The game is only thriving in India and Australia and the big three boards( India, Oz, England) have monopolized the game and took complete control of it. If ICC doesn't take proactive steps to proliferate the game beyond boundaries, I don't think we will have real competetion in ICC events like world cup. This short form of cricket in hours is called 'T20', it's done by the global cricket body. But Indian cricket governing body introduced IPL as a franchised version of that T20, in USA sports league style. And that got more success, as most cricket money comes from India.

Best explanation- we brought every friggin best players who are out there and put them on teams and made them clash, and surprisingly, IPL provided more thrill that you wouldn't have had even dreamt of. Plus india has the world's biggest fan army towards anything, which happens to be cricket. As a result of all the friggin international stars playing ipl became a worldwide thing. That's it.

As an ardent cricket fan, I'm seriously concerned about the progress of the game. Arguably the second most popular game (in terms of number of viewers) is confined to just 10 countries and even between those countries we don't have a level playing field. Sri Lanka, Pakistan, South Africa are all joining the ranks of Zimbabwe and Ireland.. The game is only thriving in India and Australia and the big three boards( India, Oz, England) have monopolized the game and took complete control of it. If ICC doesn't take proactive steps to proliferate the game beyond boundaries, I don't think we will have real competetion in ICC events like world cup. We would only have leagues like IPL being played all 365 days.
