I still do believe in Christian education. Ellen white said many years ago that even though though our schools may have erred, our students are still prisoners of hope. I attended Oakwood University many years ago, and yes there were faults, but Oakwood is where I found Jesus anew. Oakwood changed my life. Still today, though there may be faults, many are still finding Jesus on these sacred grounds. It's still God's institution. The main reason that enrollment has dropped is because of the cost. Unfortunately Adventist Education is too expensive
Andrews and Oakwood should be closed, not to mention Lima Linda, with all the abominable apostasies that has been going on in those institutions of learning. Most of the pastors graduating from those schools are unfit to be in the pulpits bearing the SDA Name. Period.
No Adventist university should be closed, especially not Black Adventist Universities. If anything there needs to be some restructuring. Also, we are in no place to judge the worthiness of graduates from that school. Leave that to God. To say MOST are not fit to be pastors is a bold statement, but not in a good way.

I'm well aware other people can comment...Some of you who claim to be Adventists are too quick to outwardly cast down judgement on the churches and our institutions. Reformation is needed in some areas, but to write off our institutions as hopeless is ridiculous and highly judgemental. God will handle the problems, we just hope and pray for our leadership. And I will say, Adventist schools are still a much better option than the public schools. That's one thing I can say for a fact. Even with their flaws.
When I was there, I tried to get them to look into bringing on a Culinary Program. That would have brought on more students. You have to have a vision.
My Christian brothers and sisters do you know what is happening in the non - christian schools? Do you want to expose your children to some of practices and teachings in the secular schools? Pause and consider some things you are saying. Please don't destroy our schools by some of the things you are saying. Our schools are not perfect but they are far better than the worldly schools where you can't pray or have worship and have no regard for the Sabbath? Have you asked yourself what will happen to our churches when our schools are closed and we have no trained pastors and teachers? Do you want non- Adventist schools to train our workers? Let's ask yourselves how can we help financially and otherwise? As parents sometimes we want our schools to mold our children when we neglect to teach them sound godly principles. Our Adventist homes are failing our children and we want our schools to make up where the home fails. We could be positive, negative or neutral. Sometimes the news he brings is good, sometimes bad and sometimes indifferent. So do NOT attack the brother when you are hurting. He is using his gifts and talents to host a channel. Now take a pause and reflect, then determine if your voice is really necessary right at that moment. As an alumnus of Oakwood University (when it was Oakwood College), a lifelong SDA, a student in our SDA schools in all but 2 years my academic life, and a parent of 2 current Oakwood Students.... the root cause of the problems at Oakwood and other SDA Universities is demonstrated by 2 of the members of "Concerned Oakwoodites". Simply put, they are wearing Jewelry! The SDA Church, in keeping with Biblical Standards, does not permit the wearing of jewelry. Therefore, they are concerned about the financial and academic issues of Oakwood, but not the proliferation of standard violations that are commonplace on the campus. In fact, the wearing of jewelry is not seen only on students bodies... but also some faculty. Everything we do in the SDA Church is driven by message and mission. Sanctioned violations of our message is not a less important issue than our academic and financial woes, but are, in fact, the reason for our academic and financial woes. "God First" is the motto of the campus, but that is merely a slogan. I say this with no glee....but with sadness.... "God Who?" should be the motto. If you walked the campus recently... as I have.... you would know what I am talking about. However the reasons for the decline in the enrollment of our Universities goes even further than merely what is allowed on our campuses.... but begins with what is preached in our pulpits. In times past our unique message, faithfully preached, made attending our SDA Schools the one and only option for SDA parents. The theoretical was preached on Sabbath and the practical was taught in our schools during the week. It was Adventism week in and week out! The sacrifice was difficult, but vital for SDA youth's rearing and upbringing. Now... the pulpits are no longer ringing out the peculiar message of the SDA Church.... but one that can be heard either on Sabbath or Sunday. Hence, parents are making decisions based on finances and/or academic comparison's with non-adventist schools, and other considerations. They figure... "If we're not much different, then why not save money and send my children to the public school". Though I don't agree, who can blame them? Our institutions are formidable only if they stand for the purposes for which they were instituted.
First problem the Church rock is founded by Jesus Christ , not SDA. Preach Jesus not the conference. The message by SDA is not filled with love. So it’s 2024 and your concern isn’t that people love Jesus are kind helping the poor and showing what the gospel of Christ means. But you’re angry over jewelry, don’t wear it! Put on the full armor of God be kind spread the love of Jesus. It’s all in the word, read your Bibles and be filled with the Holy Spirit to transform you, then go to others in love. Have mercy

I want to know what is going on in my church at all levels and if there are compromises with the world then there must be correction, that is edifying. We are to be transparent, not hiding our faults and weaknesses like what is done in society.

