Hi Justin, I have seen many covers of this song using a 12 string guitar. Does that cover the two guitar parts, or just add some depth to a single guitar cover?
Hi Justin, respect and appreciate yourself, and the channel.... But, when Tom is playing this, he's using all down strums, and only using his wrist movement. Not swinging his arm at the elbow. And he uses an FM7 chord shape, but keeping his pinky fretting finger on the high "e" string throughout the song. Easy, and smooth transition to the C chord as you pointed out. The Am is perfect. But he sus4's the G chord in rhythm as he strums.
These aspects I have found from studying live shows, and film from live shows. All the best to you Justin, as you are a tremendous reference on RUclips, and I think your channel is one of the best available. Be well, and happy holidays to your family and yourself.
@@stillkickinbandgeorgianbay900 If you look at the title it says "Easy Guitar Lesson" - sus4, Fm7 and a drone string are not for beginners...
Singing Justin appearing in the middle of the twin Justins was a good touch. The more Justins the better !!
Like so many, Justin had been a huge influence on my guitar journey. I’ve played everyday since January 1st (with the exception of just 5 days) thanks to this man and his incredible tutorials. Thank you Justin. I can play the guitar because of you and I will be forever indebted.
I've been watching you since you started on youtube, and your singing has improved dramatically! Good job!
Same bro i even have some of his first tutorial dvds
Yeaaahhhh is true !!!! Amazing improved 👏🏻👏🏻
Loving the Dogs' contribution, I'm so glad you didn't edit it out! As I said recently, the vocals have really moved up a notch and add a lot to the overall effect. I'm just getting to the point where I can sometimes sing along so it gives me hope to see how much you have improved.
If there is a nicer teacher out there, I still have to find him. Thank you for all your amazing lessons, you are doing more than great👍
Maybe it's the whiskey but does everyone see three Justin's? Another great lesson!!
You only see 3???
Whisky*
Shots fired haha!
@@DMSProduktions You win the whiskey game!
@@paulleedean5720 SHOW me the way...
Fantastic work Justin. Loving the down up strumming pattern displayed on the screen. Makes it so much easier. Earlier videos I had to keep pausing and rewinding to write down the strumming patterns.
Love it!! Love your humanness in this video. You are the best. Thank you for more Tom Petty! Keep more TP songs coming please!!!
You can just tell he’s the nicest person… started my guitar journey with you mate.. Love from India!
Fantastic. Looking forward to hearing more Petty. Big thanks
I was learning how to play this the same day you released this lesson. Amazing. Bless you Justin.
I started seriously on guitar a few years ago with this channel and a few others. Now my tab list has 233 songs in rotation and I'd rather leave my left leg behind than my lil martin. Its been a life changing experience. I feel like I could live happy under a bridge as long as I had music
Thank you Justin Happy Xmas to you
That was awesome plus your dog, priceless!! You taught me , wish you were here. One of the greatest songs ever. Thank you 😊
Another great lesson Justin, loved seeing Ziggy too!!
Love this song was a big Tom Petty fan, nice tutorial Justin, you are such a nice tutor, we learn plenty from your videos.
First like, then watch! :) Justin: you’re just the best, love this song ! Many thanks!
Awesome as always Thank YOU ! Dude cool kemper sound :-)
Great, relaxed lesson. Justin, you have found your apex with Tom Petty for singing. Perfect cover. Thanks.
Thank you so much for teaching us these songs.
I dig your intros Justin 😎thank you for the great lesson🙏
Love the lesson, love the Tom(looking forward to more (Confusion Wheel?!)), love the humanity of it. They don't have to be clinical to be great. Thank you Justin!
Agreed great song…hell, Tom never made a bad song
awesome, thank you :)
Always loved this song as well as many other TP songs
Wanted to say thanks for all the lessons.
My pleasure! :) And Happy Holidays!
Hi Justin great again this lesson thank you so much for sharing 💯👌✌
Great vid. Love Ziggy.
Love how the second guitar part works with the first. Thank you Justin
Oh my gosh Justin your ontro video was dynamite!!! 👏👏💗💗💗
Love it whenever we get to see Ziggy... even if he/she does present a challenge to you and recording!! 😅 I really appreciate your lessons... I've used many this past first year of learning guitar... you make them very approachable but yet still show the parts that allow us to challenge ourselves!! Many many thanks for all you do!!! 💝
Great lesson for a great song! I have been trying to play Learning to Fly for almost 30 years and always thought to myself, "this seems like it should be easy, but something is missing." You really captured Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' genius in this song -- the mastercrafts of timing and precision. (See also the "perfect cup of coffee" story by Warren Zanes.) The 2nd guitar on capo gives this song the sound of a whole symphony of strings.
Thanks for giving me new insights on one of my all-time favorite songs. Can't wait to see your other Tom Petty lessons coming up.
His voice is amazing.
love Tom Petty...bring on more...
Sounds fantastic. I'll be onto this tomorrow. 🙏
Have fun!
Justin, this is an awesome one for me to get going.. I loved it with 2 guitars... going to do my own recording soon on this nice tune.!!!!!!!
Great song
Thanks Justin another brilliant insight how to chill out and just enjoy playing, Tom Petty always a favourite of mine, love your dog stealing a bit of limelight.👍👍
Love this song learned this ages ago lively song
Love this song, thanks for sharing this with us.
You are the best guitar teacher on RUclips.
If you can't feel it you'll never play it.
Love seeing your furry kid, take care of yourself and your family and stay safe Justin.
From Charlie in the States.

