      @Lumnah Acres ,
      Al , California will get the rains during November , December and January. And then , because of the wildfires and the lack of vegetation , they will have mudslides.
      It's the normal California weather cycle. With the rain , the brush ( mostly tumbleweeds ) will grow profusely , and begin to dry out in March with the fire season starting again in mid-April. From mid-April to mid-November it will be hot with little to no rain.
      The winter rains will come down as snow in the mountains ( mountains that are thousands of feet higher than the New Hampshire mountains ) which will begin to melt in late February/March thus creating flash floods which can take out bridges in the valleys. I personally know of three bridges that were taken out while I lived in southern California.
      None of these things are ever mentioned in the ads that promote California. Most of the photos that you see that show a green California were taken in Feb. / March . Not during the summer as would be normal in New Hampshire.

    I typically use the bucket of the tractor to break the beads on the tire...works super fast and is safe if you have stands under the chassis.

  • @robertpetrowski7027
    @robertpetrowski7027 5 лет назад

    Hi Al, I noticed before you put the tube in the rim of the tractor wheel, there was a dent in the rim. In my many years of automotive/truck repairs, whenever we came across bent rims, we would hammer them out as best as we could. Dents in rims usually causes slow air leaks, which is probably why the slim didn't hold. You can put a soapy solution on those areas and wait for bubbles to confirm there is a leak and after banging it out recheck with air bubble mix. Another trick too, is putting tire glue around the beads on both sides and when you pop the tire back on its bead the glue will help seal the rim. I hope this helps Al..have a great day.

    Hi Al and all 😁 just a hint, before firing the parts cannon (buying a tube), diagnose where the leak is with a water immersion or soap spray and look for bubbles. It may have been something as simple as a dirty bead or loose schraeder valve in the stem.

    Goooooood Morning Al , Gina & Olivia ,
    It sure is hard to beat those studded tires for winter driving. I used studded tires on all four wheels of my Fiero. Just to make sure that I would be able to stop . It's not the go that you need during the winter. It's the ability to stop that you need the most.
    You fixed that tire about the same as I would have. You have probably figured out that it would be very easy to cut a tube when using those screwdrivers. When concerned about
    nuts and bolts vibrating loose , I like to use a product called Locktite. ( it;s available at many places ) It worked very well on my race car. There are two types. Removable and permanent. I don't remember ever using the permanent. A four way lug wrench is pretty handy when removing lug nuts /bolts. It is also sometimes called a speed wrench because you can spin the lug nuts off or on.
    With two people it also works for removing lug nuts that have been installed with an impact wrench. One person to hold it in place and one person to step on it. Of course a breaker bar with a piece of pipe also works if you are by yourself as I usually am . Of course when out on the road you are not likely to have either one of them.

    Al when repairing a tire that has slime in it and has been going thru a field like you have. Take at least half the tire off the rim and clean out any debris and slime from it. Feel the inside of the tire for thorns and nails that can puncture your new tube. Then install the tube and the tire back on the rim. Yes the second nut is for locking the first one on so the stem doesn't get pulled back into the rim. Good luck and hope this helps!

  • @StoneKathryn

    That is great to know. My sister had a garden cart where the tires wouldn't hold pressure. She had to search all over for new ones. Al, Good job with the tube install. The next time you have to tube a tire, it's a good idea to remove completely and check for anything that may cause another leak, like a screw, nail and clean that slime out. When putting the tire back on, put just one bead on the rim, then install the tube, then the second bead. Once the tire and tube are back together, remove valve stem and inflate/deflate the tube a few times to make sure the tube straightens out inside the tire, some people use baby powder to help it slide around. As for the stem nuts, I've seen it done your way, or one nut/washer inside and the same on the outside, and a little blue Loctite on the threads. When you order another tube, get three 18'' tire spoons, best purchase ever. Have you ever thought of getting a set of steel rims for Gina's studded tires for the winter ? Just a thought and thumbs up !

  • @dgmills5351
    @dgmills5351 5 лет назад +4

    When I put tubes in tires I brought the bead out of the rim on one side. The two nuts are to put 1 inside to adjust the depth of the valve stem exposure and the other on the outside of the rim to tighten the stem from twisting. Good change tho Al, the slime does make a mess in the rim. Gina and Olivia, those noodles looked so scrumptious!