Good question. This is one that goes deeper than most people expect and understand. I worked as a student with the Administration, and all I can say is that it had to do with an outstanding debt the University had with the GC. By going to the NAD the debt was settled and it was like giving the University a clean slate. @@drkesslyn1066

I'll admit I am not at all interested in sending my children to any college but I would be interested in sending them to a SDA high school but there are none near us. If I were going to send them to college it would be SDA. I prefer they learn trade skills and practical skills.

I am an Adventist Christian but I can not encourage anybody to take their children to my beloved church's higher learning institutions because they are managed by mainly pro LGBTQ educators whose moral stands are worse than what you will get in public higher learning institutions.

I’m so much in agreement with this statement. Secular education doesn’t fly the colors of the 3angels message NOR does it claim too. One can readily see that..therefore we can warn that a student attending a secular school knows that they cannot follow what is going on in the school if they choose to attend. (Outside of classes). However how can we explain that to students being sent to sda schools that are allowing the practices(I.e dress, clubs ,entertainment) and say they are there for a christian experience!Youth know double talk when they hear it. EGW stated this years ago about Andrew’s (then Emanuel Missionary College). She stated at that time NOT to let nursing students attend because of the gross secularism that they were exposed to at the time i.e (jewelry, etc) History repeating itself ?

There are such schools: Fountain View Academy, Ouachita Hills Academy, Heritage Academy and Hartland Academy, Weimar Academy and a few others. I personally worked at Ouachita Hills. Blessings.

Oakwood University is a GOOD SCHOOL. Pray for the President and his team. They need our support . Additionally, they go the extra mile to make everyone's experience unique. There is nothing bad to say about them. They are true unselfish servants of God doing all within their power to keep Oakwood's name out in the forefront. Soon their effort will bear much fruit and God will be Praised.

I think it depends on what you call “good.” Not bashing the school but there are some issues that need to be addressed. My son graduated in May 2023 and he had to fly down there to get his diploma. I graduated from a secular university around the same time and my diploma was mailed to me in a tube along with a graduation package with my tassle, a card, and some confetti along with a digital copy of my diploma in email. OU gave him his diploma in a white envelope.

1. If a university's entire plan of survival depends on people sending their children just because they're Adventist, the school will fail. Today people attend school based on merit. You need to be the best choice for any student, not just Adventist ones. 2. We're unlikely to solve the longterm issues if we can't discuss the substance of the issues. The reason some population in Adventist schools have fallen because we seem to have a problem living up to the standard God has called us up to, and following the golden rule in relating to our brothers and sisters Christ relates to use seems to be difficult for us, then there is a lack of honor from church members and their children and families to hold up to the standards we claim Christians should live up to according to the Bible. Last,, we are to picky in some areas of our church school polices and not upholding in others, plus our schools are to expensive compared to the world economy, and ways to support them need to be improve. How can the church and the church school work as one in unity if they do not agree, if we think other schools are better than our institutions how can they be supported. If your heart is open to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, you should make an apology before the world on your program for your statements about the Bible in comparison to the Spirit of Prophecy. Read the devotional “YE SHALL RECEIVE POWER” pg 232, August 11, by Ellen White and by God’s grace take the right stand. You should also pass on the information to Walter Veitz and other so called leaders you are looking to, for explanation on God’s truth. The greatest want of the world is the want of men. Men who would not be bought or sold. Men who In their innermost souls are true and honest. Men who do not fear to call sin by it’s right name. Men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole. Men who would stand for the right though the heavens fall. Love you brother

Prospective students are following their parents and some Church leaders into public and nonAdventist education. I am surprised at how many pastors and Church leaders, even General Conference workers send their children to non SDA schools. They see nothing wrong with it. Worldliness is fostered and members follow the leaders. So we end up with worldly workers in our institutions. If our schools are little different than other schools why try to break the bank, so to speak, to send them to our schools? Education reform is needed across the board in ALL our mainstream schools. I pray it happens SOONER than later.
Could it be that what is happening in the churches are affecting the colleges. few young people in our churches even fewer young people to go to college .until we fix the problem in our church we will not be able to fix our colleges.

