Great video, thank you a lot! Also for Lydian you could have mentioned an "Eight Days A Week" chord progression: I - II - IV - I
I guess I shouldn't be surprised Locrian wasn't covered, given how notoriously unstable it's been described to be. However, as someone who wrote & uploaded a piece in Locrian, I've found that a i7(b5) - bvii7 works pretty well for the piece I made.

Merci for this, even though it's out of my pay grade.
I'm dipping my big toe in for modes, as I play my major and minor scales, I play on each degree of the scale if I have the time. I'm not yet playing the chords of the modes, but that'll be the next step. I don't have my ear trained well enough to recognize consistently what the sounds are, so I don't want to overwhelm the brain. No music theory for 65 years and then jumping onto the piano has been a great journey, but I see the importance of building a good foundation first.

If you are going to use the bVII chord in the Dorian mode, it's often best to add the major 7th extension to that chord. This can reduce the risk of losing the Dorian sound and unintentionally replacing it with its relative Ionian sound. Why? Because if you look at the bVII chord in Dorian, you'll see it's the Ionian chord. *BUT* the major 7th note of that chord is also the same note that defines the Dorian mode, which is the natural 6. Great video

Thanks! I usually keep progressions short to make them easier to fit on screen and to cover more per video. But I am considering doing some videos about a single progression each that would work well with longer progressions.

beginner here, could you tell me if i am getting it wrong please ?
Example : lydian A B A B
does that imply the key is E major/ A lydian ? (E F'G'ABC'D'E) and we are playing 4 - 5 - 4 -5

You could be in A Lydian playing I - II, or in E major playing IV - V. Without some more information to determine the key, such as other chords that feature or what notes the melody is using, I would say this is A Lydian because it uses the I chord.
