I live in Guelph, Ontario Canada and have just returned from visiting your area of Georgia. I have to tell you how much I enjoy the two of you exploring these cemeteries (as we did the same on our vacation). You are so very considerate, respectful and concerned as to the condition of these headstones as well as sharing their history by reading them. Thank you so much, The Other Robert and your lovely partner and I look forward to more videos in the future. Take care, Wendy
A great video Robert, i never realised there was so many private/family cemeteries in the USA, here in England the only private cemeteries were for the wealth land owners and Royalty.
When many of these families settled here there weren't actual churches in their areas yet in a lot of cases, just traveling ministers. Because of that, family cemeteries are all over Georgia and America in general. These cemeteries are actually on grounds that these families owned at one time. That's why they're common here but not in the UK. Burials were not regulated in Georgia before the 1860s and family plots were not regulated until the 1900s. Existing family plots on home grounds still may be used if kept within State guidelines.
I don't remember how land lotteries operated, but people would receive parcels of land, out in the middle of nowhere, in the woods, unseen, and unknown, where they were expected to carve out a living (usually by farming). There were few churches or organized grave yards, so when a family member died, they were laid in the dirt, on a parcel of the family's land because there was no other place to bury them. That would be the beginning of a family cemetery.
Made of zinc, the white bronze factories were under government war contracts in 1914/ WW1. Marble and other natural stone monuments became popular after WW1.
Loved the beautiful cemetery and intricate details on the headstones, I never knew that pure rain water would clean that well, you're so respectful and you're both thoughtful and caring. May they all rest in peace. Looking forward to your next video, both of you have a blessed week. 🙂🌻🌷🌼
My husband and I are thoroughly enjoying these videos of yours. Thank you so much for spending the time to visit cemeteries, film, edit, and share. We are learning so much. Best wishes from Middle Tennessee.
You and your lovely producer do such a nice job visiting cemeteries. Thank you for your respectful comments and taking care of the little ones' monuments.
7:40 - That white metal gravemarker- I know of two of those exact markers up here in South Jersey, one from 1866 and one from 1882. The size, shape, and decoration, front and back, are all identical. As you said they were ordered from a catalog. We always used the term "white metal" for that type of metal. I remember that the ends of the rear fenders on my `72 Buick were made out of that metal. The manufacturer of those gravemarkers used the trade name "Monumental Bronze", as far as I remember. My books are in storage, so I can't look it up though. 22:46- "Today is May the 16th". Really? I know there's a lag in getting videos uploaded, but that was almost 3 months ago! :) Very interesting. I always love the old cemeteries.
Don’t worry Robert , I’m always trying to hide my stomach ! Love your accent and the cleaning of the graves such a labour of love ❤️ Greetings from the land down under ; Drysdale Victoria Australia 🙋♀️Julia
Very interesting video. The water and brush goes a long way towards cleaning up those stones enough to read them! Thank you guys for taking us along on this adventure!! ❤
You need to get one of those portable sprayers. (Like you use to spray plants etc.) I think the hold about 2 gallons or so. They are great for cleaning off tombstones. Thanks for another 😂video
Thank you for showing this historic cemetery. Chill young children died in the 1800s because of sanitation, the lack of it. No vaccinations and antibiotics were not invented until 19:45 and in the beginning it was expensive, and it was for military men only.
This cemetery was very interesting. I was so impressed with the different n beautiful headstones. Many were very ornate. So sad of so many children who died. Just a simple cold could of turned into pneumonia. Back then medicine definitely isn’t what it is today. I do hope you come back Robert n Mrs. Robert to help clean up many of the headstones, No worries about not having your green shirt. We love to see you n Mrs.Robert sharing your heart felt travels in finding old cemeteries. What a team you make. PS. You got the green hat that’s good enough for me. ♥️♥️😊👍👍👍🌟🌟🌟
God Bless you all for doing such a wonderful job in finding these and cleaning them so nicely...love hearing the stories...such a shame all the children that were lost...keep up the great work you are doing...
Hi other robert and friend doing a good job of naming the infants headstones 🪦 👏 it's like they visited for a short time that's why they had big families at that time all the best Andrew south wales uk 👍 👌 😀 🇬🇧
Beautiful place to rest, i love looking at the older graves, I'm drawn to them always.. I'm getting the D2 since there is many old One's you can't read.. God bless . I also have a channel and do Cemeteries in Wisconsin.. 🙏 ❤
Hi other Robert I love going on your adventures in the cemeteries and you are both so caring and do a wonderful job cleaning the headstones and can hear the love when you read the names of the people that have passed before us I cant believe how many babies died then and could have been a bad virus . Robert is going to have to give your green shirt back to you as only you can wear that shirt it's made for you and hopefully he will see this plea from me to give it back . So I'm begging Robert to stop the nonsense and give you back your shirt it's not funny anymore ROBERT GIVE THE OTHER ROBERT HIS SHIRT ONLY HE CAN WEAR IT AS IT LOOKS THE BEST ON HIM 😊THANK YOU ❤ . Love going on your adventures other Robert and cant wait till the next one. Hugs to you and your wife have a nice week, Maria from Massachusetts
Someone is going to have to find your shirt for you so you can match with your hat. Thank you for this tour. We have purchased some D/2 and hope to be able to use it soon. Take Care and Keep Cool.
I just found your videos and have enjoyed the few I've seen. I'm anxious to see a follow-up on this video. I'd love to know if you did any research on these families and perhaps find out what happened to some of these children. I know children's deaths were more common in those days but it seemed like there were a lot of them in that cemetery. If you do a follow-up, would you please link it to this one so I can keep a watch for it? Thanks for all you do!!!
Children and mothers would die of septic poisoning through the umbilical cord. In the 1800’s doctors didn’t know to sterilize their hands and caused infections. The doctor that first suggested that they wash their hands died driven mad by the screams of the dying.
In that big grassy area it looked like there were some indentions, as you guys call them. I'm thinking there may be some unmarked slave burials in there.
Robert I hardly recognized you without your signature shirt. I thought your producer came with some one else!🫣we don’t care about your stomach we just like your handsome face and personality and the sweet face of your producer /photographer. We so appreciate you taking us along with you. Thanks to both of you. ❤
You gotta remember that Robert has been working on the Byrd house and tht the Other Robert lives a couple hours South of him. Other Robert and his missus are documenting the ones down by them to help keep the channel going.
I hate that green shirt and so happy you are no longer wearing it🙂The Daniel headstone was so pretty, and Loved the Forman headstone as well..Really appreicate you both being out there in the heat, but really should bring an umbrella in all this heat,m and bring plenty of water not for the headstones but for you both so you do not get heat stroke..
Wow, the brush and water bottle is definitely going to stay in my cemetery survival bag!

@@nancyholcombe8030 Thank you for the reply, finding out how things work in other countries is always interesting.
Has anyone ever mentioned why the white bronze markers fell out of fashion? They hold up really well & can still be read many, many years later.
Made of zinc, the white bronze factories were under government war contracts in 1914/ WW1. Marble and other natural stone monuments became popular after WW1.

A garden sprayer with some diluted vinegar and some dish soap would go a long way in getting the lichen off. Uses way less water too.
A couple videos ago Robert explained exactly why you should not use that on marble.
This is so very beautiful and I think you both. God bless you both 🙏❤️🌹
