Joe Smith is soloing on the second theme and Tommy Ladnier seems to be the lead trumpet on the third theme (in minor)

Definitely three trumpets here, Russell and Joe Smith and Tommy Ladnier.
No comment about stylus size, because this sounds superb. A friend of mine has one (yes one) Expert made truncated elliptical stylus and literally every record he plays sounds perfect. And he has used it for over 25 years.
Very cool how you do this, and superb sound.