J'adore super
Hey Justin! So Cool that you can still make light of your faux pas (OMG! Thin Pick) and I can laugh along with you! Not taking this stuff so seriously all the time is key. Granted there is a time for that but it's all about having FUN as well! Thank You for what you do all these years Sir!
GREAT cover Juz! \m/
More of such easy/medium songs please 🖐️🖐️🖐️
Liked that you did not edit out the capo missing, the dog, and you forgetting the chords. Have a nice day!!
Thanks Justin,. Not only did I get a great lesson to a beautiful Tom Petty song, but I also got to meet you wonderful dog.
Thanks Justin very cool lesson and something I struggle with is the strum timing when it's chords changes on up beats and not so straight so this will be very helpful and also a cool song too.
Love it 😘 keep the dog cameo coming Justin 🙂
Nice one Justin. Enjoyed the dog episode too.
Great job man..I've learnt absolutely loads of stuff from watching you..I rarely comment..but you my friend deserve a good comment. Loved that...I'm playing catch up at the moment..been in hospital for a long time. All fixed now...take care
Tutorial on Crawling back to you would be awesome 🤩
Thank you for the great tutorial! Ziggy was a 👍 great touch. Isn't it funny how dogs seem to humanize us?
My wife loved the dog and the rug, me: loved this lesson as I do most of them ( not your fault Justin, just me being hopeless on guitar ) Merry Xmas from Australia
👍😁🎸Thank you!
Happy with any appearance of Ziggy!
Love song .m8
Oh great singing too
:)
You are becoming a better singer Justin
Wow. Three Justins is too much power for one video to hold.
More Tom Petty!!
More Ziggy! ( and more TP please). Thanks for the lesson
Super
Yes more Ziggy!
Beautiful Dog!🤣
Thanks for lesson!
Double ... Triple Justin for the price of one....Great lesson... Great playing
Haha! :) Have a great weekend, Sandy - thanks for ur support! Always see you around and appreciate that x
@@JustinGuitarSongs You're welcome.. it is thanks to you that I can actually play the guitar.
If you have a 12-string Rickenbacker...the capo part would be nice for that. Great lesson. Good dog. Don't worry...we like your dog! Woof Woof...Learning to Fly!
Great i love the Dog
I love how you said hello to Ziggy!
Awesome to see Ziggy ☺️.. maybe you can do some "Iggy" lessons some day 🙂🙂
Really good. Thanks
I’d love it if you updated Pink Floyd- Wish you were here strumming.
Why?
Nice
👍👍👍
Yeah, go on Justin, great singing, just a question of time that you get really sure and confident in your singing
Thanks! :) Happy Sunday!
I love Ziggy, Give him a harmonica next time. Thanks for this lesson. Rock on Ziggy!
The C and G are pushed. They come on the 2+.Great song and it'll be fun to play.
Haha the little doggo. Tom Pet-me.
Fantastic. I suggest this getting smoothly between chords: I don't hear the high e-string in the recording. If you just plat the inner 4 strings A-D-G-B, keeping the index down on the B string for all but the G chord, I think you get something like the signature sound. That and as you demonstrated well, the consistent strumming.Your lessons are gold - I will become a paid subscriber shortly.
Other songs with that steady mechanical strum are CCR "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" or Lennon style on "All My Loving"
Petty also played this with all downstrokes in a few concerts.
Tom’s MUDCRUTCH stuff and his albums that just came out , Angel Dream and Wildflowers and All the Rest, also Finding Wildflowers…all 10/10
I like the capo song
Always know dogs will make things better regardless haha 😄
Make wildflowers by Tom petty pleaseeee
I figured the dog swiped your capo! Mine run off with my picks and clipon tuners.
This track, and Face in the Crowd, are great examples of Tom's right hand technique. It's a straight up metronome.
Yep
Go Ziggy
dude this is weird that yt recommended this whilst i was listening to that song
Love Ziggy! LOL! Whatever happened to Tammy? Did I miss the end of her lessons?
The pan-damn-demic came along.
Cheers 😊

You might do the solo Justin please
MOAR ZIGGY!!!
Great song Justin. Have you thought about Square One or Dreamville or Southern Accents.

Ziggy clearly wants to play guitar, jamming good..
My goodness Justin you're getting younger looking!
Amazing Band ;P haha
I swear by the Nylon Dunlop .88mm…smooth…can hardly hear the pick hitting the strings, plus has grip. On electric I use the Dunlop Hetfield wolf picks 1mm
I prefer the live version where he leaves his pinky on the 3rd feet of the high e-string for all the chords (without the capo)
Hi Justin, please do a beginner friendly, finger style tutorial for 500 Miles.
Hei Justin! I guess you've been also listening to Radio Paradise lately...!! :) Cheers from France!
