Always cool to see how other candy makers make their candy, and all three of us would definitely watch a documentary version of Ron's stand! Thanks for another great video Greg!
This channel is legitimately one of the coolest things on the internet, and Greg you seem like the kind of guy that it would be a great night to sit down with you share a drink and just talk with. Cheers mate
But the Roman Candy Rum ... bring it and I'll talk. I bought one bottle, and I was doubtful that it would be any good. The Chocolate won an award for best chocolate rum somewhere (forgive me for forgetting where) so I got it, and then I thought a few minutes later. "How much competition is there in that category" My wife and I could have drunk the whole bottle in a night. It was amazing, even without mixing anything in. I need more.
Much of the music we use in this channel is recorded live. I think it gives the music an edge and an energy. It's also cool when you can know the people who make the music that you enjoy.
does this man have someone to pass this company onto? id hate to see it go out of business one day because I love the old wagon and everything about this, it's simply amazing
Roman candy was all ways in Audubon Zoo when I was a little girl. it was always a treat to get one even if was super sweet at times. I grew up on the west bank as a kid.
I live like 2 and a half hours outside of NOLA and it was always such a treat to go to the Audubon Zoo and get the roman candy!! Strawberry was my favorite! Its glue for your teeth but good for your soul!
If you got into making taffy, I would both watch and purchase gobs of it. Possibly the only thing I love more than hard-candy is taffy. As a Marylander, my go-to taffy is Candy Kitchen, based in Ocean City. I feel like if the weather was kind to you, then you would have a chance to outdo them.
Born and rasied in New Orleans. You need tried our seafood. Were know for it. And I rembemer when was 0.25 for 4 favor were strawberry, banna, and vallin and chocolate. They were the best and yummy!
According to Ron, they stopped doing more than just the three flavors (vanilla, chocolate and Strawberry) back in his grandfathers day, not sure when that was. And don't worry, I had lots of seafood, but as I live about 20 minutes from Apalachicola, the seafood was not nearly the treat other things were. Never really occurred to me that that sea food was just not what everyone had. :) I guess I take it for granted. Like I won't eat oysters if they are not shucking them on the boat that brought them in, that is tied up to the back of the oyster shack you are eating in. :) Also I suspect seafood flavored candy might not sell as well as I might hope, but beignet flavored candy might.
This brought back wonderful memories! NO is where I grew up and I have such fond memories of buying Roman candy at the cart whenever we went to the zoo. Watching the scenery and band playing makes me so nostalgic. Thank you!
I've watched and enjoyed all your videos already! Please make more! I beg you. the process of candy making is very hypnotic for me. It relaxes me to watch sugar being pulled.
I think it would be great to see the "documentary" style Roman Chewing Candy video. That is what I love most about the Lofty Pursuit videos- your commentary walking us through steps of process while doing them.
that taffy pulling and the shine that comes off the stretched sugar is pretty hypnotic. candy making is so strange it still seems like magic regardless of how simple it all may be
I'm born and raised in Gonzales La about 45min to an hour from NOLA. Ever since I was a little girl I would beg For the Romans taffy when we went to the Zoo! It is so amazing! I haven't been able to find anything like it! New Orleans is a beautiful place, Lousiana in general is beautiful! If you ever get The chance to visit you will love it!
Hi Greg, NOLA native here! I appreciate that you mentioned morning call, they had the best cafe au lait. Roman candy is the best part of a trip to the zoo, they have the cart there and I remember watching him pull candy as a very young child. Now my niece does the same, and when we were watching your video on beet candy as we enjoyed our Thanksgiving mix, she got excited watching you pull candy because she recognized the technique.
I'd love to hear Ron talking about his work! That's a really great idea to shoot these things in a documentary style. Great job on this one too! It's so delightful just like the rest of your channel. Thank you!
Absolutely loved this video. Our family visited New Orleans summer of 2017. Wish we had known about The Roman Chewing Candy and the Roman Candy Rum then. You are such an interesting person and share your knowledge so freely. It is a blessing. You are a talente artist no doubt.
This is so wonderful! I really hope you do release the alt format too. It would be great to hear him speak too and see what he has to say. But as always I love hearing your own voice through this and all your insights. It's always educational and makes the whole process really special. You have so much love for this craft and it really shows it how you speak about it in your own work and while watching others. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I'm very excited to see where this series goes!
I have to say... you are such a unique RUclipsr. Probably my favorite. The fact that you represent others in your industry is the best. Thanks for all your videos. You have a lifetime subscriber from me. :)
Besides that I like to do this, and this channel has given me the resources to travel and visit people all over the country and to learn and sometimes teach. But some of this is to capture peoples stories while they are still here to tell it. Traditions are hard to make, and easy to lose.
Just found this _ as a NOLA Ian we would leave class to buy this stuff. SO GOOD.... One of the best memories of NOLA, some of the old ways that actually didn't hurt people. Candy, food, people, craziness. Hilarious.
I've been on that train!! What a fun trip. Great music. I just got my "Lavender Image Candy"!!!! It is so beautiful! It tastes wonderful!! I can't help but hold each piece up to the light before I eat it. You did such an Amazing job on this candy. I really hope you keep making it.💖
