My First Week in iRacing

- Still racing, sometimes improving. I put in something like 40 races in my first week so I picked a couple to try and show some progress. I've been streaming the whole adventure on Twitch if you want to check it out
Twitch streams: / nelloracing
Playlist of all videos so far: • iRacing (in order)
You are terrible right now, so many mistakes. Keep it up. Subbed. Laps and time and you'll be right up there with the rest. Been iRacing for nearly 3 years and I can relate to ALL THIS. Never stop learning.
😂
I'm pretty sure he streams and this is all footage from months ago. I think he's c class now
@@SmeeCake It's god damn addictive... so much so, I am just about to load in 🤣
I'm yelling at the screen "MY BROTHER IN CHRIST. STOP RACING AND GO PRACTICE."
Reminds me of the first time I hooked up my wheel and pedals and tried to drive. Just no sense of the handling, something totally foreign to me lol. Almost 2 years later I'm 3k iRating lol.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA rollercoaster of emotions reading your comment
13:37 "Oh no" is about right the first time you feel the limit entering a corner. That was a good fast entry, it just feels scary after you've been braking so early for so many laps.
Took a while to feel comfortable going around corners with any speed. Still working on not going around with too much speed
dude I laughed so hard, can relate so much. You are a great fair racer even though your speed is still not there, keep it up!
I really hope you keep making these. They are great!
your video just gave me so much more confidence in how bad im doing after starting yesterday
Somebody has to finish last 👍
An actual rookie video, instead of someone who played another sim for years claiming to be a rookie.
First, you aren’t coming close to using all of the track. Turn on the driver aid 5hat shows you the line, where to coast, and where to break, at least until you memorize it.
Second, be sure to turn off tire changes and turn on the pit speed limiter before entering the pits. The lower classes have one instant repair, so all you have to do is to get to your pit stop and you can resume with a car in brand new condition.
Third, be careful after the finish line. Any time you go off track or collide, it still counts against you. You can improve your safety rating by carefully driving around the track the rest of the way because those turns count as well.
Fourth, if you want to get out of rookies quickly! start from the pits and do everything you can do to not have any incidents.
Good luck! Post more videos!
been a long time since i saw someone this bad ! The video is very good ! exited to see your way to the top :)
the best thing I can say is when you brake, try to be at the edge of the track. that will help a lot rather than sometimes be at the center.
Welcome !
( see the video about my first iracing race... it was so similar ! )
Good racing and good luck in the future for your racing. If you didn't know there is a basic helping tool you can turn on that will help you with your lines and brake points. It will really help you while you learn.
Great improvement! Remember the old saying "In order to finish first, you first have to finish". Also use that pit limiter to avoid bombing it into pit lane.
But be careful with the FF 1600 it does not have pit limiter. Not sure about the Vee. Have yet to race that
I eventually bound the pit limiter button but it took a while. It felt like cheating for some reason
Yeah no pit limiter on the ray or vee and the MX-5 only has it in first gear
I just got my iRacing subscription. I have spent 6 hours driving round oulton park in the bloody MX5. Finally managed a 1:58 - and then stuck it in the wall on the next lap. That car is sssoooo tail happy! Maybe we will meet on track and cause absolute chaos!
The night before I started playing iRacing I was driving the MX-5 in Assetto Corsa and it's wildly different over there. Are you going to stick with the MX-5 when you get out of rookies?
@@NelloRacingYT Not unless they gave me a bloody good reason too. That thing is awful!
you deserve more subs. this is some quality content
This is so wholesome. Dude you a rock star. Enjoy!
I was wondering if I really should start with Iracing since I’m rlly slow but after watching your three videos you gave me the confidence to do! I’m gonna do my first race tomorrow (im still rlly bad tho) . So yeah great vids and you earned another sub!
have fun man....yeah it looks like first week or first day.... actually this is an exciting time cause you improve everyday and have many AHA moments....in a year or two... it gets harder to shave time
I've just downloaded it. This was highly entertaining. Keep it up 👌
Keep at it! Good tip is to watch the on board camera of the fastest racers in your sessions, good for seeing where to brake, what gear to be in and what lines to be taking to get the best lap times.
