What an awesome race that was, I recorded it on audio cassettes live and still have them now. The XA two door Falcons look really good. This car was previously in a yellow and black colour scheme and I think they did a re paint just before the big race. It's a shame those days are gone now.😀😀👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
First Bathurst I watched too. Was really happy a Falcon won, they just looked much better than the boxy Toranas. And they were the underdogs, only a few Falcons against what seemed like dozens of Toranas.
I prefer to watch these old races than todays races. I know they are slower, but who cares. The field is so open as far as the variety of cars and it seems like the average guy could have a go. Now it's all computers and corporate dollars. Cars seem all the same.
Racing cars is not easy, I raced and the best finish I ever had was 6th. And yes you're right, racing is more boring and less entertaining. They've taken all the sportsmanship out of it.
@@Batman-wv5ng Yeah I know that, I am Australian and have always driven Aussie made cars. Currently drive a SS Commodore Ute. But it has an American made motor. Just stating the facts.
I went to Bathurst back then when men were men and cars were cars , wot we see today aren't cars , today they are just a kit with a skin , Ford and Holden are dead , at lest I saw them back in the day . After reading some of these comments I'm starting to think that we are getting old , well I am .
Yet for about 25 years you could buy one ie: XB john goss special for about 10K and one in very good condition, now they want more than a house, for something which is really not worth it, it won bathurst, yet the ford could not sell for more than around 10K or around 5 to 10K for years and year's, now they think its worth more than life itself ? XB GT coupes were selling for even less ?
That's pretty much how it always goes. Cars lose value for maybe 20 - 30 years, at which point they're worth next to nothing, and then, because most of them have been scrapped because they're worthless, the survivors become rare collectables and start gaining value again. And if it's a car which has a good motorsport history, it's value can get extremely high indeed.
The greatest days of australian open class motor racing then some galoot introduced a boring v8 ford vs Holden supercar race how BORING...well done motor racing you stuffed it all up..

Great quality footage, love the Ford Coupe's.
Same here, beefy, ballsy and FAT!
*Hardtop.
Got to respect the mini's still giving it a go at this stage, what a great car that was for its size.
Still competent in Class A.
I was there in 1974 on top of the mountain soaking wet👍👍👍
Seeing these old races really make you see how basic the trackside safety was in those days. The crowd on the inside of turn 1.
XA GT coupes were the best looking aussie car ever.
I was there , My first Bathurst as a 14yo

Thank you for this, nice seeing racing from other parts of the world.
God damn those old Cleveland V8s sound beastly. Wish I still had mine 😂

This was when racing drivers were REAL drivers, in real cars, racing with other classes of race cars? The princesses of today have no idea
Beautiful car
Xa falcon won both Bathurst races. 73. 74
when V8's sounded like V8's
Hmmm, the V8's that race today sound just like that. Dont see the difference.
Before they worked out how to build a good oil catch can system for the 308, those toranas were dropping like flies.
And it was anuother five years before the Cleveland was allowed to use one.
How much power were the Falcons putting out?
just over 400 hp .
more than the Holdens lol
about 450 HP at the wheels. :)
Yes, they had power.
Per regulations?
Buses for the production cars only not race cars the ones that you could go out when on a Sunday then go to your dealership and buy on the Monday

Anybody out there think that motor racing is better to watch nowadays?
No, John Australia. Cheers mate.
I was hoping to see a Charger.

yeah prices for our fords and holdens have gone silly, like houses they've made these things inaccessible to many.
@charlie How's that?
@charlie There are many spiders mate, not all are 'lil', most are deadly regardless.
@charlie good for you 🙄
