I loved the chatty bits. When Alex said " I don't wanna talk too much" I thought no please keep that in the video. It's so nice to have a longer video with real conversations. Thank you 😊
Oh my god when I saw "Brussels, Belgium" in the title I clicked SO FAST. I wish people would visit my tiny country more. There's so much beauty here and people don't even know it. I hope you enjoyed your short stay!
I'm glad you had fun. I am a little sad there was not even a slight mention of how anything but sustainable festivals like these can be and how it can be improved. They were shooting fireworks when we had code yellow and orange for fire hazard and the whole festival provided a lot of trouble with litter. Trouble for local inhabitants it causes also. ;c I know people go to this festival to get away from reality, but I wish people checked in with it before and after to make things better.
The whole ketchup thing being the secret ingredient in the curry that Alex mentioned? It's true! My husband is Indian and he cooks amazing curries, and quite often he will add a bit of ketchup. I couldn't believe it when I saw him do it the first time, but he told me he learned this from watching a chef cook when he was growing up in India.
This was such a nice vlog, so cool hearing Alex talk and you guys sharing your school anecdotes. Very happy to see you enjoy yourselves and your friends, I hope you'll get to see them more often then!
Oh Madeleine what a lovely vlog. Belgium 🇧🇪 looked amazing. Alex made me laugh , my children attended private school and asking my daughter aged 5 what she’d had for lunch she replied “green gunk” next day “orange gunk” third day, “I think they mixed the last two together because it was funny coloured gunk” she was only 5!!!!! It brought back happy memories xxx Much love to you both xxx
It’s great to see you two so happy! Made me wonder, if it’s not indiscreet to ask, do you guys ever regret living in a fairly isolated place compared to your days of living in Brighton for instance? I would love moving to a quiet place in the countryside someday but really appreciate the social opportunities my city can give, especially now Covid seems to be finally declining.
I totally feel you. My boyfriend and me live in Berlin - we do love the variety of restaurants, shops etc but the older we get the more we want to move out of the city to the countryside.
that's funny how a few people waiting and running to the train bother you but not the thousands at Tomorrowland, both would be a nightmare to me but especially Tomorrowland 😆🤪
My Nan used to make my packed lunches in school. She’s make us sandwiches for the beginning of the week and then cold pasta meals at the end of the week. I’d have a different snack bar everyday, like a penguin bar, a club bar, time out bar, blue ribbon... im now vegan and I miss all these childhood bars now that I’m thinking back on them x
I’m so glad to see you loved my home town Brussels! You should stay a little longer next time and also go to Brugge,Gent and Mechelen! Really love your vlogs ❤
I was veggie at school and I swear everyday for 3/4 years I ate mushroom stroganoff 😂 after 14 I had packed lunch which was a cheese and tomato sandwich, a fruit winder, a banana in a banana case (which I still own! 10+ years later) and some ready salted crisps 👍 very English lunch hahahaha
My mum works in a primary school who do ‘Meat Free Monday’, she runs an eco club after school where kids learn how to grow, compost and about recycling etc and everyday there’s veggie options that are by default vegan 🥰
Omg this unlocked a memory.. when I was little I didn’t like normal breakfast food (still don’t really) so my dad would make me egg noodles in chicken stock every morning before school 😍
So wonderful you visited Tomorrowland which is just where I live , so we had 3 weekends of music and fireworks around our house 🥴😆, glad you enjoyed it as indeed its an increadable festival and Brussels also has so much to offer. I always love your video’s, thanks for sharing and have a wonderful week ahead 🍀
Always had packed lunch at school (much to my family's dismay as it was just an extra job for them lol) - always had a ham sandwich or jam sandwich, yoghurt, piece of fruit, water, capri sun or fruit shoot or something similar as a juice drink, cereal bar when i got older for break time, and sometimes crisps or a biscuit! I'm 27 and I remember exactly when my secondary school became a healthy eating school after jamie's school dinners and the tuck shop was removed and all the vending machines only had cereal bars and water in them hahaha
Also to be fair to Alex, everyone at my school was on free school meals because I come from a low income background, so v few people would have paid for canteen dinners!
Re the discussion on 'school dinners' my State schooldays were in the 1960s and these were much less of a fast food nature than they became later in the U.K. We would have fish and chips on Fridays but the rest of the week we would have things like meat pie, chicken (no nuggets) mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, cooked vegetables, salads (nothing vegetarian or vegan then! Everything was based around meat or fish!). You would have very traditional desserts like apple pie, rice pudding, steamed puddings and custard. Only water on the table drink wise. At primary school there were no tuck shops until we got to secondary education - just types of crisps sold and no fizzy drinks and the tuck shops were only active in the break times.
Up here in the north east, i used to go to public school and early days packed lunches. I was quite picky lol i used to have crisp sandwich, blue riband/penguin/carmel wafer/breakaway and fruit. Capri sun or sunny d, fruit shoot drink as well in rotation. Then when i went to secondary school i had a lunch card from money my mam saved from the milk man change and in the morning went to 8am breakfast club and had a warm sugar donut (they were so yum!). Lunch was a pizza square, little bag of chips and schoolmade flapjack square. Was the best lol not so healthy but back i didnt seem to put weight on due to pe etc. I remember jamie olivers tv lunch shows they were so good.