To get out of rookies dont worry about being fast. Clean races with no incident points will get you there
once in race lobby, any incidents count in both practice and quali, also make sure you uncheck tyres and fuel when using a fast repair...your getting a new car anyways and it comes with free new tyres and a tank of fuel/gas
I eventually figured out how to edit app.ini so I no longer need to uncheck tires/fuel which has been amazing
Video was a good laugh, makes me happy seeing the small progress too. Try to not hold your brake as youre turning the vehicle, doing most of it on the straight leading into the turn.. will help you leave corners faster = faster laps
I actually enjoyed how upbeat you are, even when you mess up. Can actually learn from you !. Enjoyed watching your adventure and good luck in the future mate.
Dude this channel is gonna grow alot, shit was hilarious, hope to see u in the gt3 series one day
Day 5 was much better. Tips? 1. Put your speed limiter for the pits on. 2. Change your pitstop so it DOES NOT re-fuel and change tyres by default. 3. Brakes. Brake hardest initially, then gradually ease off until the apex (trail brake). The braking trace on the telemetry should go from nothing then vertically up to max (max without your wheels locking) and then an an even trace back to zero at the apex of the corner. 4. You can join a race as a spectator (hit the "watch" button after the a race session has started and you can actually race as a ghost car. no i-rating or safety rating calculated. You can see the other cars, but they cant see you. This is a great way to practice. 5. Keep at it! Regards, Chris.
How do you change it to not refuel and change tires automatically? I have to change this setting every race 😢
Did you work it out? @@swordfishfogel4988
You can change it in the app.ini file. It's hidden away in the iracing folder in my documents
Pit limiter button bound, pit stop no longer automatically refuels or gives me tires, braking is still a mess 👍
Don't worry takes time. As long as you are enjoying yourself.@@NelloRacingYT
This is so bad it’s good 😂👍🏼
“Omg I’m so slow” I’m still telling myself this to this day lmao. Keep goin!
You need to slow the car down earlier for corners. And something to remember is there is a "pool" of grip available. Every input removes grip left in the pool available. If you are braking at 75 % into a corner then you only have 25% left for steering inputs. On these cars there shouldnt be a problem with exit grip if you set the corner up properly. Also smoth is fast for racing but that means smooth on all inputs including coming off throttle and onto brakes.
Love this vid simple, yet effective keep it up bro! Just subbed and it only took one vid!
is the race over oh no the race is over
I swear I died laughing 🤣🤣🤣
no harm in using the racing line especially when you drive a new track/car combo. you may not be fast but it helps with a safer line through corners to get safety rating
Keep it up can see the improvement over the video. What pedals do you use (loadcell pedals help with consistency and feels more natural)
I started with the G29 combo including the shifter but I've since upgraded the pedals to the Thrustmaster T-LCM. It's helped a lot with consistency and it saved my left ankle, the G29 brake has a hard rubber block in it that was killing my foot
Oh man i remember that week at oran park with formula vee was it really 8 months ago?? I think my best time was a 1:19:7 without slipstream
love the video man. keep it up
Wish you luck with ya journey man, be watching 😊
hahah i remember my beginnings :'D this is so fun
You got this! Try to only use 80% break in the mx5 you’ll have far more control, that helped me a lot!
I've been focusing on that a lot, I didn't realize how bad hitting ABS is
Avoiding it saved me like 2 tenths a corner easy. @@NelloRacingYT
Looking forward to seeing more of your Twitch stream videos remixed like this. 👍
that upside down oh my god, haha haahaaa i laughed so hard
Nello, where have you gone? We all miss you, and wonder where you have gone!
Good work - getting better.
I just started yesterday myself, a lot to get used to, I started on a wheel at the same time so I'm getting used to iracing and being on a wheel, practice, practice, practice
Loved this video man, I just started as well and am having a very similar experience lol
Loving the content, keep up the good work
Great vid nello
LMAO ! Your definitely learning the hard way bud . Have you ever seen any videos about surviving rookies ? glhf
I did! It may have taken me a little longer than usual but I got out of there
Eagerly awaiting the next installment….
How are you recording your screen and game sound? Great content btw, enjoying your journey.
