I read your book "Born a Crime" several times and was so taken with it...your stories...your memories...your beautiful mother and her determination..your captivating way of relating these experiences...But now, I realize, you ARE NOTan investigative reporter, you are a comedian...you are not in danger of being arrested for divulging damaging government documents. Assange is a hero...it doesn't matter that he is not a perfect man...none of us are. However, he was and is a brave man and deserves our respect and support. Journalists defended whistleblowers and leakers they’ve disagreed with in the past and they can do it again! We need to put public pressure out there though! Contrary to what many of my conservative friends think (that the left all hates Assange because they thought he helped Trump), many left wing journalists are defending and have been defending Assange (most notably what people view as the “far left” media like Chomsky, Greenwald, Goodman). because they know how important this is. Despite whistleblowers generally being respected in the journalist community as you said, the US government’s position toward the has always been harsh as fuck. The US government abused their power so badly to take out Daniel Ellsberg that the judge literally had to throw out the case even though he obviously was biased against Ellsberg! The government has learned to not go quite that far now-or at least not make it so obvious but their goal of crushing whistleblowers and not giving them a voice (rarely has a whistleblower vs the US been able to explain themselves to the jury. Technically such explanations of conscience and motivations are not legal arguments but they are allowed in practically every trial besides whistleblowers v US). We have come a long way when it comes to public support for whistleblowers, but the governments draconian policies remain. These things change by hard work from the people!

This was a dick move to make fun of a man who has done so much in a poor state. I’ll still be watching for the insights on several other issues, after all, it’s not like there are many other well summarized resources on the topic of American politics here. But really, do you expect all journalists you meet to have no flaws? Either journalists have to be right in everything, or they’re wrong. How unrealistically idealistic to expect that. We have imperfect allies, but we need as many ones and as powerful as possible. I’m also angry, but I think it’s likely someone like Trevor would change their mind on the topic with time. How about you try to put your face in the news against the whole word as a mixed immigrant, work hard to prepare news topics about every single day or other day, and tell me you can do it without mistakes. He lost credibility here on the issue of Jullian Assange, but on other issues, he still has his credibility. As if you can expect someone to be an expert in everything. Move on. I liked John Stewart, but he’s not coming back. You have to make do with what you have.
