They say RTFM, but I could do it ten times and not catch all the minutiae of infinite depths of Maschine. Enter Jef on YT, and now I get it. Thanks ever so much!
Thanks Marko! For me it’s: I read the manual 10 times but never really get all of it until I have to teach it in a video!!
absolutely. this was probably the most relevant, coherent, and useful Maschine Mk3 tutorials I have ever seen. thank you Jef.
I'm watching videos to see how other people implement their workflow with maschine, but in all honesty, I haven't learned one thing from any video that I didn't already know just from spending hours playing with the thing. I never once read the manual.
But I also used to cover my computer screen so I learned how to do everything from the hardware. All except name a project.
Hi Jeffrey, I'm Stefano from Italy! Just a little thank you for your work.
You are one of the rare RUclipsrs who rigorously get to the point on your videos, avoid too much useless information, or self-promoting continuously.
You are creating excellent content for us, and I hope this is a small gesture to help you keep making these videos, especially for Maschine MK3 users.
Heartfelt Thanks.
Stefano
Thanks so much for the tip Stefano! Really appreciate the support!
Stefano can I ask you for a favor, more for your opinion ?
Thank you so much for great tutorial! Now I'm gonna use all of it!) ❤
What an incredibly informative video this is. You've helped me quite a bit. thank you so much!
NI should hire you, you are making the best Maschine Tutorials out there!
They have! I did a video for them last year… and they help me out with Affiliate links!
Agree. They should have a statue of you outside there headquarters.😊
thank you Jef Gibbons !Good job !Nice video
Just got the mk3 and this video is soooooo useful and very helpful so thank you!👍
Hands down best Maschine mk3 vids out there. Thank you
Jef, you are the man! Thank you for these videos. You are helping me tremendously with my Maschine +
Was actually looking for midi editing videos from Maschine hardware yesterday. Thanks!
Perfect! Thanks Evan.
Just watched it a third time, this time I was clever enough to write down the parts I always forget 😀 Thanks a lot for your work, Jeff!
Got 2 extra great tips... 1. In event view, to select the notes instead of using the 4 d knob ,you can use the left and right arrow (left of the screens, above the power knob.) 2 and this was huge for me in m+ you cant quantise the length. 1/16 note is 240. Sometimes whilst playing you have those super thin note, or you want it to end perfectly at the end of a 16th. The trick is where it says length, select a note and turn length to the LEFT fully, and you will see that the note will be perfectly 1/16 or 240 for length. Great when you use adsr, for easy visibility, or have the notes overlap 2 16th to have a perfect legato/glide every time one for the 808 bass fans. Try it,this helped me so much for different stuff. And 3 😁 great tutorial as always Jeff. Thumbs up 👍👍👍
Thanks for contributing!! Appreciate the tips!
great tutorial. cheers!
Best Tutorial I've found. Thank man
Thank you! I didn't found this information in the manual (M+). Very clear and helpful! Thanks for the great produced videos!
Thank you so much for all of this. After three years of owning a MK3 I'm only recently starting to really use it. This and your other videos are hugely helpful to me.
Soooo helpful 🙏 Sometimes I don’t know how to articulate why I’m asking to do in the manual, and this is a game changer. Thank you.
Very nice tutorial, well explained, easy to understand. this is something I personally had problems with machine mk3. Edit notes without a mouse only on the hardware.
All your videos lately have been just in time! I was struggling with navigating my notes in the + last night. Thank you for this!
So glad to hear that Justin!
Thank you so much, Jef for another classic and smooth video! Learned a lot - where would we be without you? Keep it up and coming!
Will do! Thanks!
im not making note heavy beats yet and normally keep my mistakes in my beats and make movement with them but I still love all this detail for workflow and evolution. thank you
another excellent vid - thanks for making the best, clear tutorial vids on the M+ of all YT channels 🙂
Appreciate your support!!
Awesome! Thank you, I needed this tutorial.
Glad to hear it Sean!
Amazing tutorial. Thank you!
great video, will have to check it out slowly because there is a ton of tips
Yes! I threw in a ton of chapters so you can get to the relevant parts quickly!
learned a lot in less than half an hour. Thanks !
This is the first video which covers in detail so many questions I have bevor I buy the maschine. Thank you, great work :)
Thank you very much Jef =). I’ve been using maschine+ for a few months and your tips have been quite essential
So glad to hear it Bastian!
Really the best tutorial videos out there. Thanks.
Appreciate it Sona!
