Most unrealistic part is John larroquette sits up. I don't think a patient that's been in a coma for 10 years has any muscle strength to do that sort of thing.
Exactly what I’m thinking
In real life you are absolutely right but on TV aka make believe land anything is possible 😂😂
They don't they are effectively paralysed for the rest of their lives. You have seven years max before you are paralysed permanently.
Considering the thing that woke him up is like meth and cocaine in a liquid form he csn probly sit up
I was in one for only 9 days and had issues the first day or so with leg strength. I definitely agree.
10 years in a coma and he was able to lift his head up and speak normally. Mkay
There's no way this guy just wakes up like he woke up from an hour nap. Ur right

It's a show dude. Relax 🤣🤣🤣
So no atrophy? I just got out of a brace that's been around & supporting my fractured neck forEVER. I feel like a bobblehead-it's work 2 hold my head up! I've also had casts on my lower legs 4 times, wrists 3 times, back twice and been in a wheelchair once-all at different times for broken bones. Each time my limbs lost muscle. All were 6 month & 3 month stints. Imagine 10 years!
@@tamahawk_1111 lol I lose muscle mass just from not working out for a month. And I have an active job and eat like a hog.
Man hasn't used his vocal chords in a decade but just casually talks with ease.
Dud was hungry for steak for a decade
You aren’t you when you’re hungry
Not to mention all the fat he still had and the muscle strength as well
@@alimohsin496 He probably needed a Snickers.
He snored 10 years straight
My son was in a coma for about a week from Encephalitis. He was paralyzed on his left side from the brain swelling. They removed a portion of his skull. A most horrific experience. A week later he was up and literally running down the halls. I was never more thankful to have to say, "slow down a bit son" and he was ravenously hungry. The Docs wanted to put in a feeding tube and I said no, he's a teenage boy, just give him food lol. We are so beyond lucky he survived and is back to pretty much normal. I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone. He doesn't remember anything from his time being in a coma. Thankful for that.
When he sees the bill for those ten years in a hospital bed, he'll wish he was back in that coma.

Lol
😅😅😅
🤣
That would put their minds in a tizzy….like, “Da phuq just happened?”
and that would be me.
My son's doctor showed me the brain scan of my son who was in a coma. His scan shwed very little brain activity. I knew he was gone when I gave him CPR at home. The 911 team could not get his heart revived for a very long time which of course means brain damage. We kept him alive for a week while they got everything going for him to donate his organs. My daughter put out a message on facebook for his friends to come and say goodbye. It was an amazing thing to see everyone come to see him. But it was still very sad for us. I am just glad that many people were able to continue living and working for their kids because they got something from our son that allowed them to keep living.
That's REAL. This was HOLLYWOOD.
I hope it gives you some peace knowing how many people he helped, and how they would be so grateful. I am so sorry you had to lose him though.
@@francus7227 what point were you trying to make with this obtuse and irrelevant comment?
Bruh I didn't come to the comment section to cry
What does that have to do with this
John Larroquette really knows how to make an entrance into a scene.
I spent a week in a coma once from pneumonia. I can assure you that after 10 years in a coma he wouldn’t be able to lift his head or that fat
or *be that fat
....whats it like?
How did pneumonia put you in a coma? I’ve had it like 8 times and never heard of that 😨
@@armchairphilosopher6880 also interested in this…
I would like to know too! Do you dream or remember anything? Can you hear as you’re coming around? I fainted once because of myocarditis and it was scary being able to hear people around me but being unable to move or do anything. I wondered if it was like that initially before you’re fully awake again?
I was in a coma for about a month in the ICU and when I woke up I had to pull out the tubes from my nose and mouth so I could call a nurse at 1:00am because I needed help to get up to use the bathroom. I felt almost paralyzed even though I wasn’t. I had no idea what happened to me and why the nurse went nuts when she saw what I had done. I was very thirsty and not at all hungry when I awoke.
Oh it is so fucking painful, how did you even manage to do it yourself???
I'm an ICU nurse. People on a ventilator in medicated comas 100% always want water. Of the 100+ patients I've seen come out of a medicated coma, not a single one has asked for a steak, but the water is the best thing they've ever had.
You sound as stubborn and pain tolerant as my husband. He pulled put 2 IVS after waking up from Anesthesia.
For two different surgeries
@@halleyangel1706The "tubes" they pulled out were nasal gastrial tubes used for feeding and decompression of the stomach. The one in her mouth was an endotracheal tube connected to a ventilator that was breathing for her because she was unable to do so. When you are intubated you are given powerful sedatives that hinder your brains ability to gain consciousness and think clearly. If you've ever been up for 36+hours or in a drunken stupor waking up from these medications is worse. Especially if they woke up because they weren't getting enough sedation, but they were still getting them. Everyone reacts differently coming out, but it's not just "being stubborn" and you'd do well to keep quiet about things you obviously don't understand.
"The nurse went nuts." Uh yeah, you really shouldn't extubate yourself.
I was in an induced coma for 2 weeks on a ventilator. When I came too I couldn't even lift my arms and trying to raise my head felt like someone had a weight holding me down. I can't imagine being in a coma for 10ths and suddenly coming too so easily and lucidly. And I remember not being hungry at all, just really, really thirsty. But, I love House so I'm willing to overlook the inaccuracy of a coma patient coming out of his coma so easily and being able to just sit up with no help. Because lets just face it, we all wish that a Dr. Like Dr. House really existed.
The adrenaline they gave him would allow for movement he wouldn't otherwise be able to do
also i assume it’s mainly for plot reasons
@@marywilley4136 no, it wouldn't. if it did it would have that effect for more coma patients than this fictional character, and the effects would wear off as soon as the adrenaline did, rather than continuing as long as the plot requires.
@scottmatheson3346 Are u a doctor? I was waiting for ur ending sentence to indicate.
Hello, scenes like this normally only can exist when the patient is put on NMES, neuro muscular electrical stimulation. So basically contracting his muscles with a machine, this is definitly used on critical or long term patients. But not on patients who aren't in for that long.
That you can't move after 2 weeks is pretty normal, the only possible reason for him being able to move is NMES. I have personally never seen it being used since I don't see long term coma patients.
Could be factually not 100% correct like I said, my explanation would be NMES, but while in my head it makes sense, I don't know if it really works just like that.
The "Gosh, I could really go for a steak" had me laughing 😂
Plot twist: he woke up because of the lady screaming and not the injection.
Plot twist. Someone from a long term coma can't move or talk let alone demand a steak.