Man, I rewatched this video after someone sent me a story about oakwood. I just noticed something didn't before.... an alumnus in the story is wearing JEWELRY. There goes the start of the problem right there. And when you see jewelry that automatically tells you the theology of the place is very compromised.
This is not new Jesus had opposition from the church when he was on Earth the devil will always find people within the church who will be used to cause problem listen to pastor Snell's sermon on Sabbath titled "smoked out" and we'll understand it better. There are many issues - but adequately address them without first understanding 2 issues: 1. There are simply less young people in the population (Adventist or not). 2. Of those shrinking pool of young people that happen to be Adventist, not enough of them are attending our SDA schools.

It was the practice of the Roman church to hide, conceal and pretend that the church's dealings were to be hidden from public scrutiny. We do NOT follow Rome's practices that's why we are the Protestant church differentiating ourselves by doctrine, profession and practice from other protestants. Therefore, we must follow the "Word" faithfully and NOT lose sight of the times of the end. "It was the policy of Rome to obliterate every trace of dissent from her doctrines or decrees. "God First" is the motto of the campus, but that is merely a slogan. I say this with no glee....but with sadness.... "God Who?" should be the motto. If you walked the campus recently... as I have.... you would know what I am talking about. However the reasons for the decline in the enrollment of our Universities goes even further than merely what is allowed on our campuses.... but begins with what is preached in our pulpits. In times past our unique message, faithfully preached, made attending our SDA Schools the one and only option for SDA parents. The theoretical was preached on Sabbath and the practical was taught in our schools during the week. It was Adventism week in and week out! The sacrifice was difficult, but vital for SDA youth's rearing and upbringing. Now... the pulpits are no longer ringing out the peculiar message of the SDA Church.... but one that can be heard either on Sabbath or Sunday. Hence, parents are making decisions based on finances and/or academic comparison's with non-adventist schools, and other considerations. They figure... "If we're not much different, then why not save money and send my children to the public school". Though I don't agree, who can blame them? Our institutions are formidable only if they stand for the purposes for which they were instituted.

First problem the Church rock is founded by Jesus Christ , not SDA. Preach Jesus not the conference. The message by SDA is not filled with love. Good question. This is one that goes deeper than most people expect and understand. I worked as a student with the Administration, and all I can say is that it had to do with an outstanding debt the University had with the GC. By going to the NAD the debt was settled and it was like giving the University a clean slate. @@drkesslyn1066

I'll admit I am not at all interested in sending my children to any college but I would be interested in sending them to a SDA high school but there are none near us. If I were going to send them to college it would be SDA. I prefer they learn trade skills and practical skills.

I am an Adventist Christian but I can not encourage anybody to take their children to my beloved church's higher learning institutions because they are managed by mainly pro LGBTQ educators whose moral stands are worse than what you will get in public higher learning institutions.

I’m so much in agreement with this statement. Secular education doesn’t fly the colors of the 3angels message NOR does it claim too. One can readily see that..therefore we can warn that a student attending a secular school knows that they cannot follow what is going on in the school if they choose to attend. (Outside of classes). However how can we explain that to students being sent to sda schools that are allowing the practices(I.e dress, clubs ,entertainment) and say they are there for a christian experience!Youth know double talk when they hear it. EGW stated this years ago about Andrew’s (then Emanuel Missionary College). She stated at that time NOT to let nursing students attend because of the gross secularism that they were exposed to at the time i.e (jewelry, etc) History repeating itself ?

There are such schools: Fountain View Academy, Ouachita Hills Academy, Heritage Academy and Hartland Academy, Weimar Academy and a few others. I personally worked at Ouachita Hills. Blessings.