The video was beautifully put together. You're already generous with what you share, so it's good you have private times also, especially as it's your holiday break. My Victorian ancestors were from Brussels, but I've never been there ~ maybe one day!
Maddie and Alex this was so much fun. It was like my husband and I were riding in the car with you. We are so glad you two had a wonderful time. My mom would put in my lunch box a sandwich, fruit, milk in a thermos and sometimes a cookie.❤
I work as a teacher in a state school. Almost all food now is the equivalent of ketchup and pasta. Or, if you want the "healthy" option, you can get potato with baked beans. Anything that isn't beige or red (and sweetened) has disappeared. Cookies and waffles etc are the norm
Omg the ‘beetroot caviar’ from The Botanist menu is one of my favourite things EVER! So sad the one in our town closed. Great to see you had a wonderful time in Belgium 😊
Hey!! Madeleine I really really enjoyed watching your Belgium vlog so so much you inspired me so so much and I wish you reach 600K Subscribers very very soon!✨🌸❤️
Danish lunch box 1997 (when I was a kid) Every day for 4 years; open top sandwiches made of 3 slices of rye bread, liver paté, ans slices of 🥒 No wonder that i am vegan now 😉
I just had to comment... On minute 21.08 you can see a guy with an Argentinian flag 🥰 by the way, I'm binge watching your videos! A big hi from Argentina! 😁🇦🇷🇦🇷
You definitely need to come back and do vegan Brussels properly! There are a few good places with vegan waffles, definitely better places with vegan pizza, gelato shops, etc. I'm more than happy to share my suggestions :) I've been exploring the vegan Brussels scene for a few months now
We were only in Brussels for the one day as two days of our time away were spent travelling, and the other at Tomorrowland! But yes next time we will definitely check out the vegan waffles!!!
I work in a school and your conversation about school lunches is so interesting! At primary school, KS1 have lunch provided for free but KS2 pupils don't. As a (mostly) vegan/vegetarian, I would not give any future children the lunches.... they're so bland and tasteless for the most part due to government guidelines on flavourings
I love the conversations! No, it's not a joke. Many Indian restaurants use ketchup. I pack my kids' lunches: pizza on M, Charcuterie on T, French Toast on W, PBJ on R, and either a croissant sandwich or corn muffin with hotdog in on F. We make the food except for croissants because I can't be arsed. I pack a fruit, a veg, and a small Yum Yum Earth lolli. They take pretzels, tortilla chips or popcorn for snack and water to drink. School cafeteria lunches in most of the US are...not good. p.s. I miss music fests!!!
I started packing my own lunch in sixth grade when I was aware enough to realize the school food was awful…stewed tomatoes and mystery meat. And you had to eat everything. I drank my milk and put the tomatoes in the carton to throw away.
Music festivals are my idea of hell 🤣 - crowds, overpriced drinks, etc but glad you had an awesome time. And Brussels looks beautiful. Can I ask where your white dress is from?
My sweet father would make a nice sandwich for me, ham, tomato, lettuce on his homemade bread. By the time I got to eat it four hours later, the tomato had made the bread all soggy and almost dissolve it. It was always so disappointing and yucky, but I’d eat it anyway. For years I never said no tomato or put it on the side. What a dope.
Here in the US my kids school lunches that the school offers are not healthy at all. We are vegetarian and we do not live in an area where it is very popular to be vegetarian. In any given month there are maybe 2 vegetarian options on the school lunch menu and my kids say they are gross, i think one is cheese pizza. My kids end up taking their own lunches to school. A game changer was when we discovered this thermos that keeps hot food hot until they have lunch, so I can pack them soups or pastas. My youngest who was in 3rd grade was questioned by her friends on why she always brings a lunch and when she told them she was vegetarian it was not well received and they thought she was the weird kid. She came home telling us she didn't want to be vegetarian because she wanted to be "normal." So sad. My husband and I have been vegetarian for 15 years now and no one else in our family has decided to give that a try and for the first few years if we had a family gathering where I brought a dish they wouldn't eat it, thinking had something strange in it, so now I don't make anything. Eating out can be difficult but there are a few restaurants now that offer Impossible or veggie burgers. I'm so jealous of your options and that you know other vegetarians.
I wrote my comment before you said that if a school knew there was a vegetarian they would accommodate for it, I had asked once at a parent meeting about vegetarian options and was told that they only make accommodations if a child is allergic to foods.
My mum was super health conscious so would give us epic salad sandwiches, yoghurt, fruit and maybe some rice cakes with peanut butter or rice crackers with hummus....
I prefer this sort of content. 🙂 There are only so many times you want to watch someone in the bathroom doing their hair or putting on make-up!! When they chat and eat they are at their absolute best 👌
I loved the chatty bits. When Alex said " I don't wanna talk too much" I thought no please keep that in the video. It's so nice to have a longer video with real conversations. Thank you 😊
Agreed.
I totally agree

