And I have to take into consideration that this shoulder (my left), and entire arm had issues before. I won't try for repair, for reasons too detailed to get into here, but I would love to know some legitimate exercises, or methods of treatment, etc., that could be done at home! I have read so many varying suggestions on line. One says heat; the other says ice. Once says immobilize it, while the next one says to exercise, to the point of the pain. Some say wrap it with an ACE bandage, or some type of constriction sleeve, others say let it be free. Some say keep it in a sling. There are so many different opinions, even someone with decent deduction skills, can't make heads, nor tails, of it all! Some say that frequent massage will help it heal faster, by keeping more blood flow to it. I have no medical background, but that sounds logical, but then again, would I actually be doing harm? I don't know, and that's the problem. There are a couple of points that they all did appear to agree on . . . I suspect something is wrong with my right bicep. From what I can gather from this video, it is not a distal bicep rupture, but the bicep bulges outward. I will be having rotator cuff surgery within the next month to month and a half.
It could mean alot of thing. Since its bulging outwards, you could have an overdevelopped bicep long head. But if it isnt it is potential you did tore your bicep. Whatever it is it never hurts to check on the doctor.

SEBI+ MY THUMBNAIL BICEP TORE AT THE DISTAL END, I STILL LIFT WEIGHTS AND FUNCTION NORMALLY, NO SURGERY AND NO I'M NOT CRIPPLED, IF IT'S A FUL TEAR, THEN SURGERY IS NEEDED, NOT NEEDED FOR PARTIAL TEARS
Would a partial tear still have a normal hook test? Would the tendon feel a little weaker or harder to hook? Can you hook a full rupture at all? Is there even a tendon there?
Plz can you tell me ..I had a distal bicep tendon I don't in april 2022 while curling weights i didn't hear pop but feel soreness and i after 2 days my elbow and bicep area get swollen and i was no bale to straighten my arm now i started gym I started curling weights and i didn't feel any pain or soreness but I feel like I have lost little bit of strength of my right hand while curling weights and like this case in video my right bicep has not moved up by even an 1 cm look identical to my left hand no change in shape and now I can feel my tendon of my right hand too so can you tell me whether my bicep tendon is attached or not or I need surgery
Hi. I have torn my right biceps 💪. And it deformed similar to what is in the video. But when I do the hook test I can feel the tendon is exists and strong. I’ve all right with twisting things but the lifting weights power was decreased 30%. Can it be partly torn ?? The doctor think so too. But how can it be partly if the muscle is deformed??? Thanks for the help.
The biceps is placed on "slack" when the thumb is facing you so it will not be so prominent. If you are getting a good "hook" with the thumb up, that is good.
Why do you curl to the maximun extend of your arm mate?, that's not healthy, I know you did, otherwise you wouldn't have wrotten the comment, never go full extension.
Tore mine in the same area six months ago . Hurt like hell when I did it n black n blue also . Left arm is very weak now even just showering . It was a freak accident that did it .
i detached my bicep at 26 years old and haven't had it fixed cuz no one wanted to do it. I'm 35 now and am starting to get chronic pain every day in the bicep area. is there a doctor to do some kind of surgery where they replace the detached bicep with a cadaver one?
Hello, this is more of a question, the day after I worked out I noticed a muscle knot right above my forearm where when you go to the doctor they take blood from that area, and when I bend my arm the knot sort of goes backwards towards my bicep and basically disappears, it's what guy described having, has anybody ever heard of this before? If so what is it?
WTF, did he just say you can opt to not get it repaired and just live with a tendon torn off your bone? Just live with the weakness since it doesn't cause pain? I would of thought something like this would be painful AF? That's just crazy a tendor is literally snapped off and in his bicep wound up like a tongue in a chameleon.
I usually encourage people to have the distal biceps repaired because it will limit you functionally more than a proximal biceps tear. I have seen some who refuse and they go on with life but have to modify their lifting with that arm.
Doc I have the exact same injury in the same arm. How can I repair it, as I do not like the way it looks and would like to resume mix martial arts, the pain really starts when I try to do pull-ups.
Great video. I have a similar injury. What was the recommendation of the orthopedic surgeon? Leave it or operate? If operate, what are the chances of complete restoration and how long is rehab, healing etc? Thx
@@OrthoEvalPal thank you. My orthopedic doctor said not to operate and live with the deformity the rest of my life. He was actually let go by the practice I’ve heard and not surprised. I’m 58, take blood thinners, but generally quite active and healthy. It occurred about 9 months ago. Swung too hard with my driver during a golf tournament. Heard and felt pop! Terrible pain. Feels ok now, I’m golfing and swimming regularly with no pain in biceps.
At this point. The repair would be very difficult and set you back. I have a friend not much older than me(50 y/o) and he didn't have it repaired and functioning very well. You will be fine. Best of luck!