What a great tutorial. I learned so much. Thank you for putting so much into your videos. That is what sets them apart. Anyone looking to learn Maschine + or MK3, this is your guy!!!!
seconded. very helpful
Lots of stuff!
Wow. Incredible tips, thanks!
Jeff this is mindblowing!! You elevated the respect I already have for the M+ and also for you ! I see know why they call it Maschine, it's truly a machine.
It is! Glad it helped Fabian!
Downloaded the new community drive yesterday and started a new track with one of the kits! Very nice donationware. Im a micro user and to be honest i hate the idea of working on a device any more. I started with Maschine 1 and rarely used any if the hardware features beyond the pads. Lol. I come from synth hardware and drum machines. I never liked having to learn all of the the quirks and bad nav decisions hardware designers made. When i moved to software I realized i preferred having my tools on screen. I like having a good midi interface to interact with my software which gives you the best of both worlds and with the limited features on the Micro make it actually pretty useful for me. Watching your tutorial and seeing all of the button push nav nonsense you have to know and remember to do some thing that i can do easily on my computer screen with a mouse and keyboard reinforces why i made the decision to work the way i do. All of what you’re doing eventually becomes second nature but getting there would slow me down for far too long. As always thanks for the content! Whens your next interview show happening? I really enjoyed the first one and am looking forward to whoever you interview next.
Nice one, thanks Jeff!
thank you!!! very useful!!!!
Thanks!!!
Wow! Really useful stuff ! That’s awesome 👏
Thanks Michael!
Erase + group can be used to make alternate scenes with momentary beat drops! So I’m definitely one of the viewers that’s happy to learn that you can do that!
Thank you!
HANDS DOWN THE BEST MASCHINE TUTOR OUT THERE... the tips, the context, the example. Jeff man - you are NAILING this.
Thanks so much Jack! Really appreciate it!
Brilliant, thanks Jef!!!
Appreciate it Old Yella!
Usually I get confused on how to change the velocity of a note after the fact. It isn't really obvious but makes sense when "you know"
For sure, I was learning new things about this when I was making the video!
Super useful! Thanks
Best Maschine video ever! Thanks Jef 👍🏻
Thanks!! Glad you dig it…
Excellent
“Events” LOCK!!!! Yes, thank you!!! Man that’s been killing me.
That's an important one! Glad it helped...
I discovered another way to select individual notes... the page left and page right keys. Normally these would scroll through different pages of settings for the knobs, but in select mode it moves from one event to another within the selected sound. Cheers to your great vids.
Dang, nice tip!!
Man this is the video that transitioned all of us from hating maschine to loving it
High praise, thanks Al!! There’s always a moment with Maschine where the switch flips, I remember that feeling!
Priceless! Thank you, Jef. I felt disabled by teaching myself with NI videos and the manual when I first had Maschine. It's such a complex tool box, I got overload very quickly trying to remember both hard and software techniques and then produced nothing because I was always stuck it hampered my progress and put me off using Maschine.
I can keep coming back here to refresh or gather skills slowly and most importantly discover for myself, using what I learn.
No problem! I get it… trying to learn Live right now, and if I step away for a couple weeks I have to relearn things!
It's actually so simple because it's limited and only thing is to remember what you learn through reading...and that's what is a problem a reading and that leads to another problem that is called Hypocracy because people they identify with the devices and become fans which is wrong for many reasons.
Fantastic! This exactly is the knowledge i was missing already in my first 15 minutes of using Maschine+. Wasted a lot of time instead of progressing through quick start guide on NI's web page and their short, very general, no-depth yt videos. Because i already had ideas during onboarding and was lacking Maschine skills (and hoping exactly this will be explained along the way in those basic training materials).
Glad to hear it! It’s an amazing device… have fun!
So helpful ❤
Fantastic fantastic Jef 👍🏿
Thanks Kiel!
Thank you very useful and helpful Tutorial
Appreciate the feedback!
I wish the Maschine Jam was incorporated into this. Great video Jef
It’s coming!
Super tips… Merci. 👍👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks fab!
Wow what an outstanding video Jef!
Towards the end I started to get what you meant about it all coming together to create a really quick tactile workflow. Monitor screen off for me for the next period so that I can grok that :) PS Sent you some coffee money!
Jeremy, thanks so much!! Really appreciate it. And yeah, I kept planning to learn this stuff really well, but kept going back to the keyboard and mouse. The M+ forced me to use the hardware and I think it's worth it!
