Directed by Academy Award Winner Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok), NEXT GOAL WINS follows the American Samoa soccer team, infamous for their brutal 31-0 FIFA loss in 2001. With the World Cup Qualifiers approaching, the team hires down-on-his-luck, maverick coach Thomas Rongen (Michael Fassbender) hoping he will turn the world’s worst soccer team around in this heartfelt underdog comedy.

I can honestly say that this was the best “feel good” movie I’ve seen all year. It reminded me of how good I felt watching Cool Runnings.

I saw this on a long flight and it was by far the best film I watched on it. I laughed the whole way through and was genuinely impressed by this movie’s heart. I could easily see myself watching this again and again.

Comedia deportiva "inspirada" en hechos reales, tal y como se nos indica al comienzo del film.
Está recibiendo "palos" de gran parte de críticos de cine, creo yo que un poco injustos. Algunos porque la comparan con la excelente "Jo jo Rabbit" y otros porque, sobre todo, no les ha funcionado su comicidad.
Para mi gusto, está bien. Es mejorable, tiene una caída de ritmo e interés en su segundo tramo, bastante falto de chispa y por ello soso, pero en líneas generales es muy simpática.
Por otra parte, también es previsible, de acuerdo, pero como no podía ser de otra manera. Algunos tics del género deportivo de superación personal se repiten, esquemas ya vistos en otras cintas, pero tiene, en mi opinión, elementos personales donde se expone de forma chistosa, amable, la idiosincrasia de un pueblo alejado de las prisas y tensiones diarias del Primer Mundo.
Es entretenida y se sigue sin ningún problema, y los sentimientos expuestos son positivos, como la superación personal, el respeto a los demás, la amistad o poner en solfa el "valor" de la victoria en el combate. Aquí, superarse, ser felices mientras se practica un deporte, es lo importante, no el resultado.
A mí me ha convencido pese a que no es redonda, ni mucho menos, pero Waititi así lo ha querido, sin mayor ambición, sólo hacer pasar un rato ameno al personal. En lo que a mí respecta, objetivo conseguido.

Put down da meth. It's a piece of crap One of the worst movies of the year, courtesy of Tacky Woketitty. Some nice scenery and a handful of laughs at the start, but what starts out funny, ends up NOT funny and trite, because we've ALL scene it before(like fat guy jokes)--and BETTER! instead of concentrating on the main characters's "angre" management (which is why he's offered the gig in the first place), it turns into Trans movement propaganda! As one critic wrote, the direction is point and shoot, and the object of his (Woketitti's) obsession turns out to be some unknown actor playing a transsexual! Note how many reaction shots this character gets. It's disgusting! This and the last "Thor" movie proves that "Jo Jo Rabbit" was a fluke!
I'm glad he's leaving Marvel behind. Ragnarok was great but Love and Thunder was absolute trash. He's at his best when he's making his own films and isn't creatively nailed down by a studio. Hunt for the Wilderpeople and JoJo Rabbit are exceptional movies. Can't wait for this one!

Well Fassbender has the American accent down pat, that and a few nice shots of the countryside, is all it has going for it. This movie confirms the dictum: woke, broke. Instead of dealing with the coach's anger management which is the set of the character, Tacky Woketitti takes a detour into trans ideology. Watch how many point and shoots shot he takes aof the transsexual character! No wonder it was featured on NPR! One of the worst movies of the year along with "Divinity."

Check out clips of Taika’s homegrown movies like Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Should give a better view of the type of movie and heart he puts into them compared to the blockbusters people seem to be shitty about.

One thing to note is how difficult it can be to get film projects in NZ funded, I wouldn’t be surprised if him taking on these big studio projects is a way for him to fund/gain funding for these types of movies that he is know for here. I remember him saying something along the lines of “one for them and one for us” but never know when he’s being serious lol
@@Foonage I am one of the "others" saying his blockbusters are bad. Those aren't even funded in NZ (Thor: Love & Thunder, for one) so we can surmise that giving him more money will ensure he craps the bed when given more. He hasn't earned his place and it's showing. Also, your entire NZ argument is gone w/ one man who STILL made it possible and whose extensive collection of props & wardrobe can be used by ALL of NZ movie makers to this day. The man to dispel your argument? Peter Jackson. Took him a long time, of course! But Taika and others won't do the work (let alone GOOD work) and so they and others cry and talk about how NZ is hard. It's show business, baby! It's rough all over. But it's doable, if you have the talent.