I’ve been trying to do workouts, one time I heard popping in my shoulder and then didn’t lift for a couple of months. I lifted light a couple days ago and never heard a pop but when I woke up in the morning I’m not able to straighten both of my arms. It hurts to straighten my arms, hold anything, touch my bicep. It starts from my bicep and goes down to my elbow. Any ideas of what this could be?
I have a simular problem ..but I had the shingles on the left inner arm about 5 years ago...and at that time I had lower biceps pains right at that area ...I'm back at the gym lifting weights and trying to built up my right lower biceps muscle ..I lift weights for many years but not super extreme ...could this problem be related to the shingles I had ? Can I use weight lifting to bring back my right lower bicep muscle ? My left side is perfect the right lower bicep muscle moved up about one inch more or less.....I've been training normal with different biceps exercises included ....any recommendations ? I've been a diesel mechanic and tile setter for many years so I'm constantly using my arms working or at the gym.... Thank you, Dirk
Thanks. One of the best videos I've seen on this. Been thinking I had a rupture tear but I don't have the Bicep movement of your patient. Just frequent flares up of the distal area. Wait.. I think I just confused myself now. Ha. I HAVE tried to contact physicians close by but they're closed due to Covid or just plain don't respond back.
so based off this test, Mine seems more intact, no health insurance, never got an mri, but when to doctors , they did hook test , they said still in tact but I know for fact my bicep is slightly up higher, i watched this thoroughly , did my own hook test . would this mean a partial tear? i did a couple rounds of beachbodys shaun t insanity on it last year, no pain but i think the injury was about 2 years ago, Im able to shave no problem and do warehouse work and lift pretty good , but still looks uneven asthetically. Should i get an mri anyways? and i hear a 3 week window of surgery after the injury, how about if my injury is in fact partial would it still have to be 3 week window after the injury in order to do it. only issue is there is some spasm if lifting a heavier object like up to past shoulder length when doing warehouse work but I'm able to do pullups no problem so i dont know what to do here
I had a distal bicep tear sparring. It hurt like hell. Slight bruising the next day but hook test was good. My bicep looked just a hair different. Dr said it was a partial tear and to get it fixed. So I had it repaired. He said it a better repair as a partial tear as the tendon didn’t atrophy. Nightmare recovery but worth it in the long run. Get an MRI bro, peace of mind and maybe a needed repair before it gets worse.
@@mixonmixon2723 i appreciate the reply Im literally getting an mri 2 days from now, now have health insurance so i went again this past week. I appreciate you commenting ✌
I've seen from other sources that the preferred window is up to 3 weeks, 4-6 are questionable. After that, it is likely the tendon has retracted far enough that getting it to stretch back enough for re-attachment is extremely difficult, as well as some other complications. And at those extended time frames they may end up having to use cadaver tendons and other parts to do the repair, which is very expensive. Do not let any urgent care or Primary doctor blow you off just because you are underinsured or older. This injury is most common with middle aged men in their 40's and 50's (90%+ of cases), and sex/age discrimination towards men in the medical field is horrible. I clearly had a torn bicep and was blown off by the first urgent care dr I saw who did not do any actual physical exam or manipulation testing, no radiology, and said to simply ice it for 2 weeks before following up with my PCP,. I then got blown off again by my own primary doctor who slogged slowly through a very long process of doing his own xray (reportedly negative, but the xray isn't really the proper diagnostic tool for a soft tissue tear), then ordering a CT scan (which took a week and half), then when that came back positive for a an irregular deformity (described as possibly being a tear) waiting another 1-1/2 wks for an MRI referral to be approved, then again for another referral to be approved for an Orthopedic Dr. It took 7 weeks from beginning to end until I finally got to the Ortho dr, and by then it was too late. The medical system fails men miserably, and you have to be aggressive, assertive, and push hard to get fair treatment in time. God forbid you may be slightly overweight and clearly not a weight lifter or an athlete and they will totally blow you off in order to save their "insurance utilization rate" rating and keep it down at your expense so they get their annual bonuses from their medical group. They'll take care of the young adults or teenagers and younger out of principle, and take care of those with Medicare (because they can charge the government for everything and receive higher reimbursements then even those with insurance with no questions asked by the government), but if you are a middle-aged male they could care less. They'll tell you to just live with it.
i tore my biceps tendon 24 hours ago when i jumped for a pull up i heard a pop with pain😢,I'm 39 years old, today I have a scan, i would like to ask you ,the operation strengthened the biceps enough for exercises ?thanks.
I am sorry to hear that. This is a surgery that people recover very well from. You will be able to get back to exercise but I would caution against heavy high risk biceps work. Good luck!