I've been using OBS to record and stream at the same time. Below the start streaming button, there is a start recording button and I've been backing up every stream to an eight terabyte drive
Hey nello when are you going to be back going live on twitch you are missing all the league races
Can’t wait to see him in the 2025 Daytona 24
Im hoping to start playing this week but i feel i will never get outta rookie races lol
Keep it up.Then You'll make your day!
imagine signing up for iracing and your first track is oulton park with chicanes lol
Let your brakes help rotate the miata. You keep going 10% throttle mid-turn and understeering. Once your car is rotating into the corner fully and carrying as much speed as possible for that corner entry, you can start laying on more throttle progressively each lap
It took me an embarrassingly long time to really understand how the throttle affected understeer in exits
@@NelloRacingYTkeep turning those laps bud we all have space to grow :)
Would reccomend getting something like vrs or driver 61 you can look at lines more closely and breaking markers. It makes such a difference. You joined at a good time daytona 24hour race is not to long away!
I have Garage61 and got accepted into the trophi.ai early access (although I haven't used it yet.) Garage61 is so good!
One thing that you need to remember in rookies. You should pretty much not care about possition and the race if you ever want to get out of rookies. Irating is irrelevant at this point. Safety rating is what you need to look at, this will get you promoted to D license. I would saay don't try to push and find the limits on the races, do that in practise sessions where safety rating does not count. Also for the race, just sztart from the pits, let the carnage finish and get out there, prioritize finishing with no safety rating penalty, don't worry about the result. Once you will get out of the rookies you can race
I sub. Youre just like me. 😂
keep it in neutral on race start. rev the engine and shift to 1st when the light goes green
Try turning the wheel less, Youll find that you will actually turn more. Your getting more understeer by turning it more than it needs to.
Terrible driving, but thats great content, subbed.
- Tillyneuve
What base/wheel/pedals are you using?
The whole G29 setup in a homemade wooden simrig
At the end of a race dont pull off the track. You still get Off tracks and they work against you
Nello you got to join Michaels hosteds
We stream at the same time!
Bind a button and use the pit limiter 😉
I do eventually I promise! Although I use the pit limiter button not the auto one
The only way is up mate, maybe practice more before a race though
what spotter pack is this?
I started off with the default in game spotter and then installed crew chief, the default spotter in crew chief is Jim
tip number 365. Dont put the relative on. Its distracting. Dont get drawn into everyone elses race. Do your own thing and it will come
I still have the relative on but I turned off the Delta because I was too obsessed with chasing green numbers
@@NelloRacingYT Yep - thats exactly what I mean. Dont chase the numbers - that never ends well
First week in iracing?
You got over 900 starts🤔
I started in April and recorded all of my streams. I've just started going through the footage now to make videos. The description in the first video explained that but I forgot for this one, sorry!
@@NelloRacingYT alright👍
Pretty sure mx-5 use paddle shift now days
They do! I was doing 3 races with the MX-5 and then 3 with the Vee and I found it hard not to reach for the H pattern in the MX-5
On your level it's better to learn how to drive in Assetto Corsa, not iRacing. Because in AC any rookie mistake turns into crash easily XD. You will learn a lot quicker (for example stop pressing gas on the entry).
I did drive a little bit of Assetto Corsa and some American truck simulator but once I started playing iRacing I was hooked
How is it possible that you dont understand you need to get as closer to the edge of the track as possible. You literally said "I payed for the whole track so im going to use the whole track" as you literally stayed in the middle of the track lol jesus
you are ace.... at being bad
Maybe practice before you do real races???
This isn't even racing, an 8yo kid would smoke you... People with such poor driving are a nightmare when it comes to lapping traffic. I suggest starting on console first.
It's too late, I'm an iRacing addict
My advice is get out of IRacing before you start spending anymore more money. There's way better racing sims available that you can buy, and more important, own, not rent. £500 in 3 years down the toilet.
this is realy the worst looking sim there is
iracing is a garbage game.
"That's just like your opinion, man"
I’ll send you the discord link to a server full of chill people that would be willing to help you if you want.
This has to be a joke
Started at the bottom no we here, one step from the bottom