Oakwood University is a GOOD SCHOOL. Pray for the President and his team. They need our support . Additionally, they go the extra mile to make everyone's experience unique. There is nothing bad to say about them. They are true unselfish servants of God doing all within their power to keep Oakwood's name out in the forefront. Soon their effort will bear much fruit and God will be Praised.

I think it depends on what you call “good.” Not bashing the school but there are some issues that need to be addressed. My son graduated in May 2023 and he had to fly down there to get his diploma. I graduated from a secular university around the same time and my diploma was mailed to me in a tube along with a graduation package with my tassle, a card, and some confetti along with a digital copy of my diploma in email. OU gave him his diploma in a white envelope.

Calling attention to the misuse of funds, abuse of authority and the lack of expertise in education is doing God’s work. If nothing is done, the school will continue to suffer which could lead to its closure.

We will reap what we sown
1. If a university's entire plan of survival depends on people sending their children just because they're Adventist, the school will fail. Today people attend school based on merit. You need to be the best choice for any student, not just Adventist ones.
2. We're unlikely to solve the longterm issues if we can't discuss the substance of the issues. Someone wearing jewelry doesn't impact enrollment and just running a pledge drive for a cash dump won't fix bureaucratic problems.

What does earrings have to do with the operation of the school. Does his earrings negate the incompetence of those in charge of allocations of funds, spending, and recruitment? C’mon now.
The reason some population in Adventist schools have fallen because we seem to have a problem living up to the standard God has called us up to, and following the golden rule in relating to our brothers and sisters Christ relates to use seems to be difficult for us, then there is a lack of honor from church members and their children and families to hold up to the standards we claim Christians should live up to according to the Bible. Last,, we are to picky in some areas of our church school polices and not upholding in others, plus our schools are to expensive compared to the world economy, and ways to support them need to be improve. How can the church and the church school work as one in unity if they do not agree, if we think other schools are better than our institutions how can they be supported. We need to bring our schools up to part without compromise of God's word the Bible, because we cannot be like the world and be servants of God to.

If your heart is open to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, you should make an apology before the world on your program for your statements about the Bible in comparison to the Spirit of Prophecy. Read the devotional “YE SHALL RECEIVE POWER” pg 232, August 11, by Ellen White and by God’s grace take the right stand. You should also pass on the information to Walter Veitz and other so called leaders you are looking to, for explanation on God’s truth. The greatest want of the world is the want of men. Men who would not be bought or sold. Men who In their innermost souls are true and honest. Men who do not fear to call sin by it’s right name. Prospective students are following their parents and some Church leaders into public and nonAdventist education. I am surprised at how many pastors and Church leaders, even General Conference workers send their children to non SDA schools. They see nothing wrong with it.
Worldliness is fostered and members follow the leaders. So we end up with worldly workers in our institutions. If our schools are little different than other schools why try to break the bank, so to speak, to send them to our schools? Education reform is needed across the board in ALL our mainstream schools. I pray it happens SOONER than later.

Man, I rewatched this video after someone sent me a story about oakwood. I just noticed something didn't before.... an alumnus in the story is wearing JEWELRY.
There goes the start of the problem right there. And when you see jewelry that automatically tells you the theology of the place is very compromised.

There are many issues - but adequately address them without first understanding 2 issues:
1. There are simply less young people in the population (Adventist or not).
2. Of those shrinking pool of young people that happen to be Adventist, not enough of them are attending our SDA schools.
Add to that the enormous cost of a SDA college
What do you expect to gain by putting this in the public?. No place is perfect. Pray that God will help them and us for new vision and guidance. Some of what you are doing are not admirable. Those,who are without " sins" cast the first stone. Stop being so crtical and offer constructive advice.

It was the practice of the Roman church to hide, conceal and pretend that the church's dealings were to be hidden from public scrutiny. We do NOT follow Rome's practices that's why we are the Protestant church differentiating ourselves by doctrine, profession and practice from other protestants. Therefore, we must follow the "Word" faithfully and NOT lose sight of the times of the end. "It was the policy of Rome to obliterate every trace of dissent from her doctrines or decrees. Except taken from "The Spirit of Prophecy, vol. 4, Chapter 4, The Waldenses". Read this chapter.
