Many thanks for posting this David, much appreciated. I did this simple mod today and that induction roar is something else, very impressive. Thanks again
Ok....I have to update my comment. I asked a question. Yet I answered it shortly after. I did do the mod to my 23 suzuki V-Strom 800de. Noticed a very nice power increase. Thank you once again for the really great information. Stay safe
Finally got to ride since pulling the foam and removing the snorkelers. I was surprised by how much good sound was added. I wear earplugs and it was still very noticeable. Sweet!
Thanks for the tip on this! Gonna try it this weekend and see if I can hear a difference. Do you think a Sprint filter would add anymore gains in addition to this mod? Can't wait to see what numbers you can get after you get the 8S tuned!
@@shustyrackleford7356 i have a filtered getting here this week to test and i have a new airbox lid coming to test if the holes are made larger of there is even more gains
Adding for info. Have the 8r, rode 300 miles stock, and last 200 miles with this mod. The sound is fantastic, I noticed a 1.2 mpg improvement in gas mileage. Note this was a new bike so I don't know if that had anything to do with break-in, perhaps someone can comment. Didn't notice anymore power but does seem to clean up the nasty little dip this bike has around 5k a bit. Bike sounds like it should sound from factory now. thought airboxes were tuned, designed to resonate at the torque dip, thereby giving essentially frictionless airflow through the snorkel at the rpm where the engine was having the most trouble making torque. I wonder if the snorkels are really just there in an effort to reduce noise and meet Euro 5 regs?
In a perfect world that was not limited by physical space or epa sound emmisions your statement would be true. Airboxes like many things are a compromise

Thanks a lot for your video ! I made a recording (where I put a direct link to your video) of how it sounds: ruclips.net/video/7g1ThEWLNjY/видео.html Besides a better sound, there is indeed a performance improvement. Post modification, the traction control light sometimes blinks at WOT in second gear (it never happened to me with the factory air box setup).
So there is absolutely NO reason not to do this mod EXCEPT that it is illegal. Well,. in some countries or states nobody cares but at least in the country I live in this would not be road-legal any more and I risk the bike to be confiscated any time on any rideout. Perhaps worth noting it in the video. For those saying that nobody would notice: It's been even mentioned in the video that the bike sounds different after the mode (ie. it's louder). I guess the foam alone wouldn't change the sound noticeably but likely not having a noticeably effect either. Kudos however to prove your point with a dyno run. Even if I think it's absolutely not worth it. You gained 1HP and 1Nm peak or max. 4HP around that 5kRPM dip (might also have been a bad dyno RUN as there is no reason to believe that in same gear at 5kRPM where you don't even have maximum airflow throughput) it should dip more than at peak (maximum airflow required). So think twice before doing the mod. You won't notice anything in your daily rides but you might operate a bike which is not road-legal any more.
