze. There are different forms of RV skirting. Find out if we think using foam boards for RV winter installation is the best plan of action.

    I’m going to give you a couple of ideas. When it comes to the wheel wells you can cut a piece of the skirting in a length that will fit on top of the wheel wells by about 3 inches wide. The remaining piece can be laid over this and you will have extra to put in vertical pieces for a good seal on the ends. It can be done with 1 sheet and if you want to secure the bottom of the skirting you can use long spikes. I think they are about a foot long. This will help if you get high winds in your area.

      @TheLiveOutLoudFamily  8 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much! It flew all over the place. We will definitely try that! Really appreciate it!

      @@TheLiveOutLoudFamily it might be a little overkill but you can space the spikes about 3 feet apart and at the corners you can put 1 In about 3 inches from the end in each direction. Another thing that helps is to put tape on the edge of the styrofoam. I use 2 inch thick styrofoam so I get an overlap of 1/2 inch on each side with 3 inch tape. This way the tape that you use has a better surface to stick to instead of the styrofoam edge.Also,when you are taping the styrofoam on, you can get 1 1/2 inches of tape on the trailer wall and 1 1/2 inches on the styrofoam. Another thing that will help is to clean the area where you want to put the tape. Glass cleaner and paper towels work good for this. Good Luck.

      It definitely kept the underbelly warm and the floors were warmer as a result, no too cold in the mornings. I did learn a lesson though, I would use 2 inch next time and ensure the bottom is secure with some concrete blocks.

    Yea, that looks like a pain if your traveling with set-up/teardowns on a frequent basis, plus storing it while on the road . . .
    Just avoid cold weather - HA!

    • @TheLiveOutLoudFamily
      @TheLiveOutLoudFamily  Год назад +2

      That’s a good idea! I know, it all won’t fit underneath so it will be a bit unsightly inside the RV. Last year we ran into so much snow, in places that usually never get snow 🤣 we thought we would be prepared this time, but not sure this is the best solution 😅 I hope you two had a great weekend!

    RV DIY with Shorts Chris. Nice to have someone so handy. Never knew you need to do this with an RV. What is the benefit for putting the skirt? Chris cracks me up 😂. Poor Chris is freezing and the fam is chilling at Starbucks. How much was the more expensive option. Cool to see how much you guys saved.

    • @TheLiveOutLoudFamily

      🤣 Carl, he will wear shorts all winter and then when it’s really hot in the summer he will wear pants. I can’t talk any sense into him so I don’t even try anymore 😂😂😂 The skirting options are usually thousands of dollars so it did save a lot but as you can see it might not be that mobile friendly. We thought that we were being smart 🤣 It’s doing the trick for now though. Have you got snow yet?

    Hmmmm - I would have measured the RV and had a plan… Just sayin’. 😁
    I’m wondering if you need to be that exact with closing it in. Even if it isn’t airtight, just blocking the wind from blowing underneath should make enough of a difference. Then it would be fewer pieces and easier to transport.
    I would also tape the rough edges to keep them from making a mess as you move them around.
    Just sayin’…. Probably should have asked me first. 🧐
