Why Is Relaxers A Thing?! We Should Move Away From Them!

  • After 13 years of being natural, she received a relaxer for hair manageability, and she regrets it!
I told the client she didn't even need it; it's the products that will help with manageability.
If you're going to get a relaxer, at least use Twelve12 products because they're mildly acidic and will reduce breakage while increasing moisture retention. As you can see, the client's hair is vibrant after the shampoo and conditioner process.

I’ve been natural and relaxed, and I’m currently relaxed. My hair is at the middle of my back and relatively healthy. I don’t relax too often or leave the relaxer in for long when I do, but I get the results that keep my hair manageable through heat, humidity and regular exercise. Proper hair care is a must!

Does 12/12 have a product that can relax hair better than lye? I don’t want to have to pull thru natural hair every day of the week.

    You've done a great job.
I am relaxed. And how I keep my hair. I do wash my hair every 2 weeks. I deep condition for 20 minutes. Under my hood dryer. I keep my scalp and throughout my hair hydrated. And moisturized I get trimmed once a year and I dust. My ends also once a year. My hair is over my shoulders. Past my bra strap. So it's basically knowledge how to take care of your hair whether you are relaxed or natural.❤

Yay on relaxer. I've never used these products before (I plan on looking into it) but I've always been very mindful of the high quality products I do use and stay consistent with my regimen. Because of that I've never experienced breakage like that from my relaxer. One time I did try to go natural and it was the largest hair setback I've ever had in my life. Never again. Relaxers are for some and just aren't for others.

It’s a Yay for me. I was relaxed for awhile, then I decided to go natural for about 5 years . I just love the great hair days with relaxers. 12twelve works wonders both ways ! In fact I need to put in an order this week. ❤

I just relaxed my hair after years of being natura. I was tired of dealing with my with my natural texture and just wanted a completely different look. I cut it bob length and don’t regret it one bit.

Hello, your products have great results and I love that but I'm allergic to different ingredients. I wish I could use them. I'll stick to relaxers❤

For me, only with Twelve 12 products, it's a yay. I have always been relaxed and there have been challenges. I have not had too bad of a time with them but I don't use any heat or color. I am a natural gray now. I know quite a few "naturals" my age that are okay with unnatural color though but I get it. Now as far as the cancer thing in relaxers, that's a maybe for me. I would rather see black women using "natural" or even an external means of birth control instead of pills and injections and "natural" intoxicants like a book or a walk instead of alcohol or weed. Some put these known carcinogens in their bodies every day, not just once every 2 months for a few minutes and I am not saying relaxers are healthy but should they be crucified? I don't know. We have to look at all products that are marketed to us as safe but are truly dangerous. These are all good discussions and we are all trying. I do love this feeling of pride and unity and the emerging reclamation of freedom and OMG the styles, I am in awe! Thank you twelve 12 for this video and your products and commitment to our health. Love you!

@rosemarydreams Thx for your post specifically to your natural gray hair which I join you in that choice. I have done relaxed, heat and cellophane color and 10+ yrs ago let it go and went natural. However while doing that I turned to quick weaves and sew-ins due to sweating so much, workouts, hormonal and not skilled in doing my own hair. My stylist is a maintenance stylist so my hair was 14" long. As my hair began to grow by the time Covid-19 hit I let go of the weaves from 2020-2024. My gray is now full on is healthy and recently had it cut to get rid of the weak split ends. Now trying to grow it back with natural care. I have 3c high porosity hair and of late trying to maintain with twists at nite and no tying up just use satin pillow. My edges are not the best. But relaxers no more for me. I just wish that products and hair stylist would be more informational about natural gray hair maintenance care.❤