I saw this situation happen right here in Chattanooga. A policeman from Signal Mountain was ambushed and shot. He spent years in a coma. He woke up one day and remembered everything including his boys and wife. His boys were older now. They all came together and they had a chance to hear dad say I love you. He slipped back into the coma as quickly as he came out and died a few days later. His family at least got to say goodbye. One of the boys became a police officer. I’ll remember this story till my dying day.

It a one hour drama, not a documentary...
Stephen King wrote that one book about comas and waking up and researched it quite thoroughly his muscles and tendons and ligaments would have been all atrophied.
The dead zone! I knew it's come back to me.
Cuddy was so pissed that she walked in through the door without opening it
I had a nurse tell me once that he used to work at the area where people in coma stay.
He told me that they would just hope that nobody who stayed there for a long time woke up because every single time they would die 1-2 days later, they knew that once the person suddenly got better they never survived
Once his mother got into a accident and was placed there with him. About 1-2 years later she suddenly woke up during his shift and sat down on the bed, he broke down crying. His mother died the next day and he asked to be relocated because he couldn't stay there anymore
That
So whats the point of keeping them "alive" in a coma then? I always thought once you wake up you are fine.
Omg! Why do they die?
@@sirweebs2914 it is a hospitals duty to give a patient the treatment they need for as long as possible, a doctor will generally give a prognosis after a certain amount of time on whether the patient will survive or not at which point it is then the decision of the family to either pull the plug or in most cases keep treatment going where they hope for a miracle.

For me, I wiped on a motorcycle, my head hit and slid along the shoulder of a highway, helmet saved my life, my bike and I rolled down an embankment 20 ft, on Nov. 24th, day before Thanksgiving. I lay there a couple hours, in the 30° dark and cold. A driver on the highway saw something, stopped and checked it out (an act of God, I'm sure), called 911, then 8 days later I woke up in a hospital room, like waking up from a sleep, right cheek all a big scab, about the size of my hand, shoulders pulled back in a harness, my collarbone was broke in 2 places. I was still in school, 3 of my teachers came to see me in the hospital. One teacher had the whole class sign a card and sent it to me. I was in intensive care next 6 days. Seemed like I had been in an experiment, really. They kept doing tests on me, cognitive tests, wouldn't tell me what for. Every morning the cards would arrive, 20-30. Think everyone I knew sent me a get well card. Another person in my class had a ski accident a couple months later, he was in a coma about as long as I was, we ran into each other 2 yrs afterwards, and it was the same exact story happened to him in the hospital, we were finishing each other's sentences, it was exactly the same. It’s funny he mentioned the movie awakenings! In the movie, once all the patients wake up after being administered L-DOPA, a patient exclaims he wants a steak and mashed potatoes. What’s even MORE interesting, is that the movie is actually a fictionalized re-telling of Oliver Sack’s book “Awakenings”, which was a compilation of accounts of each patient who suffered Encephalitis Lethargica and was administered L-DOPA. In the book, a lady was given L-DOPA not so much to test out the drug, but to hopefully save her life as it was getting increasingly difficult to feed her. When she woke up, she demanded a well done steak with sides, and finished it all. It’s been a while since I read it, but I believe she was kept on the drug, while other patients were taken off when it stopped working or presented more negative side effects than what was worth. I recommend reading the book or listening to the This Podcast Will Kill You episode on Encephalitis Lethargica.
- House: I can cure this patient
- Cuddy: I'm gonna try to stop you and fail
