Just watched the Father Ted series for the first time. I'm American, raised Catholic, and I found it hilarious. Few shows make me laugh out loud, but this one did. RIP Dermot.
@@bighands69 sure, it's aimed mostly at Catholics. It may have aired on Channel 4, but it's humour was very Irish. One thing you have to know about us is that we love nothing more than making fun of ourselves.

I started the first half of Father Ted not knowing about this tragedy, and knew about it for the second half. And just today I also found out that Father Jack died as well. RIP both.
What a great lad Dermot was,his only downfall was that he worked himself too hard..he was a perfectionist. His mission in life was to make people laugh..and he didn't fail..we miss you Dermot x

Incredible when you think when you look at this that he was such an icon not just in Ireland but in Britain and that Father Ted had only been on for 3 years. Usually when they talk about someone being a comic legend they've been around for around 15 years.
Britain knew nothing about this man. He had this strange grey hair, even though he wasn't very old. He kicked arse (Namely that of Bishop Brennan.). Then, as quickly as he arrived out of nowhere, he sadly went away forever.
Just finished watching the final episode of Father Ted for the umpteenth time. I am unable to fully enjoy that episode knowing that just hours later Dermot was gone. The ending is very poignant and always a brings a tear to my eye. 45 is no age to go. RIP Mr Morgan and thanks for the laughs x
My dad was only a few years older than me when it happened. He says Morgan was only getting started. He'd be 69 today if he was still around, imagine what he could've come out with in the 23 years since...
I remember hearing about Morgans death when I was a young kid, but I never truly appreciated his work until I started watching Father Ted about 5 years ago when I was 14, he was a truly gifted and funny man, to this day one of the worst losses to hit Entertainment
I discovered Father Ted a year ago; it was never released in France. I was sad to learn about Dermot Morgan's passing away. I guess "only the good die young".
I show Father Ted to whoever is willing to watch it. Not many people in America know about it, but every now and then I find somebody who is already a fan of the show and it's like a gateway to an instant friendship. God bless Dermot, Ardal, Frank, and Pauline for such tremendous comedy.

Interesting they were advertising a 4th series coming up as they filmed the finale a few days before and even the writers said they were stopping at 3 series in the documentary. Must have been a late decision not to do another.
this man has touched everyones hearts and im 24 and had a crush on this man father ted is what i remember him for shame he died before giving up the collor but may he rest in peace the star that shines bright at night sleep well and make everyone in heaven laugh so much we will all see u again and we can chat about old times . I'm the only 1 in my family who loves Father ted and always love to sit down with a cuppa and relax and just think that he is watching over his fans enjoying the work that he created father we miss u and we still love u . saying a prayer for u and ur family xxxxxxxxxxx

I was 14 in 1998 and a huge Father Ted fan. I remember my Mom coming into my bedroom to tell me he had died. I was devastated.

Saw Dermot Morgan back in the late 70s/ early 80s as a comedy standup priest (Father Trendy) in Moors Hotel (Island rooms) Cork city. Happy days .
