Ahhh😊 Most of the most influential teachers on my life were in a super rural public school system, late 70s through mid 80s, 6th - 12th grades. My 7th and 8th grade Science teacher, (Casarotti) originally from Italy, cool accent. Her husband, from WY and AK, Jr High math and Wrestling Coach (Bruckert). English Lit. teacher (Beckman), used to ride his bike to school rain or shine and it rained a lot (prob at least 7 miles one way, and he was a runner). Last but not least and most impactful, my World History teacher, occasional Vice Principal (Radcliffe). Reedie Duck type personalities for sure. Also, my Jr High guidance counselor and Woodshop teacher. Plus, too, my HS drafting teacher (Bridgman), back when it was art (now lost art). He was really good, a master at drafting with various pencils, a real board, with real paper, dust brush, and an actual old fashioned tri-edged scale, with 6 different units of measure. Importance of tolerancing nomenclature was made clear. Gee, he was also our Track-XC coach. Oh, and my typing instructor, Ms. Barton. She was tough but the best imaginable. Crucial skill, typing - in today's IT based world. For over 20 years now they've called it "Keyboarding," naturally. 😊
She is such an amazing lady, and I am so glad that she has such close bonds with her family. I just wish Marisa Tomei would make more movies, since she is an outstanding actor.
Just saw My Cousin Vinny for the first time. Marisa Tomei was so outstanding in her role of Mona Lisa Vito. So perfectly cast and no wonder that it is a classic and that she won an Oscar. 🙂🎬
Awesome that you finally saw a classic. I saw all of these movies in real time, but three of my favorite romantic movies starring Tomei are Only You with Robert Downey, Jr, Untamed Heart with Christian Slater, and The Perez Family with Alfred Molina. To me, all of these movies showcase not only why she deserved that Oscar, but every accolade she has ever received for her talent, which is phenomenal. Oscar, where she plays the drama queen daughter of Sylvester Stallone is an honorable mention, but only because people are sometimes turned off by the 1940's Abbott and Costello/ Groucho Marx style farce that the movie is. I personally love it.
But it seems only Europeans know it 😢. My family is from India and I know my Grandfather was from one of the most ancient cities there, but thats all I know 😢
Loved this type of Family History! On a side note...I'm STILL wondering after all these years how Marisa Tomei was smitten by George Costanza?!? Some mysteries are just better left alone!
Fascinating information. Miss Tomei, thank you for sharing this with us. I do find it funny that I just watched you in "My Cousin Vinny" last night! ...You've done well lady!
most italian americans come from southern italy, very few from Tuscany (comparatively), so I find this fascinating, and she does have a very middle Italy looks
Oh man, I've had a HUGE crush on Marisa for many years and this has reignited the flame! 😆 She's not only beautiful and a talented actress, she's smart, funny and a genuinely nice person (and she's apparently found the fountain of youth because she doesn't seem to age).
I have one other interesting observation....I'm wondering what influences the percentage of citizens who are fluent in English between countries in which English is not the primary language (if that makes sense). The amount of English taught in schools?...the amount of commerce with English-speaking countries?...and/or maybe a national pride factor that decreases their desire to learn English? As an example, I saw a documentary on the Netherlands and everybody they interviewed, from children to older adults, spoke perfect English, even though their primary language is Dutch (the same has been true in other interviews I've seen of Dutch citizens), yet in interviews I've seen with Italian (and French) citizens, very few spoke English and they required a translator. Just curious. If anybody has some insight, please let me know.
@Christopher B. Braxton Dammit! Oh well, in my mind it was filmed this week and she will be calling me tonight! Sorry, I gotta go...I'm expecting a phone call.
She's 47 or 48 here. In real life women that age aren't still this gorgeous. If I was 20 and saw this version of her walk by me not ever having seen her or heard of her I'm pretty sure my heart would start pounding.
