    I spear commercially in FL and for recreation in NC. There's a lot of bulls where I'm at in FL and tigers in NC. In my experience there's nothing to worry about when they're just circling slowly. It's when they start moving quick and making sudden turns like that sandbar was doing at the end that it gets sketchy. First thing I do on most dives is kill a couple small fish and chum the water. Sharks bring cobia and they're always a nice addition to the haul

    • @danmacmahon3973

    Hey what type of power head do you use and where can I buy some at

  • @zacharyemmanouil6738
    @zacharyemmanouil6738 4 года назад +1

    Dan, I will be purchasing some 316 stainless pipes to use as PHs like you use. I remember you use 7.62x54r rounds. I intend on using a .308 winchester, which is very similar, but has a little more chamber pressure. Just wanted to ask you what is the wall thickness of your PHs? I am thinking that 1/4" wall thickness is too thick and thus too heavy. Is 1/8" enough? Thank you Dan!

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  4 года назад +1

      Zachary, I've never used SS , mainly because of it's weight and how hard it is to machine. If those two factors aren't an issue for you, then I'm sure it will work fine. I'd suggest trying a .223 model. I know Spear Crafters makes one. See if it's what you're looking for.Again, the main issue with using a big cartridge in a SS PH is the size and weight. The .223's have plenty of knock down power and are much smaller and lighter. Best, Dan

    • @zacharyemmanouil6738
      @zacharyemmanouil6738 4 года назад

      Dan, I was thinking that SS should be ideal because of saltwater use. I also thought that since you are using the 7.62, then I could use the .308 as it is virtually identical in size and I have some of that ammo. I was just curious as to how thick the walls are on your PHs. But I will certainly give Spear Masters a call tomorrow. By the way, thank you very much for your insight. I'm an attorney. If I can be of help to you (and if it is within my area of practice), then I'd like to return the favor. If you ever have a legal question, just let me know. You can email me at ze@DiverseFirm.com. Love the upload showing off some shallow spots just as somethin a little different. Quick question with the sharks, how many times have you been pestered by them to where you had to really worry and actually use that power head on the spear? I’d imagine some types of shark raise more concern than others when they show up, everyone knows bulls are considered aggressive. But from your comment in the video it sounds like you know first hand that they are. Good luck to ya man and hope you always stay safe out there in the wild open blue.

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  4 года назад +20

      Thanks Matt, glad you're enjoying the videos. I try really hard not to injure sharks. With the exception of Bulls, I will usually hit them with the gun and that usually drives them off. There's def some times that it's apparent that nothing is going to make it change it's mind and your safety is really imperiled. If I can leave and end it I will, but leaving and being in the column can expose you to attacks from every angle. If it's bad on the bottom, it's likely much much worse in the column. If a SandBar or Dusky hits you, most likely you'll survive it. If a big Bull clamps down then most likely you won't. Best, Dan
