Safety tip here! Lauren knew someone was entering her unit, and that was why she was moving. She was just waiting to get out of there ASAP. Of course, this perp had her key, as he was the caretaker. This is why changing the locks didn't work. A simple and cheap method to block an inward door is to use two rubber door stops. Place one near the opening end of the door and the other in the center of the door. This makes it necessary to break down the door to get in, instead of just using a key to enter. This method is cheap and easily portable. You can use it to secure a hotel room door to prevent entry, or make a safer room in your home if necessary.

In the interview with the reporter, i think his comment about hearing people walk around was alluding to the fact that he was stalking her and monitoring her visitors. His police interrogation is as fascinating as it is disturbing. If i recall correctly, the interrogater commented on a lack of eye contact early on which led to the hyper contact through the rest of the interrogation.
I took his mention of other people walking around to be a suggestion that ANY one of them might be the ONE, to deflect the focus on him in that moment.
Very interesting. That makes a lot of sense with his pervasive antisocial behavior. I can see how that would result in someone like him becoming hyper focused on maintaining eye contact, while remaining completely oblivious to how unfathomably socially awkward he is.