Honestly I am here for the car chats!! I love it. The lunchbox chats are so relatable and funny, so nostalgic
You guys look so great together ❤
This was such a nice vlog, so cool hearing Alex talk and you guys sharing your school anecdotes. Very happy to see you enjoy yourselves and your friends, I hope you'll get to see them more often then!
Green Thai Curry is the best, chicken & prawn. Really good with whole veg, rice & rotti bread. Really good on a cold rainy night 😉
Aw! This brings back memories, used to live there, in Walawe St Pierre, bought my weddings rings just off the Grand Place where the flower show was.
I'm glad you had fun 🥰
Love your vlog of Brussels. You looked beautiful and looked amazing.
What a great trip. Thanks for taking us along. 🤗😘❤️
The Brick Arches are ever so lovely.🤎✨

Glad you had a good few days with a good catch up with friends, looks lovely, somewhere l have not visited xx

No honestly we love the seclusion!

Tomorrowland we could have space though! I was never really in any crowded areas at all!
@@MadeleineOlivia 😅😂
I have added Tomorrowland to my bucket list of music festivals I need to go to. This looks insane!!

Gosh that gave me flashbacks to when I lived in Brussels
Maddie and Alex this was so much fun. It was like my husband and I were riding in the car with you. We are so glad you two had a wonderful time. My mom would put in my lunch box a sandwich, fruit, milk in a thermos and sometimes a cookie.❤
I loved school lunch, we had the best hamburgers, pizzas and chips!

Lovely
My sandwiches were paste. Usually chicken and ham paste. And definitely baby bell and fruit shoots were a must!!
Butter chicken is my favourite, if you've never had it you should definitely give it a go!
Only do what you love, so that way you have no regrets. If you don't agree with something and do it anyway that sets you up for regret.
Beautiful
Wow!!!
Lunch is free up until the end of Yr2 or free to those on lower incomes.
Hey!! Madeleine I really really enjoyed watching your Belgium vlog so so much you inspired me so so much and I wish you reach 600K Subscribers very very soon!✨🌸❤️
Aww thanks so much!
I really enjoyed the chat Great vlog.
Fun outting
Hehe.. We didn't know you had it in you😁😂pre-wedding madness😜like it👌👌

Fun fact, all kids get a free lunch up until (and including) year 2, and then it’s means tested. And they get free milk until they are five.
Cool

Bobby? Wasn't it a Roxy some time back?
It's a nickname/term of endearment. We call our puppy Bubba all the time and his actual name is Merlin 😊
No wayy you were in brussels 😱😱
I think korma is Japanese, and tiki is traditional North Indian.
Breaking a leg before your wedding would surely be a disaster LOL
What about the cats?
Tikka Masala is Scottish.
Where's Roxy ?
As a fellow vegan, I don’t trust any of the fast food outlets. You never know how they cook things 😢
Jamie campaign assisted the government to introduce the sugar tax.
Keeping dirty clothes at home 🏠🏠🏡🏡🏡🏡🏡 Ii ☺️☺️☺️☺️😅☺️ up 🙂🙂🙂

I think you will find that children in their first couple of years get free lunch government not as bad as you make out
Good