5/17/2021 At the beginning of your video, you need to confess that you are not a medical doctor, nurse practitioner or any other type of healthcare provider, and that you are a PT. Also, leave to a medical doctor the diagnosing an injury.
I don't know what license, title or position he holds, but I do know that a physical therapist IS a healthcare provider, and truth be told, they know more about the muscles and bones of the body, that many of the doctors do, especially those who's practice is non-orthopedic. That's why so many doctors defer to their knowledge. That is their specialty. How/when did you learn of all the things that you say he's not, and decide to belittle the thing that you say he is? Just curious. 💞
And just from curiosity sake, I checked. In the description section, below the video, he list his NAME, immediately followed by PT, at least twice that I saw, plus it's the same in the video header! He has nothing to "confess", but you might!

Could be a partial tear. Could also be a muscle fibre tear (although less likely)
I had a partial distal tear and the dr still suggested getting surgery. Nightmare recovery if you’re active but worth it.
What would be wrong if the hook test works when my thumbs up but when my thumbs facing me I can’t hook
The biceps is placed on "slack" when the thumb is facing you so it will not be so prominent. If you are getting a good "hook" with the thumb up, that is good.

Today after bicep curl i got it sir, im so panic, so what can you give me suggest sir ?
Why do you curl to the maximun extend of your arm mate?, that's not healthy, I know you did, otherwise you wouldn't have wrotten the comment, never go full extension.
Tore mine in the same area six months ago . Hurt like hell when I did it n black n blue also . Left arm is very weak now even just showering . It was a freak accident that did it .
Just injure my biceps 💪 20 minutes ago, that’s hurt like hell....I am falling apart like the Mona Lisa with the injuries I am getting now.
oh no! be sure to get it checked out.
i detached my bicep at 26 years old and haven't had it fixed cuz no one wanted to do it. I'm 35 now and am starting to get chronic pain every day in the bicep area. is there a doctor to do some kind of surgery where they replace the detached bicep with a cadaver one?
Thanks for the video I had a distal tear two years ago but ligaments are still attached is there any exercise or vitamins that can strengthen them
This just proves how much the brachilias is the strongest elbow flexor!!
Yup!!
I have seen some who refuse and they go on with life but have to modify their lifting with that arm.
how to differentiate with partial tear?
Doc I have the exact same injury in the same arm. How can I repair it, as I do not like the way it looks and would like to resume mix martial arts, the pain really starts when I try to do pull-ups.
Great video. I have a similar injury. What was the recommendation of the orthopedic surgeon? Leave it or operate? If operate, what are the chances of complete restoration and how long is rehab, healing etc? Thx
Great questions! He had it repaired 4 weeks ago and doing great. I expect him to be back to full function in 3-4 months.
@@OrthoEvalPal What is the patients age? See comment above for reference.
@@alexisjigalin1006 70 years old. Did surgery. Awesome outcome. At 2 months was quite functional.
How to self correct?
Thanks for knowledge
Do u have to get surgery?
After surgery is it possible to get the same injured again and tear it ?
