- Saturn is not a name you hear much in the automotive world since they shut down years back, but even more rare is hearing about a street legal 500hp Saturn powered GoKart! Fortunately for us, we were able to have one of our first encounters with a DF Goblin kit car in person at Street Car Takeover in Atlanta, Georgia. Even more fortunately for us, we knew the owner as we’ve previously featured him on the channel before with his Saturn Ion Redline (and now you know why we bring up Saturn instead of the typical Cobalt platform for the DF Goblin application). That should also help identify why it’s no surprise to see this tiny 4 cylinder cranking out a familiar 500hp, however the catch here is that this kit car weighs just 1600lbs (that’s WITH the driver)! In addition to catching this zippy GoKart on it’s maiden voyage to the drag strip, we were able to sneak a ride in out on the highway (a very very very very windy ride). Cavalier Thompson no you don’t 😂 seems like every week theirs a new problem. Cv axles, clutch, spark plugs, injectors clogging up, trans mount snapping.

I agreed the fastest rwd 4 cyl car at one point was (or is) powered by a ecotec engine and also the fastest IHRA pro fwd cars were GM ecotec powered.
@@brutallyhonestmf5578 pretty sure the guys from Brazil this weekend at WCF re set the 4cyl record with a chevy 4 cylinder. Dont know for sure what the platform was I know the car was a pro mod cobalt or cruze, but that car went 6.1 @ 230ish I think (unsure on the mph). Almost fast enough to race the 3-4000hp v8 and inline 6 outlaw cars that where in the 5.6-6.0 range doing 220-250mph. Insane.

I thought it was a ariel atom at first glance then I was shocked to see this thing with a saturn redline engine🤯 that thing hauls the mail for sure!
there are a couple shops selling kits (or they will build it for you for way more) to swap these ecotecs into an open wheel chassis just like this for less than $30k, and like iirc a lil less than $20k for the base model NA car that borrows hella from the donor car including suspension.
If getting into this I would just go base model and build it up suspension/drivetrain wise as I added power mods to keep it a balanced track machine, first and foremost.

theyre really not that expensive if you get a cobalt and use it as a parts car.

Cool beans!! I just bought a really clean 2007 Saturn Sky Redline (poor mans baby corvette) with only 32k on it and so far I've just done a HF cat, modified the stock airbox to turn it into a CAI with a HF K&N filter and a body brace kit. Next will be solid charge pipes to help the little K04 turbo keep boost past 5,500 rpm and a Meth kit then a tune with HP tuners. should be able to get it to at least 350-400 WHP on stock internals.

The required power to overcome air resistance rises very quickly after around 160mph. As an example, A BMW 8 series requires 152hp at the wheels to overcome air resistance @140mph. At 160mph it requires 220hp, @200mph it needs 409hp and for 220mph it needs 537hp just to overcome the air resistance and that is for a reasonably aerodynamic car. Things look much worse when you are pushing an open cage. For any drag car pushing speeds over 160mph, aerodynamics needs to be a strong consideration to be competitive.

Looks like the Goblin kit that DF Kit Cars sells. They sell them complete turn key with a Chevy Cobalt motor and and the turbo and they are good for like 400hp and are crazy quick.

@@Skizzy7777 a DF Goblin frame is built in Texas, assembled by the owner, and has a owner modified Pontiac/Chevy LSJ engine. Leroy is made in Michigan?, assembled by Chevrolet, and has a bought Texas Speed engine. They aren't very different, so compare away!

Looks similar to a Ariel Atom! They say they are like a rocket. I know they have v8 in them but not sure what type. Top Gear did a show on one and Jeremy Clarkson said it was one of the fastest thing he had ever driven. 😊

Your crazy.. Can take a 20 year old whiteblock 2.3 5 cyl put a $1000 turbo and $1000 in supporting fuel upgrades and make 500 wheel.. On a stock motor!!
Or a mk7 is20 with stage 2+ makes close to 400 wheel with crazy power delivery. 12 second car on tune and exhaust.