What an amazing video Thank you so much Jef I always enjoy your show if you lived closer I would be bugging you for private lessons :) but it is a long drive from Ontario :)
One day! Thanks Jukes ;)
This video has been a gamechanger. I've been trying to create jungle style chopped breaks and have struggled. Up until now I've resorted to mouse clicking in the software which for me defeats the point of maschine. This video changed everything and I now feel so much more proficient editing/adding/removing hits in the hardware. I'm even at a point where I'm creating complex rhythms and rolls just by coping and pasting and editing things like velocity and pitch. Thanks a bunch Jef!
That’s great Freddie, thanks for sharing!
Nice. How do you adjust the volume of individual notes in a pattern though?? It just doesn't seem to be working for me!
Maybe it's something to do with using fixed velocity or, I can't seem to do it!
Dude, I produce oldskool jungle and rave, and just bought the Maschine Plus. But as soon as I tried to load my breakbeat library to the SD card, the bloody thing either slowed to a painful crawl and / or froze. Seems it doesn't like to stream external samples and loops that aren't in the NI library. So, have you got any tips if you're loading classic breakbeat loops in this box?? Please advise! 😁👍👍
@@JackAcid sorry dude I don't use Machine Plus. Just regular old Maschine 3. My breaks samples are just sitting in a folder on my laptop and I've added them to my user library and everything loads and plays fine. Maybe try the NI forum. People are always pretty helpful on there
This fills so many blanks for me. Thank you, Jef. I recently bought a Maschine Plus, having got used to the software with my Mk 3 Maschine. It's a struggle.
When you did " shift grid" , my screen had so many more options than yours and changing these made no difference to the rate at which the play head jumped. I did notice that in the event window, at the top, my screen shows 1 2 3 4 yours shows 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 . Watching again, you emphasise the "Arrange" setting in Grid mode and of course I had missed that.
U got urself a sub champ
hi Jef
this is a great tips, and great tutorial, this show are amazing potential Maschine2 and Maschine hardware are, hopefully with future Maschine Mk4 with a bigger screen it will even more easy with more uptade possibilities for edited directly on the hardware
I love Maschine cause it is way easy and intuitive and fun to do music on it, very fast une can have a whole project done, the patterns and Fx group with each expansion are a great base of for starting a production and idea very quickly just increasable
I really love Maschine for me it is the present and futur of modern DAW with direct total integration with hardware Maschine and Kontrols S series keyboard
Yup! I love the hardware, hopefully we get more integration with the S keyboards soon!
@@jefgibbons yep I still don’t understand what went through their mind to take off any integration for S3 MK3!!! What about the base that use Maschine! I mean very stupid decisions from them! how do you want to improve Maschine and make it better if you don’t promote to use it! 🤦🏽♂️ I myself manager!, and promoting it’s a big part of make known your product and then improve it, by what the user notice!.
I love Maschine2 i got 2 keyboard S2 mk249&88 maschine mk3 &JAM
And same they decided to discontinue the JAM AND iMaschin2 for IOS!!! When iPhone and iPad are way more powerful and faster! I think 🤔 the new board don’t have the revolution idea of the fonder of Ni to creat NATIVE products, and change the MAO, the United ecosystems of Ni products! The new board seem to be more marketing money driven that created NATIVE instruments and softwares! So I know you “work”closely with them so let them know please.....
Form iMaschine2 to Maschine2; to maschine Mk3 micro, Jam, studio, Mk3 M+(in my opinion wasn't ready, processor to weak… but great product) to A serie keyboard to S2 Series with all the United ecosystems this is what make the strength of Ni, and I think the key it’s to make amazing Daw sofwares for iMaschine3 for IOS to Maschine3 as DAW very strong and unique! they just need to improve it Maschine2 and promote it more and more in their own tutorial and not Ableton live 🤦♂
yea so far thats the only thing i miss from my Studio is those arrow keys in the play/rec section. they were fun to use to set loop points too
Thx! The missing pieces of the puzzle! Ahah
Great vid!
I learned a ton making this vid!
Nice tut, another video idea is to do the same thing for the perform button.
Good idea! I’ll put it on the list…
Hi @jef Gibbons! Very helpful video! It's definitely cool to see those tips in action. Hey what's the stand that's housing the MicroFreak! I've been looking for a stand like that to no avail. Thanks!
Thanks! Check back 2 videos in my list, I just made a video talking about the stands! (it's the keyboard slider video)
@@jefgibbons Will do! Thanks!
