It happened to me on 1.4.3. I was doing the pillars for “fun” and my zenith somehow did around a quarter of the health bar of one of them before the shield went up. It might have been because the pillar just spawned in and there were a couple of frames where the shield wasn’t up. I have no idea how this happened though
Yeah, happened to me while playing summoner calamity my summon killed the pillar offscreen without the shield ever spawning on top of it. It wouldn't be possible to do just with a fallen star sadly :(
The pillar spawned on lunatic cultist and the same thing happened to me while I was swinging my zenith on the nebula pillar, seems to be a zenith thing but it never happened with any other pillar
I made a video on a weird glitch I found with the pillars in 1.4.3 or an earlier version of 1.4. My friend and I were fighting the old ones army and all of the sudden one of the pillars died. I somewhat figured out what happened. I was shooting where the pillar was and it ended up damaging the pillar even with the shield. I believe it only happens on multiplayer worlds when you do not get near the pillars where they don’t move on the map. Edit: I called the video Terraria Pillarless glitch
So similar to how you can create a helevator by having a friend who has only been on the surface place down rope, it will cut through obsidian because that player hasn't loaded the blocks
Could be a really simple explanation: the red health bar is behind the blue shield bar and in none of your recorded examples did you take down a portion of the shield bar so you could see if the health bar was taking damage. There is nothing about any of this that says the shield bar should be reduced if the health bar behind it is reduced.
Yeah I thought this would be the first thing everyone would try Edit: yeah this doesn’t work. I took down the shield to around 35/50 and waited for stars to hit it, the pillar did not take any damage.
If that was the case, the pilar should have been damaged (if not destroyed) when gungnir took down the pillar's shield in the video because a lot of stars must have directly hit the pillar in the process.
My speculation is that the star hits at around the time that the small orbs that do damage to the shield and cause some sort of bug resulting in unintended damage. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense though because player weapons don't deal damage when the orbs touch the pilar's shield, so maybe they are labelled as some sort of "natural" damage. This is just the only idea I can come up with for such a bug.
@@taro-1337 yep, seen this happen with zenith, since it attacks so fast, it's possible to hit a pillar before the shield appears. unlikely though, and definitely not intended. it also happens with summons that target shit without you, but it's less likely than the zenith one.
That was my thought, I figured he might at least check but I think it would take too long to kill 50 enemies. (Unlike taking too long to wait for falling stars)
Could it be that the pillars gain there shield once the player is in range of the pillar. But the pillar may actually be there when the player is out of range as well, and during that time the star could potentially fall on the pillar. I have no idea if this is the case, but seems possible.
For the people saying "what if the enemy bar is covering the pillar bar?" I ask wouldn't we still see the damage ticks over the pillar when the star "hits" it?
happens all the time like I would be in my ranger world getting fragments to fight moon lord and I would randomly shoot with chlorophyte bullets while the pillar was spawning and boom health lowered while shield is up (1.3.4)
I think I know what causes this In the previous update of treeria the pillar will spawn before the shield, so if you stand in the right place you can do the pillars without killing, it has helped me with solar too many times
I think when the pillars spawn they spawn without shield and after few frames the shield itself spawn, maybe it spawned when the start has already "touched it" and then the shield came on
"A fallen Star rarely hits anything" And then there is me. I got saved from Calamity Death Mode Eye of Cthulhu due to it being hit by a fallen star.. twice...
same happened to me yesterday. No hints of sounds or something, but it happened. A little chunk of health was missing while the shield was active. But i cant remember what caused it, maybe a star or it was a simple bug
I've only encountered 2 glitches and neither of them involve stars. the first was an I wanna say 1.3 or early 1.4 glitch that would speed everything up for the player. Atk speed, spawn rates, healing, anything except in game time. the other isn't as cool but with ice blocks from the ice rod, it's possible to move through a vertical 1 block gap. this one is able to be done is the latest version.
once i was fighting skeletron back on the old console version of the game and a fallen star came along and killed his arm, i still died but it was such an extraordinary sight to see
This gave me a playthrough idea: beating Terraria with only fallen stars (use star cannon or super star shooter if necessary, such as for WOF or mech bosses respectively.)
this has happened to me before. I was playing on a 1.4.3 with my friends and we were fighting the nebula pillar and it lost some of its core hp and the shield was down I little.
theoretically you could beat any boss that doesn't despawn this way (except for moon lord because he regens) so empress of light fallen stars only when
This feels like the longest summoner kill possible whilst being absolutely manageable. Btw, I think the 1.4.3 bug could work on multiplayer but am not sure.
I wonder if the star hit dmg happens only out of view Stars still go around the world so, what if stars do dmg out side of view Technically shields only show up when player is near so this might be possibility, it should be possible but not sure
I believe you need to be far enough away from the pillar for the shield to despawn, then the fallen stars might do damage. Either way, great video gungbert. also NO WAY
Just noting, but max speed with journey mode makes stars pop before they land sometimes. Relatedly, there is a very specific time of night that, if you pause time at it, it endlessly causes fallen stars to spawn
I'm pretty sure falling stars dealing damage to bosses was patched out long before moonlord was added. Now, a falling star will just pass through bosses. Which makes it kind of strange that this actually works once the shields go down. Maybe I'm just misremembering, and instead they just reduced the damage by a ton (so you can't have a falling star instakill skeletron).
I've seen damage behind the shield in 1.3, I never saw a star hit it but it was already damaged when I got there and it was daytime. I think they just spawned like that but it wasn't always the same amount each time. I'm on PC btw
my guess it's that there are different type of falling stars, in one of the seeds falling stars specifically target and spawn on top of you, and quite regularly, also they have a red aura instead of the blu one
i was playing calamity yesterday and i accidentally summoned lunatic cultist and didnt feel like killing the pillars and the solar one died on its own and i was very confused up until now
Did you know, in the monster hunter series, there is a monster called Deviljho, known for eating any other monster it comes across. Also in monster hunter, is a mechanic where building up cutting damage on monster tails will eventually sever them. These features compound into Deviljho eating his own tail once severed, a truly grisly sight to behold.
The best guess I have is that the way the shield gives invincibility, which is by doing it every tick, might have bugged in a way because of the game possibly have being too slow to run the invincibility at its normal 60 TPS, thus letting the fallen star or other objects that deal damage to pillars do damage when the shield is still on. Just a guess tho idk
I’m pretty sure the fallen stars were damaging the pillar, it’s just that the 1st health bar (the enemy one) was covering the actual pillars healthbar up so maybe you could’ve verified it by killing a few enemies after it hits the pillar
