Btw are there any PBTA Games that folks would like me to cover? Let me know down below or in this response as well! I am open to hearing about them all?
These are mine :avatar legends, masks, root u are already doing, wicked ones, scum and villany, and is there a good pbta with martials and spellcasters that is balanced? cant wait, love the work!
Aster Armor Advent was one of those games that I fell in love with when I started reading it's playbook. As a fan of anime, It got me super.hyped. Also I was shocked when Roots had a PBTA Game. I one day want to play it! How about you?
Do you agree or disagree with my assessment of what is a PBTA game? Let me know! I have been playing games like World of Dungeon (rules light PBTA inspired game) and have been having a blast.
Aww finding a group is always the most difficult part. I recommend trying r/lfg on reddit. Or maybe visiting your local boardgame and/or table top gaming shop to see what options they have there! Also maybe there might be a Root discord but that might require some digging Cesar. Good luck on the search.
It's so hard to get people into PbtA games because of the fact that it has no defined combat rules in my experience. Which is a shame; I kind of like how I don't have to constantly stat things out for a change and can focus purely on the story.
It definitely is a change of place for players. I enjoy PBTA games similarly for that. It is narrative focused so less concerned with stat blocks and more concerned with how games and encounters in them will move the narrative in fun and/or interesting ways for everyone. What PBTA Games have you played?
I'd love to use PBtA as a springboard for a monster hunting/magic school campaign inspired by something like RWBY or Strixhaven. I was thinking of using Masks as a model, but my biggest snag is coming up with story ideas.
If you are looking for a game that is super hackable and a decent blueprint into PbTA simplicity, then look into World of Dungeons by John Harper. It is very bare bones old school dnd dungeon crawling. The nifty part is you can add whatever you want into it and sprout off into your own game! Check it out Gneech! johnharper.itch.io/world-of-dungeons
@@Blerdy_Disposition I'll take a look. :) I'm not really looking for "faux-OSR," so good ol' Dungeon World might do the job just as well; I'm more in need of something that catches the "monster hunting school" vibe. Maybe Monster of the Week? Still looking. :)
1:30 - One thing for PBTAs, remember the fail-forward philosophy. Not finding anything stops the story right there and there's no advancement in the plot. You investigate to find the treasure: You find a dead man, and an empty map-case. You recognize the way his throat was slitted. The Gang of Vicious Vincent got him first, Vincent has the map and he's on his way to get that treasure. With your telescope you can easily spot them... A failure means you don't know where the treasure is, but you know who has it and it is the worst person possible!

What about Masks?
@@giuseppepiuma1965 I would love to cover Masks and plan on covering it in the future in a few weeks. So hold onto your masks. ☺️
@@Blerdy_Disposition fantastic!
@@giuseppepiuma1965 I know their are plenty of expansion books so I likely won't cover them all. But thanks for the suggestion ☺️

Never heard of Aster Armor Advent sounds cool.
Also I had no idea Root was a PbtA game! That's awesome

Found this video because: I like the art from Root but don't have a group that would want to play the boardgame.

Maybe check out the Mythic GME, I feel like it might work well with these high narrative, rules lighter style games.

@@thegneech yeah monster of the week. Also kids on brooms? Regardless good luck with the search!
@@Blerdy_Disposition Oooh, Kids on Brooms is a new one on me! I knew about Kids on Bikes. I'll check it out!
Can't roll a 1 on a 2d6 roll. My butt is hurt. Cool video, though.
You can if you have -1 to your ability score

Should have mentioned that in the video but this is a great point here. Seriously, that is a core principle to PBTA games for sure!
Great vid, fun, interesting and well put together! Wanting to GM a non-5e system and I'm getting lost in a sea of 30min plus videos...!
Yeah it can be annoying watching a 30 minute video. I try to keep it concise and simple.
PB & J.
Thanks
Has NOBODY seen Porco Rosso?!!
I have not seen it in quite some time but I believe Flying Circus TTRPG takes inspiration from that movie as well as Hayao Miyazaki's other films!
Genesys ain’t mainstream
Oh snap do I mention that Genesys is mainstream? My bad. It definitely is more niche.