@Jef Gibbons I'm not sure if this is a new feature but they're actually is a way to add notes without copying them now in events mode by pressing the pads, Numbers corresponding to the grid squares.
Thanks for the info Jef. Is there a way to keep the note editor stick to the notes in the scale that you choose?
I’m Dave, thank you!
This workflow would be much faster and more useful for me if you could hear the notes sound as you edit them on the piano roll or with controller as with most DAWs. Can't understand why they've never implemented that.
10000% agree!!! Near the top of the list for feature requests!!
Excellent video! How long did it take you to master the maschine+? Do you have any videos using the machine mikro?
I’d say a year to feel super confident, but I spent loads of time reading the manual and making RUclips videos that solidified my knowledge!!
I wish we could like a video twice
You should some erase options/methods that I didn't know were there!! 🤯
This video is a perfect example of why there needs to be a Maschine mk4 with a large capacitive touchscreen.
Won’t argue that with you…
My goodness Jef, you know every crevice of that component! How did you do that???????
Thanks Jeff! I do a lot of manual reading!!!
Hey Jef, how do you hook up mk3 and the kontrol 49 together at the same time?
how about if you want to add a fade in or out on a specific note so that it transitions nicely into the next one?
I love your content but would love more deep dives using the studio hardware. With at least version 2.12 and newer. I am having a super confusing time trying to learn it cuz most videos are really old or they are only for the newer hardware.
What studio hardware are you referring to? Or you just mean Maschine in general?
@@jefgibbons machine studio. 2.12 . Yours is one of only a very few that covers the maschine studio with the current software.
Hey Jef, where did you get that Maschine stand?
Would you have any tips on looping sounds with a long tail or with heavy delay or reverb? I want to record an external synth with that in mind. Like a multi sectioned song (scenes). By the way, all of these videos are fantastic!
Thanks Rich! I’m not sure what you mean, do you mean a sample with a long tail? Or do you mean one with a bunch of Maschine effects?
@@jefgibbons I'd like to use the onboard effect of my external synth. :) and pedals if possible. For example, I have a Microcosm Hologram.
Hi jeff. really useful video
thankyou. just wondering, i use maschine inside of logic pro x as i find it easier for my workflow, but the shift and 4d encoder doesnt move you around ur events when inside of logic, only when running maschine on its own. anyway to change this? any feedback would help thanks
it doesnt make much difference, the two nobs under the right hand screen is what i have to use instead to move the playback cursor/ area thing where i want
Is there a way to make the monitor screen mirror zoom in and out used on maschine mk3 or plus.
Just add , now it works to select note in step mode with arrows or wheel , even faster :)
Gotta check that, thanks!
I like that shirt Jef!
Thanks! It's actually a recreation of a shirt I had ages ago... my kid is pretty savvy with the shirt-making art!
@@jefgibbons Oh nice! I wish I had one! because I use Native Instruments myself!
It’s time for them to start selling shirts!
@@jefgibbons I agree!! That shirt is amazing!
Instant click and like!
Does quick edit only work in step mode?
Edit: You showed me a way right after.
This was awesome! Only question (did I miss it?). How do I get the zoomed in 2nd screen to automatically follow the first screen? I can’t find a setting for it anywhere on my M+
Hi Michael! Press the Follow button down near the transport controls on the hardware... that should do it, let me know if it doesn't!
@@jefgibbons Holy cow! How have I never noticed that button over 4 years? Thanks!
@@MichaelGilboe it’s impossible to get everything… I’m still finding basic things I never noticed!
I really miss having commands to invert the notes in a pattern to quickly try out variations. I hope NI implements this soon
Can I use Arturia "V Collection X," "Analog LAB" software without a PC using a USB drive on Maschine+ and XDJ-XZ Effects pad?
Jef + Others -- I am getting back into using a Maschine Mk3, after being away from it for ~1.5 years. I have found that some of the workflow button combinations I learned don't work at all anymore. I have pulled down the 'latest'(?) manual for Maschine Mk3, and some of the documentation is still wrong. So I can't depend on the Maschine Mk3 manual. Do you feel that the manual for Maschine+ is more accurate for getting to the latest workflow 'button presses'?
I haven’t noticed that problem, though the manual situation is confusing with separate manuals for software and hardware… can you give some examples of things that have changed or aren’t working for you?
Is there a way to "stretch" a bunch of midi notes?