Yes.
Thanks. One of the best videos I've seen on this. Been thinking I had a rupture tear but I don't have the Bicep movement of your patient. Just frequent flares up of the distal area. Wait.. I think I just confused myself now. Ha. I HAVE tried to contact physicians close by but they're closed due to Covid or just plain don't respond back.
did it get better?
@@HeyIntegrity Yeah. I saw a sports medicine doc. He had me do stretches with resistant bands and after weeks it worked itself out.
so based off this test, Mine seems more intact, no health insurance, never got an mri, but when to doctors , they did hook test , they said still in tact but I know for fact my bicep is slightly up higher, i watched this thoroughly , did my own hook test . would this mean a partial tear? i did a couple rounds of beachbodys shaun t insanity on it last year, no pain but i think the injury was about 2 years ago, Im able to shave no problem and do warehouse work and lift pretty good , but still looks uneven asthetically.
I appreciate you commenting ✌
thanks
You bet!
The “right time” passed…didn’t it? I read you have 2 weeks to repair or it becomes very difficult to re-attach?
Good luck!
Thanks so much
Hello doctor I did distal biceps surgery but there is still a gap between my lower biceps and my elbow is that normal ?
I also had the op 2 months ago and was told by my physio it's normal to have a larger gap afterwards
@@neotropos but its still not normal
@@moebiceps7905 from what I understand the gap can get smaller over several months but I don't believe it will ever look exactly like it was before. In my case at least
I have the same injury, I've had it for 4yrs now, is there anything I can do to get it fixed?
Good question. Been researching and reading lots of comments and yes it can still be repaired but the surgery is more involved.
In the US how much does this surgery cost?
50 TO 75 K, GOOD LUCK, MOST LIKELY YOU DON'T NEED IT WITH A PARTIAL TEAR
I do bodybuilding/powerlifting and was pulling 765 pounds at gym last night and used overhand underhand grip also known as neutral and heard pull noise/sensation in my right bicep the hand where the grip was underhand. Some pain but by no means severe pain and this morning no bruising or anything. Usually with tear there is significant pain, bruising, and bicep looks like a tennis ball bunched up correct? I have none of those symptoms but I do have some pain and don’t have the strength or range of movement in my right arm I usually do. I do feel like the bicep did pull up from the elbow a little though but that could just be because it’s tight after the injury. I was icing it last night. I’m hoping mine is just a strain. What’s your opinion on it being tear or strain? Iv been lifting at a very high level for about 13 years and never had any serious inquiries.
Did you try the Hook test? You should seek an orthopedic consult with a Dr., PT or OT to clinically examine.
Mine the same. Waiting for physio now. Haven’t had the scan yet. Cannot do the hook test due to swelling
so what happened

3 weeks is a long time out. Maybe a walk-in clinic?

If I were to try do to strength training on my arm with the tear years later will I still gain muscle?
I don't think you will gain much because the underlying muscle does most of the work.

At the beginning of your video, you need to confess that you are not a medical doctor, nurse practitioner or any other type of healthcare provider, and that you are a PT.
Thanks for information