    Here is a few tip for putting in a tube. Leave the core out and put air in tube loosen the nut and push the stem in to rim a little do not take the nut off. This will let the air out between the tube and tire. air it back up, you can do this a few times to keep any wrinkles out of the tube. This way the tube will last longer and your tire will not be low the next morning. Should have cleaned the slim out and put just a little talcum power in. Keep it from rusting and getting wrinkles. I know with out taking the tire off you could not do that. Love the videos. I have learn so much I just want to return the favor.

    A little Slime on the bead will help it seal when remounting tire. I bought a tire mounting tool at Harbor Freight, makes breaking bead, and remounting much easier, and with all the tires you have around the farm, seems a reasonable tool to have. You need to completely remove tire from wheel to check for thorns or other sharp pokey things which will get to tube and your partial efforts will be ineffective in the long run.

    one of the valve stem nuts is supposed to stay on the inside of the tire the other on the outside, that will lock the valve stem in the perpendicular position to the wheel and prevents it from being ripped off when being struck by an object when tractor is in motion.

    Try to find an extra set of wheels to keep the winter tires on. That way they can stay mounted and balanced and it only takes 20 minutes to change them out. LKQ pick your part is a good place to look if you have one near you. You can pick up aluminum wheels for @$15 each. That's probably close to what it cost just to mount and balance each tire. When I was a young fellow, before tubeless tires, innertubes came coated with talcum powder. The powder lubed the rubber and made it easier to place. If we got a new bicycle tube, without powder, we would "borrow" some of Mom's bath talc, or the baby brother's baby powder. The hint I read here to partly inflate the tube, let the air out, then fully inflate, is a good one to avoid folds and pinching. I also would like to see paneling or other finish over the insulation in the shop ceiling.

    Al, you should see if you can find an extra set of wheels to mount the winter tires for Gina's car. Then you can switch them over at home. Your truck also. Keep it up.

    Hey Al have thought about putting your snow tires on rims so you can change the tires out yourself. I find that it actually saves me a small amount of money every year!

    The right front tire on my Bx2360 leaked ever since I bought the tractor(years). I had it fixed at tire store. It was the valve stem.

    We always broke the tire over the top of the rim (on one side) & it slips right in with no chance of pinching it enough to cause a leak in tube. Much quicker, too I think. Just a thought.

    The color of the garage door insulation seems to be absorbing the light when you probably want all the light possible in the work area. A lighter color will probably help make it brighter.

    I get a discount on my car insurance if I put my winter tires on by early November. I lived next door to an older Italian couple and they taught me how to make noodles among other goodies. She dried the pasta over the back of a chair on a clean tea towel. Is Gina's pioneer cookbook still being printed. A shot of the cover would be appreciated. Have a wonderful Monday!

    Great video. Glad you could change that tire easily. I was wondering about the slime too . The noodle making looked fun and then yummy. Lots of family goodness togetherness. 😺💞🎃

    Do you have a place that does foam fill? No more leaks plus you gain some extra weight for stability.

    After years of repairing mower, motorcycle, 4x4 truck, tractor and car tires, Ive learned a few tricks. Sprinkle baby powder on the new tube before installing. Also add just a little air to the tube before installing to reduce the chances of pinching the tube. Use Windex for bead lube. Ive learned, if youre struggling with the tire/tube, youre doing something wrong. Tire repair is like a Zen thing.

    If I can offer a suggestion with the snow coming and all, I'd turn off the auto chicken door timer and open it myself. Just to make sure the rails can handle the snow and ice without damaging the unit. Does it have an over ride I wonder if the door is stuck? I get 16 feet of snow per winter here so it occupies a lot of my mind lol. I would have installed the rails for the door on the inside, with the string inside too. I love that door but I don't think it would work here unless I gave the chickens wee shovels, the door would open in the morning and the chickens would be faced with a wall of snow. I'm really enjoying your videos, I look forward to 7:30 am now!

    Tire Slime works only when the hole is in the tread pattern. If the leak is at the rim edge or in the sidewall you need to tube it. Tire slime will rinse out with water.