❤❤❤❤
6:11ish does anybody know how to adjust the length of a note below 120 without holding shift? I'm assuming it is possible it's done in the settings
somehow
On my screen my play head moves. But the screen on the right doesn’t follow. How do I make mine do that? 3:59
I know this sounds crazy but how do I adjust the individual volumes of notes in a pattern, using the M+ hardware?? Velocity isn't affecting the volume or moving the fader on the note up or down either. Seems so simple but I can't figure it out 😰
Edit: is it anything to do with the fact I'm APPLYING TO GROUP after I chop samples, rather than just applying?
Hey! Make sure “fixed velocity” button isn’t highlighted… that would fix it!
Jeff, as a Maschine, and Ableton user - is a used Push 2 worth the investment if I already have the MK3? I don't want to leave the NI ecosystem, but I think I prefer Ableton as my main DAW - and having a dedicated/integrated controller as hyper functional as the Push 2 seems suuuuuuuper fun.
Hey Rian! I have had the Push 2 for 6 months and haven't had time to really work with it. I'm planning a video soon comparing it to the MK3, but already I'd say if you can afford it it's a sweet piece of gear! Can't edit notes like you can on the MK3, but playing stuff in with all of those pads is awesome. My only concern is that it is so old, but I don't hear any rumours of a new one, and I'm not connected with Ableton so I have no idea!
@@jefgibbons Appreciate the reply, and the content as always sir. I feel the exact same way about it. I've got a little Launchpad X, I'll test out that combo for a while and keep watching the prices on the Push 2. They are getting really reasonable lately.
is therre a way to edit cutoff, reso or pan parameters of single notes directly on MK3, just like you edit velocity?
Do you mean have note specific parameter changes? You can use step automation… and I’m working on a video for that!
@@jefgibbons Let's assume I'm making a hi-hat and I'd like to have every second note filtered or panned precisely at xx%. The length, velocity, position and tone adjustment is right there, different parameters aren't that easy to edit though. looking forward to that video then :)
Yes this fits in nicely with my request too, though I 'm
... imagining from your reply here Jef, that you can't actually embed an effect onto a single note, just basically turn it off for the others. Looking forward to that vid Jef, they're all so very useful!
@15:54 😁
Jewels.
I though note editting on maschine is bad, noe when I know how it is on push 2, I think note editting on maschine is great.
Soooo no legato?
Yeah! Definitely… you mean just for a sampler in maschine?
@@jefgibbons I've been looking for an automatic way to set the notes in event view to end exactly when the next starts but couldn't figure out how. It seems to be possible to do it manually for each note like shown in this video but is there a shortcut for legato on the whole even like it is with quantizing? It would be very useful with bass lines or leads etc
not sure you're still on this channel, but hitting shift and moving 4d encoder is not moving my cursor, rather it's illuminating buttons on the right screen, for example in event mode it highlights 'quantize' and in pattern mode it highlights or turns off double duplicate create delete bank....the one thing it's supposed to do it doesn't do. is there a setting that is askew on my system?
Not at the maschine right now, but the cursor is spinning the 4d, not clicking it… no? Can’t remember, but try spinning!
@@jefgibbons hey jeff...thanks for getting back..yah...it's got me beat...turning clock or anti clockwise the 4d E should move my cursor on the hardware...but as indicated it's only impacting on buttons above the 2nd screen....i'm sure i've got a setting wrong somewhere but if you have a moment when yer next at maschine...could you let me know how i should set this up...i've aleady input data into my grid and in either event mode or pattern mode i should just be able to move the cursor, but as indicated 'i can't'...agghh
@@dkkrecordsAre you on Maschine or Maschine+ specifically?
@@jefgibbons hey jeff..i'm on maschinr mk3.... been trying but still getting 'no result'...kinda weirding me'
hey jef, i had hoped i could solve this, but i've been searching e'where, then came back to your presentation and i'm doing it right in that to move the playhead, or cursor, you have to hold shift down....every other element working in events n' patterns is good to go, but the moving of the cursor remains unsolved...dang!
You have an awesome last name
An ape!
Or the guitarist for ZZ Top ;)
1 to 10, how happy are you with the Maschine+?
@@publika6883 I'd give it a solid 7, I have a video coming where I talk about it and who it is for... and it is not for everyone... you have to want to get out of the studio and away from the computer! Needs a battery and a speaker... But it is so powerful when you compare it to similar devices... and being able to work in the Maschine environment so seemlessy is great if you're used to it!
@@jefgibbons not what I what I wanted to read because I just ordered one but thanks Jeff!. Appreciate you.
